Tangled in Shadows
(megumi x reader | angst | possessive love | slow burn)
You didnât expect much from him. He barely talked. But it wasnât silence that scared youâit was how that silence saw right through you.
"U good?" he asked once, soft but sharp.
"Yeah," you lied.
He stared. Didnât push. Just *knew*.
He wasnât kind in the usual way. Not flowers. Not smiles. Just... stayed. When everyone else dipped, he stayed.
He didnât say he cared. But the way he pulled you outta your head, the way his fingers brushed your wrist like it was glassâthat said everything.
One night, you broke. Couldnât fake it. Tears, panic, chest tightâyou were done.
And he didnât freak. Didnât flinch. Just held your stare. Then said, âDonât hide that from me again.â
You didnât kiss him. He didnât lean in. But in that look... there was fire.
You showed up late again. Bruised knuckles. Shaky hands. Didnât wanna explain. Didnât need to. He was already waitinâ.
"Who did that?"
"Nvm," you muttered, lookinâ away.
"Don't make me ask twice."
He wasnât loud. He didnât yell. But when he stood up, jaw tight, eyes darkâyou froze.
âNext time you come back hurt,â he said low, âmake sure they donât walk away.â
Silence. Tension.
Then he stepped closer. âIâm not soft. I wonât be. But you got meâlike it or not.â
And this time, you kissed him. Messy. Fast. Like both of you needed the pain to mean something.
It wasnât love. Not the soft, storybook kind. It was late-night bruises & heavy breathing in silence.
âYou tryna fix me or break me?â you asked, breath shaky.
He didnât answer. Just stared at you like you were both the fire & the smoke.
âYou keep cominâ back,â he murmured, voice low, âbut you always flinch when I touch you.â
You hated that he noticed. Hated more that he cared.
âIâm not scared of you.â
âThen prove it.â
You reached for him, fingers sliding under his shirt, nails dragging slow. He didnât stop you. Didnât speak.
His grip was roughâlike he didnât trust himself to be gentle. And maybe you liked that. Maybe you needed something real enough to hurt.
âSay it,â you whispered.
He leaned in close, breath warm on your skin.
âI donât do soft,â he growled.
âGood,â you whispered back. âNeither do I.â
The kiss wasnât sweet. It was war. And both of you were losing.
It was past midnight. The city buzzed outside, but inside, silence.
You sat on the floor, back against the wall, knees to your chest. Empty.
Megumi stood nearby, arms crossed, jaw clenched.
"Why didn't you call me?" he asked, voice low.
You shrugged. "Didn't want to bother you."
He moved closer, kneeling in front of you. "You're never a bother."
Your eyes met. His were stormy, intense.
"I can't lose you," he whispered. "Not when you're the only thing keeping me sane."
You reached out, fingers brushing his. "I'm here."
He pulled you into a tight embrace, holding you as if you'd vanish.
"I need you," he murmured. "More than you know."
You closed your eyes, letting his warmth seep in.
In that moment, broken pieces found solace in each other.
You hadnât seen Megumi in days. The silence was louder than any fight.
You sat alone in your room, staring at your phone. No messages. No calls.
A knock at the door. You opened it to find him there, eyes dark, expression unreadable.
"Can we talk?" he asked.
You stepped aside, letting him in.
"I've been thinking," he began, voice low. "About us."
You nodded, heart pounding.
"I don't want to lose you," he said. "But I can't keep pretending I'm not messed up."
You reached out, touching his hand. "We're both messed up."
He looked at you, vulnerability in his eyes. "Then maybe we can be messed up together."
You leaned in, pressing your forehead to his. "I'd like that."
He wrapped his arms around you, holding you close.
In that moment, you both knew it wouldn't be easy. But you were willing to try.
Together.
