An embarrassment to the league. They forgot what *actually* got Caitlin Clark all this media attention was a "rivalry" between her and Angel (you know not a real one like a court one lol). Caitlin was phenomenal her whole college career but didn't become a big name until her junior year, so it wasn't her skill alone. It was in large part to controversy because of how the media spoke on her on court behavior vs. how they spoke on Angel's... that was a HUGE story last year. It was ALL over Twitter. That was when she really became a known figure to non-sports fans.

Judy Hale deserved better.

I don't always think that's true when people say that, either cause a character was awful and got what they deserved or they were fine and the writers treated them well enough.

BUT THIS TIME....

Judy Hale's entire life was spent in service to others. Her only idea of love came from people who treated her like shit, used her, verbally abused her and disrespected her constantly (yes, including Jen. I love her and them but be fucking honest). She deserved Michelle's healthy love and adoration. She deserved to go to Sonoma and start over. She deserved to be happy.

I may not agree that her death was a "bury your gays" moment but I agree it was a shitty decision that upset me regardless. That makes me no less pissed about it.

They had her happy ending right there and teased us with it only to go 'lol kidding'.

"bury your gays", like "queerbaiting", has a specific use and a queer character dying does not automatically fit the trope. BUT I'm already on the frontline fighting the war to keep "queerbaiting" relevant so I'm not going to go off about "bury your gays", do with it what you will. I will not debate you.

So, having said that, Judy Hale does not fit the "bury your gays" trope, as I understand it, but I'm still very disappointed by that ending to her story. The execution was beautiful. The performances were gut wrenching and amazing.

But "almost dying" is always a choice writers have with characters and their arrogance always leads to them to choose death because they want power over the devastation it brings the audience. They enjoy knowing they evoked the most powerful emotion out of us that they could and a character only almost dying softens it.

Liz took some wild swings in season 3. Those amazing and gut-wrenching performances did a lot to distract from it not being very good and made it enjoyable nonetheless.

I didn't even think of BYG with Judy. I DID think that it was awful for them to do Judy's character like that. It just felt like she had a life of being shitted on and lord was it entire life and somehow she still found a way to be positive:

Shitty mom who abused her. ✔️

Never knew her father ✔️

Abusive relationship ✔️

FIVE (yes five) miscarriages ✔️

Then to be told that she was not going fo have kids ever after so desperately wanting them.

The fact that it was Judy this happened to did not feel very beautiful to me. In the end, she was alone (yes by choice but still) and its seemed like it was more torture for that character who had a lifetime of pain despite being a beacon of positivity. Idk I wasn't a big fan of the message it sent BUT those performances were AMAZING. So I'll give them that.
