I know I'm definitely not the first person to complain about this, but guys...REBLOG.

As creators we're on this platform for the community and the interaction, not for the faceless likes (which do nothing for the algorithm on top of that).

If you like a fic, tell the author in some tags! If you enjoyed an artwork, reblog and leave a comment. Even an empty reblog helps. Don't want to clutter your blog? Make a side blog.

I've seen people say that we 'don't owe each other anything' and that's true. But if you want to keep enjoying free content, you guys better start reblogging.

Cause otherwise all the artists you admire so much, or the authors you've followed for years will disappear into their private circles and there won't be any content for you to enjoy at all.

Just to reiterate...there's no algorithm here like there is on Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok so just "liking" something doesn't get a thing in front of more eyes here on tumblr dot com...Reblogging does.

Helps keep the community thriving and helps bring the happy serotonin to both the content creators, who know you liked their thing because you reblogged it, and the consumers/viewers of the content because more people will see it!

This isn’t a new problem for creators on Tumblr, but it’s definitely something that’s getting worse and worse. If you enjoyed something, reblog it. If it’s not your jam, keep scrolling.

Likes are more of a bookmark so you can find it again in the future maybe, or a little ‘hey, I enjoyed that, have some extra kudos’ to the creator, but a reblog is a ‘thank you for giving me something I really enjoyed, I’m gonna show my friends’.

Without the people who reblogged my stories (which is something you can do for free to help), I would never have been able to turn my writing in to a full-time profession on Patreon that helped pay my mortgage for two whole years. Reblogging the content you actively enjoyed consuming (for free) is a great way to support the creators who provided the content you enjoyed (for free) and to get them to keep producing it (for free).

If it was worth your time to read/look at/consume, it should be worth your time to click reblog.
