âWow, I only said âdateâ and you finally decided to wake up.â Like a magic word of sorts, and itâs actually quite terrifying how much Furuya was letting himself be⊠controlled? Yeah, thatâs a word, but letâs pretend it definitely wonât bite him back (it will).
As a reflex, he yawned as well. He was also feeling tired, and if worded out, Miyuki would have agreed that they could go to that cafĂ© in the afternoon. âGood morning,â manners first, because he was the older one and had to set an example. He rubbed one of his eyes, moving his glasses too in the process. âI noticed that, yeah.â If the catcher had stayed silent, he probably wouldâve ended up watching Furuya in his sleep.
At the last question, he hummed, deciding on the options. âIs it gonna take long to get there?â he asked, because they could probably just⊠eat something small before going out at all, but didnât want to ruin their appetite either. âIf you are already fully awake, yes, we can go~. Are you that excited?â he chuckled.
To be fair to Furuya, this might be the one and only chance he ever has at a date with Miyuki. Or ever, for the rest of his life, depending on how badly this one goes. Furuya might be sleepy and unmotivated, but he also knows not to squander his rare opportunities. That applies to both coming to Seido as a pitcher... and also this date he's going on today.
Somehow, the way Miyuki said I noticed that is embarrassing, as though he's saying, yes, I noticed how sleepy you are and how much you want to be in my room. It feels like a criticism somehow, even if it's not. Actually, most things Miyuki says to him feel like criticism regardless of how the catcher actually means it. Then again, that might just be a function of Furuya being completely incapable of processing any social interaction.
"It shouldn't be long," Furuya says. There are a lot of cat cafes in Tokyo, and the closest cat cafe from their station is fairly close. For once, Furuya actually checked something in advance! Miyuki should be proud that he took initiative looking something up. It may never happen again. "Let's... just head over." Despite being an athlete, Furuya struggles with eating as much as he needs to, especially this early in the morning. Since this is a date and not baseball practice, hopefully Miyuki won't force him to shovel rice in his face like usual.
He wonders if Miyuki's teasing question is a trap, but he decides to answer it honestly. "Yes, I'm excited. I like cats." And spending time with you. Furuya swallows down the words. He gets the sense that Miyuki shies away from intense feelings, so he smartly decides to be careful with what he says. "Even if this wasn't a date, I would be excited about the cats." There. Now there's no pressure on Miyuki at all... maybe. "But I'm also interested to see how Miyuki-senpai interacts with cats." Furuya tilts his head. Quiet, unassuming people attract animals more, while people who try too hard usually scare them off. If he went with Sawamura, for example, his teammate's loud voice would probably send the cats running (not on purpose, he means well).
