          ‘  well ,  you’re  not  wrong  about  that ,  ’  ariana  beams  a  bit  as  she  speaks ,  sliding  her  fingers  into  her  freshly  dyed  orange  hair  to  tuck  behind  her  ear .  the  girl  took  quite  a  lot  of  PRIDE  in  her  appearance ,  only  stepping  out  of  her  home  in  sweatpants  if  she  were  off  to  the  airport  (  and  even  then,   they’re  from  burberry  or  versace  ) .  ariana  crosses  one  foot  in  front  of  the  other  as  she  gets  comfortable ,  bringing  the  lip  of  the  bottle  up  to  her  lips  for  a  short  sip .  ‘  when  did  you  get  back  in  town  ?  i  feel  like  i  haven’t  seen  you  in  forever ,  and  by  the  i  mean  since  last  summer .  i  know  i  can  DROP  off  the  planet  sometimes ,  but  that’s  not  important  right  now .  i  wanna  know  everything .  ’

the   one   thing   she   longed   the   most   for  throughout   the  entire  course  of  the  year  was  to  revisit  her  favorite  summer  destination  ,   southampton  ,   where  all  broke  loose  &  she  had  plenty  of  spots  welcoming  her  unruly  behaviorism  that  her  parents  did  not  witness  .   the  local  grocery  store  was  a  popular  destination  on  her  map  ,   known  as  the  best  place  to  load  up  the  cart  with  alcohol  for  the  upcoming  night  ,   which  was  how  most  of  the  evenings  were  usually  spent  .   at  the  very  sight  of  the  all  too  familiar  figure  ,   her  features  formed  a  puzzled  frown  ,   furrowed  eyebrows  turning  to  check  if  there  was  someone  else  standing  behind   her  ,   for  whom  the  remark  was  aimed  for  .   ❛   was  that  meant  to  be  a  compliment  for  me  or  are  you  just  talking  to  the  bottle  ?   ❜   she  scoffed  with  a  shrug  of  her  shoulders  .

            the  best  part  about  being  in  southampton  was  that  her  parents  hardly  ever  came  to  the  picturesque  town ,  which  meant  she  had  their  vacation  home  all  to  herself .  for  the  last  few  days  since  her  arrival ,  ariana  has  left  her  clothes  draped  over  the  immaculate  furniture  while  BLARING  her  favorite  music  from  the  sound  system  and  drowning  herself  in  too  much  wine .  soft  brown  hues  roll  slightly  as  she  hears  the  girl  before  her  speak ,  raising  the  lip  of  the  bottle  back  to  her  red  stained  lips .  ‘  i’m  talking  to  the  BOTTLE ,  of  course .  what  reason  would  i  have  to  compliment  you  ?  ’  the  fur  coat  that  falls  off  her  shoulder  seems  a  bit  excessive  thanks  to  the  heat  just  outside  of  the  grocery  store ,  but  it  works  well  for  ariana’s  aesthetic  (  at  least ,  in  her  mind  it  does  ) .  her  head  tilts  as  she  holds  on  to  the  hand  basket  and  sips  the  wine  again .  ‘  are  you  FISHING  for  compliments  now  ?  damn ,  didn’t  think  you’d  ever  be  that  desperate .  ’

—- SHE FELT HERSELF STIFFEN even more at the command to “relax.” of course, the stranger had no idea, but mia had always absolutely hated when someone told her that since, well, she just heard it so much being the rowdy fire-starter mia had always been. taking a deep breath, she tried to calm herself down, responding through her clenched jaw, “well, do you have anything to make it a little bit better now? i’m guessing you don’t drag your dry cleaner around wherever you go.” under the flashing lights, it was hard to tell whether the stain was that bad, but mia kept rubbing at it. “what were you drinking anyway?” she asked, trying to get more information to remedy her situation.

