Hello, and welcome to my blog! You can call me Jess, Sass, Sasslett, whatever you'd like. I play FFXIV with my husband and I like to share my writing and gposes of our WoLs! I reblog a lot and don't tag but I also only post about XIV and the occasional random thing that resonates with me. And above all else, I'm here to have a good time, and I hope you are, too.

Varrus Varlineau

The Warrior of Light, an Ishgardian-born Elezen who fled to Gridania with what remained of his family after Nidhogg destroyed his hometown (yes, that family). Being the peaceful, charming, kind-hearted soul that he is, he couldn't help but get himself dragged into some Ascian/Primal/Scion bs, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Jess Varlineau

An orphaned Highlander woman, Jess grew up in the south Shroud working as a barmaid until a stupid, handsome Elezen strode through her doors and convinced her to move to Gridania and take up the lance. She'd always dreamed of adventure, but little did she know exactly what sorts of shenanigans her new best friend was about to drag her into.

I know I'm not super active here anymore but I've been busy writing and posting on ao3 and thought I'd share!

Firstly, and as always, is my FFXIV canon rewrite longfic, With You Through It All, in which I reimagine the MSQ with the addition of a second Warrior of Light. Romance, smut, drama, loss, hope and everything else the MSQ has to offer. The story as posted is in early EW, in my drafts I've just started DT, and I'm also slowly rewriting the oldest chapters (the rewrite is on HW atm).

Next, I've got a FFXIV Vampire AU, Absolution, in which Jess and Varrus are childhood friends who are tragically separated when Varrus passes away... only for him to show once more several years later. Yet not all is as it seems (yeah, you can guess the twist), and he and Jess become embroiled in a plot for his life. Vampires, romance, smut, biting, angst, Estinien as an unwitting third wheel butting heads with Ysayle and so much more fun.

A very self indulgent work, I've got Fairytale of Mine, a work set in an original fantasy setting in which Jess is a princess and Varrus her valiant knight, and the two have to navigate their burgeoning relationship while knowing their roles in life are destined to keep them apart. This one is entirely romance, smut and fluff, and an excuse for me to write balls and corsets and sword fighting and tournaments and all that fun high fantasy stuff.

And, finally, of the ones I'm actively posting is my newest "original" work, Before the Dawn. This story sees Jess awaking in a forest having lost her memories, found by Varrus, a shadow hunter - a mercenary specialized in combating shadowkin, mysterious beasts that plague the land, and she discovers that the home she remembers was supposedly lost eons ago. Varrus takes her in and she joins him in his hunting as she waits for her memories to return - and yet, the two soon discover her loss of memory and the shadowkin blight may be more related than they ever could have thought... This one is, of course, full of romance and smut and action and adventure, plenty of combat, prophecies and other fun stuff. And if you recognize the game I "borrowed" the story beats from... no you don't.

I've got other works in the drafts with these two idiots - regency, dragon riding, time travel, college, pirates and many others, and I'm making an active effort to actually post them. Basically any plot I can throw my OCs into, I will lol.

Lastly, I just want to say... If there's a writer out there you look up to or enjoy, please, please say something. It's dire out there for us right now - the majority of comments I've gotten in the past four years have been scam bots, and the ones that are real I still remember and cherish every day. Writers are lonely, and you never know when one bookmark, one kudos, one comment can be the difference between someone finishing a WIP and giving up entirely. Share in the passion of your peers and tell people when you like what they do!

My old person take today is that I feel like people have normalized being on your phone every single moment including when you're spending "quality" time with others so much that they're defensive if someone isn't ok with it. Yes, you have a problematic relationship with your phone and social media if you physically cannot put it down for a couple of hours to like, have dinner with your friends. It's a show of respect for other people's time and energy as well as important to be present and connect with people around you. Your parents who told you no phone at the table were right for that one.

and it was there upon the final steps of faith of the final conflict that would be between us. were i one who held onto such ideals, would i have held onto the belief you would make it? i know not. i only know the mutual affection for alphinaud in which we both shared was the linchpin that sealed the paths we walked together during and after, and i know that it was his faith i fought for more than anything at the time.
