hi asmodeus is actually a really self concious and lonely person, who is only able to make a limited connection through sexual pleasures with other people and not through actual bonding. he’s desperate for everyone’s attention and approval because he doesn’t have anyone who actively and continually supports and acknowledges him as a person, rather than the avatar of lust. he pretends he’s clingy to MC to have them sleep with him, but his clinginess represents more that of a touch stared child(ironically). especially after MC pacts with him, immediantly after he’s all cuddly with them, something that wasn’t really a thing before.
asmodeus wants your constant attention and affection because the only other attention he gets are the same sexual ones. which i’m sure he enjoys, but a being of lust is also a being of love, the two emotions being closer than people like to realize. asmodeus doesn’t just want someone to be in bed with him, but he wants someone who will give him all of their heart and love. point proven in the latest chapters where asmodeus makes the bet with MC.
asmodeus could have easily said “If i win you have to sleep with me” but instead he said “if i win you have to say you love me”. if he really was just only horny and wanted to see you naked, he would’ve made that very clear. but in that deliberate moment where he pulled you aside to be /alone/, but not in a private area, he wanted to have a moment of actual emotional connection with you. when he loses of course he’s distraught, he doesn’t get to hear you say you love him :c
instead he cries, not very sexy, and says he doesn’t want you to leave. like this man straight up is crying in the club, come on. and if you choose the “kiss him” response he doesn’t be all creepy about it, he perks up a bit and happily says “I love you!”.
another part of that scene is where asmo says how he’s only ever thought of himself, but suddenly he thinks about you just as much, if not more. he says that’s not really like him, but it honestly is. someone who is used to only having themselves give them attention and love is going to be absolutely captured by someone else who does the same. MC actually caring about asmo and caring for him as more than a friend but less than a sexual partner is something new for him. he’s like a little kid, latching onto the first signs that someone actually cares for him.
there’s way more instances than this one scene, especially the scenes at diavolo’s castle where simeon calls out asmo on “just wanting someone to love him”. if that wasn’t the case, then asmo wouldn’t have gotten so defensive. he wouldn’t have turned to you, a 3rd party, and ask you to agree with him. he would’ve just been like “nah that aint it fam”. like!! on his special guests interactions he even asks “do you think we’re a good pair?” and he looks so upset. “thats bc you got like one star!” maybe!! but maybe that’s also him being insecure in his feelings!!