          ariana  tilts  her  head  as  she  waits  for  the  girl  to  say  SOMETHING ,  sliding  her  glass  back  onto  the  bar  for  another .  ‘  what  do  you  expect  for  me  to  do  ?  wave  a  magic  wand  and  make  everything  perfect  again  ?  that’s wild . ’  ariana  gives  the  bartender  another  nod ,  and  immediately  takes  a  quick  swig  of  the  alcoholic  beverage .  she  looks  down  at  the  glass  in  her  hand  for  a  short  moment .  ‘  vodka  tonic ,  but  it  kind  of  sucks .  i’m  not  looking  to  get  wasted ,  but  the  drink  is  free  so  i’ll  PRETEND  like  i  like  it .  ’  she  grins  a  bit  as  she  leans  close  to  the  girl’s  ear  to  be  heard  over  the  pulsing  music .  ‘  are  you  going  to  sit  here  at  the  bar  all  night  or  would  you  rather  join  me  on  the  dance  floor  ?  ’

            usually ,  ariana  doesn’t  do  her  own  grocery  shopping .  in  other  words ,  she  has  a  GUY  for  that ,  but  she  wasn’t  in  the  mood  to  wait  around  for  wine  and  a  hoard  of  unhealthy  snacks .  thus  far ,  her  hand  basket  is  filled  with  a  second  bottle  of  wine  along  with  chips ,  cookies ,  and  the  best  sugar  candy  she  could  get  her  hands  on . she  doesn’t  expect  to  get  a  RESPONSE  from  her  words ,  but  she  raises  a  brow  and  dusts  her  orange  hair  off  of  her  shoulders .  ‘  ah ,  you  caught  me ,  ’  she  speaks  in  a  playful  tone .  ‘  it’s  the  only  way  to  determine  if  i  really  want  to  buy  it  or  not ,  and  thankfully  ?  i  do .  ’  a  soft  grin  stretches  across  her  features  as  she  speaks  and  places  a  manicured  hand  onto  her  hip .  her  shoulder  rolls  into  a  NONCHALANT  shrug  as  she  looks  up  at  the  taller  male ,  leaning  against  the  shelf  beside  her .  ‘  maybe  i’m  more  into  the  cheap  kind ,  did  you  ever  think  about  that  ?  is  that  supposed  to  be  a  sports  reference  ?  ’  ariana  does  her  best  impression  of  the  dumb  blonde  trope ,  mouth  falling  agape .

val was at the grocery store because it was movie night at her place and of course– you can’t have movie night without popcorn. she had ran out a couple of days before so she decided to stop by the store to grab a box of microwave popcorn and also some other necessities here and there. 

once she had suddenly heard a familiar voice, she immediately turned around, eyes widening in curiosity at who was talking to her. if it was a pap, right back around she would turn. if it were a fan, she would probably stop to take a quick selfie or two.

but once val realized it was neither and it was instead her close friend ariana, an excited squeal escaped her lips, now running over to her friend and wrapping her in a large bear hug, the two shifting left and right for a moment while holding onto each other. “biiiiiiitch, how have you been??” she asked excitedly, grinning from ear to ear now as she pulled away and pulled her cart closer to the two.

            a  CHESHIRE  grin  appears  on  ariana’s  face  when  val  notices  her ,  keeping  a  tight  grip  on  her  bottle  and  basket  when  she’s  embraced  by  the  other .  it’s  been  a  while  since  she  saw  the  other  while  having  one  of  their  late  night  shenanigans ,  let  alone  since  they’ve  seen  each  other  outside  of  the  strobe  lights  and  pulsing  music .  ‘  mm ,  i’ve  been  over  the  moon  as  always ,  ’  ariana  puts  on  her  best  aubrey  hepburn  voice  as  she  speaks ,  bringing  a  hand  to  rest  against  her  chest  after  screwing  the  cap  back  onto  her  bottle  of  wine .  ‘  but ,  i’ve  been  shopping  and  sleeping  and  partying  and  having  the  best  sex  of  my  life  much  like  every  other  girl ,  ’  a  soft  laugh  falls  from  her  brims .  ‘  how  about  you  ?  staying  out  of  trouble ,  i  HOPE .  ’
