ヽ(o´3`o)ノ
now that i’ve gotten over my fear of blond dazai, i think chuuya should be sandwiched between angel dazai and devil dazai
can’t even bring myself to watch the episode now bc i know they’re just gonna play in my face
the existence of blond dazai osamu in the wan anime…. someone needs to nuke that man immediately
like omg?? this is the scariest shit i’ve seen all day
i’m sorry i just can’t get over this bc they had the NERVE to make blondzai the angel meanwhile he looks like he would kill me and my entire family someone get that white devil out of my face

One of the things that makes Soukoku interesting to me is that for all their perfect teamwork and soulmate-isms they're still fundamentally the opposite of what each other needs.
It's almost impressive that they can mean so much to each other and still not be friends. You would think that if you grew up with someone and trusted them with your life and could basically read their mind, they would fall into that category somewhere along the line. But because of their specific hang-ups they simply can't fulfill that role for each other. They need their respective friend groups to give them the love they're incapable of giving each other.
Dazai cares about Chuuya but there's still a metric ton of plausible deniability in anything he does for him that could be interpreted that way. When Chuuya is within earshot all he does is go on about "You're my dog/I let you get tortured on purpose/I wanna mind control you to be my maid/I let corruption go on too long because it was fun to watch/etc". That's the opposite of what Chuuya needs. He needs to hear the words "We did this because you're our friend. We protected you because we love you and we don't regret it." He needs there to be no room for doubt before he can really accept it.
Conversely can you even imagine Chuuya giving Dazai advice on how to improve his mental health? All Chuuya does is endure. If Dark Era Dazai asked Chuuya what he should do with his life Chuuya would either tell him to suck it up or to stop asking stupid questions. Again Chuuya cares about Dazai but not in a way that would actually help him.
They can trust each other with their lives but not their character development. Which is an interesting contrast to shin soukoku, who are presented as the key to each other's development.
i find it interesting how some ppl always portray skk’s dynamic as inherently toxic. i wouldn’t say it’s healthy, but i wouldn’t call it toxic either.
the reason why a relationship btwn skk would be unhealthy is bc they both have unresolved problems, especially chuuya.
dazai has worked hard on improving himself, escaping the dark and entering the light. he has succeeded in many ways and i’m happy to see him finally finding a sense of peace, but he’s still got a long way to go. recovery takes time.
chuuya, on the other hand, always embodied the light. he brought the light wherever he went. but bc he’s spent so much time in the dark, he’s begun to slowly lose himself. asagiri said his path would be a difficult one, and it’s sure to get worse before it gets better (if it gets better).
their unresolved problems would make a romantic relationship unhealthy, but their dynamic isn’t toxic. they argue and get on each other’s nerves, but they also care for and trust one another.
i feel like the best example of a toxic dynamic btwn skk is the one shown in BEAST.
but canon skk? unhealthy, yes. but toxic? i’m not so sure
i still can’t get over the fact that chuuya and atsushi still haven’t officially met in the main manga
ESPECIALLY since a big driving factor toward developing the partnership between atsushi and akutagawa is because dazai wanted a next generation skk
meanwhile chuuya is just completely unaware of all of this
dazai: ya know since our successors—
chuuya: our what
So many skk fanfics have Chuuya be the one that openly shows affection while Dazai is emotionally constipated and while Dazai IS emotionally constipated have you seen them?? Dazai is out there giving Chuuya touching farewell speeches and Chuuya gets so embarrassed he shoots Dazai in the face. They're both so bad at showing care in ways that aren't actions but like Chuuya is EXTRA bad. The most physical affection he's given anyone is like, the fistbump he gave Dazai's shoulder that one time. You're telling me Chuuya is the one openly discussing feelings in this relationship?? Dazai will probably get two words in and Chuuya's already running for the hills. I can't imagine him even hugging people unless someone else initiates.
Bringing THIS post back because I have more to say. Want to apply this Attachment Theory (and be careful with and say that attachment theory is not a diagnosis or a set character trait but a description for a pattern of behavior) BUT-
I think if you look at their interactions especially in the first few years they've known each other Chuuya is Avoidant while Dazai is the DEFINITION of Disorganized.
Dazai knows Chuuya for like, a day, and yet throughout Fifteen he keeps ocilating between claiming to hate Chuuya and not want to be around him and yet finding every excuse to bother him, be around him, be close in some way. He ping pongs between being helpful and caring and being extremely antagonistic. Disorganized, or Fearful Avoidant people, see closeness as both safety and danger, hence why a pattern of affection and rejection the next moment is so common. We see in in the manga, too. Dazai's first mission after four years with Chuuya involved him antagonizing him one moment and showing affection the next. Dazai pretending he's dying so he could see Chuuya still cared about him. Dazai calling Chuuya "partner" after Corruption was over and then leaving him on the ground?? But weirdly folding his clothes for him? Definition of mixed signals common with Disorganized attachment. Dazai needs to feel close to someone but then needs to push them away the next moment, in order to feel safe.
Chuuya as an Avoidant is pretty self-explanatory, he cares deeply about the people around him, but also is incredibly uncomfortable with vulnerability and emotional intimacy. You COULD argue that Chuuya might also be Disorganized, after all, why would he be calling Dazai randomly to rant at him while drunk, or be so attached to people, but like. Avoidant people are not lacking in wanting companionship and intimacy, they just don't feel safe being too close too fast and need to maintain their boundaries. Honestly, Chuuya's most problematic Avoidant traits were a huge part of why the Sheep felt like they couldn't trust him and betrayed him: Chuuya didn't tell anyone shit about himself, partly as a source of responsibility and partly because he didn't feel safe too. His lack of explanation on why he was working with the Mafia, or even explicitly stating that the case mattered to him emotionally in some way, any expression of vulnerability and trust would have made his actions a lot more sympathetic and not confusing like they were for his friends. Chuuya's default mode toward anyone, even people he likes, is anger, because it keeps others at a distance and makes him feel safe. It takes a LOT for him to open up and admit to certain things, and he always prefers actions over words or emotional revelations.
And these two paired together? A mess but they also kind of get one another. They both need to pretend to dislike each other in order to keep a distance they feel safe with. Dazai's actions are seen as confusing and frustrating to Chuuya but he also kind of rolls with it most of the time. Like the random acts of vulnerability and affection paired with the classic "haha it was a joke" excuse angers him, but it's also familiar.
Go forth and write those fanfics, guys. Spread the canon agenda.
the conspiracy theories amongst civilians in the bsd universe are probably crazy
“hey you know mori corp? i lowkey think that’s a front for the mafia”
“you see those three giant dark buildings that overlook the city? i think that’s the mafia headquarters…”
“you know that nice little ginger boy who regularly helps grandma with her groceries? i heard he’s mafia..”
the average person thinks those conspiracies are bullshit meanwhile chuuya overhears someone talking about it and is like 👀
