So what’s really cool here, and it’s something I only just realized: consider closely what each character says.
Lecter: I forgive you, Will.
Graham: Hannibal, I forgive you.
Notice how the focus each sentence is different. To Hannibal, forgiveness is the focus of what he’s saying. He’s never had to forgive anyone in his life. He’s never wanted or needed to forgive someone before, because that would imply that they were capable of doing something “wrong”.
Hannibal couldn’t forgive anyone else because never felt the need to forgive someone (like Tobias for trying to kill him, or Jack or Alana) because he assigns no moral weight to their actions. To him, it’s understandable that they’re going to try kill him, and he accepts it, and you can’t forgive someone for something that you can accept. It would make as much sense for me to say “I forgive you” to a frightened animal that clawed me when I got too close.
For the first time, Hannibal is capable of forgiveness because he believes Will understands him. He doesn’t see Will’s actions as the frightened reaction of a scared animal: he sees Will’s actions as a conscious betrayal. The weight of this scene actually has very little to do with Will Graham in isolation: it’s that Hannibal has found himself capable of being hurt enough, to be capable of forgiveness. I forgive you, Will. He is acknowledging how much he has been changed.
Now let’s consider Will Graham. Not shown in the gif, but what he actually says is: “Hannibal, I forgive you.” Will’s line focuses on Hannibal, with the forgiveness as almost an afterthought, barely a whisper. This part is explained more blatantly: Will has never known himself as when he was with Hannibal. He understands that if he ever needs to reforge this bond again, he has to start by forgiving him. He has consciously directed his forgiveness at Hannibal, unlike the reverse, which was a sudden realization deflected onto Will. For the first time, Will has found someone he wants to forgive, through his arrogance and aloofness. Hannibal, I forgive you. What’s important isn’t really the action, it’s the desire for the emotional connection to Hannibal that action provides.
Now consider Bella’s line in “Mizumono”:
Forgiveness is such a profound conscious and unconscious state of affairs. You can’t actually choose to do it. It simply happens to you.
These men have both taken one part of forgiveness: Graham with the conscious communication of his forgiveness, and Hannibal with the unconscious realization of his ability to forgive. But it’s not complete. They have each “half-forgiven” each other. And here we are.

Okay so I doodled Jesus as I thought he’d look like if he was in Satan and Me
Essentially he’s the chill, hippy-like guy that probably has zero interest in the End of Days thing. Would totally have hung out at Thirsties with the Fallen. 10/10 would befriend the muffin.
most people call him Jesus, but he prefers to be called Emmanuel
would you fuck a clone of yourself?
