Writing advice that changed my sentence
When I was a young writer, I was told that I often started my sentences with "there is/there was/there are." I was told to eliminate those as much as possible.
I couldn't believe how often I used them. My first novel was completely littered with them.
I learned to diversify and grow my use of verbs. Instead of the state-of-being verbs, like "is" which isn't very descriptive at all, I started using stronger verbs.
Instead of writing "There were a bunch of trees on the hill" I wrote "A cluster of trees towered over the hill."
"Towered" is a much stronger verb than "Is"
Use the state-of-being words, but if you can, try replacing them with more active verbs. You might be surprised how much your writing improves.
The problem about having brainrot for your own fic is that I want to talk about it constantly but I don’t want to spoil anything but I want to talk about motives and characters and just the events but I want to preserve mystery and suspense
Teeth clamped down hard on a rabbit's leg, yanking it out of the burrow it nearly escaped into. Lips quirked into a pleased grin as the dog slammed the rabbit down, held it to the ground with one paw, and quickly snapped its neck with his teeth. That would do for a decent meal and tide him over for a day or so. Wolf's tail wagged as he picked up his soon to be meal, though his tail paused in it's movements at the sound of rustling in the underbrush. "Who's there?" -At anyone
Half-cropped ears flicked back as he silently observed the black furred Belgian Shepherd succeed in catching the rabbit. He’d been keeping an eye on the other for a few days now, debating whether or not to make an offer to join Hougen’s army. As far as Ronan could tell Wolf was currently a neutral dog.
Ronan was going to observe for a while longer when Wolf called out and the Anatolian Shepherd froze on the spot, internally cursing himself for subconsciously shifting his weight but he supposed that delaying would only provide Weed’s army with the opportunity to recruit Wolf instead so Ronan stood and pushed his way through the undergrowth with a small smirk on his maw.
“I guess we were tracking the same rabbit, friend.” Ronan tilting his head a little to one side, flicking his gaze from Wolf to the rabbit. “Name’s Ronan, you?”

Peace had reigned across Futago pass for as long as Hikari could remember. Until one night that peace was shattered by a ‘monster’ that turned out to be a dog that had been betrayed by the Humans and used as nothing more than an experiment.
When the threat of Kaibutsu had passed Hikari had hoped that peace would return to Futago pass but more trouble soon arose in the form of Hougen.
Hikari - Born a Soldier of Ou, Hikari was taught from birth to honour the bonds of friendship and teamwork and that it was important to trust and respect those around you.

"You have to see them! Please, untie me-- you won't regret it. They are beautiful." -Gideon at Helen
Helen tensed as she listened to Gideon’s pleas to be untied and forced herself to focus on making sure the gun in her hands was loaded. Only Gideon’s statement that she wouldn’t regret looking made her pause long enough to look over at the handsome, crazed, survivor and respond with a simple ‘no’ before she slid the clip back into the gun.
“I’ve lost too many people to these... Things... to ever see them as ‘beautiful’...”
"Who is there? Please... just take what you wish and leave." Takehaya at anyone (Takehaya's wife saw the creature and yeahhhh)
Of all the people Sergio had ever expected to run into during this whole mess, Takehaya wasn’t one of them. It was unnerving to find the man looking so forlorn and... broken? Especially when Sergio remembered that Hiroshi had always spoken of how resilient Takehaya could be.
As desperate as Sergio was to find more supplies for himself he knew he wouldn’t feel right taking from a man who had clearly lost too much already.
“It’s me, Kaito...”
"If there is one thing I enjoy about this place... it is these. Come here you delicious bastards." Abel at anyone (not noticing the other person, raiding a grocery store for snackies)
The sound of Abel’s voice in the next aisle over had Adrian pausing, head cocking curiously to one side for a moment before he quietly made his way down the aisle he was in to peer around the corner at Abel as they reached across the mostly empty shelf to grab an unopened packet of cookies.
A wide grin spread across Adrian’s lips as he noticed the lack of a blindfold before he stepped into view, raising a hand in a friendly wave.
“Hey, you mind sharing those friend?~”
"I will shoot. Don't test me. Back away from the damn door." -Wolf at anyone
The venom in Wolf’s voice as he threatened to shoot if she didn’t back away from the door surprised Helen. Wolf had never threatened her or spoken to her so darkly before and that frightened her. The fact that Wolf wouldn’t let her open the door to Ravit scared her even more.
“Wolf... It’s just Ravit--” She tried to reason, refusing, for now, to step back from the door. “She’s practically your sister...”
Outside, Ravit’s pleas to be let in grew more desperate and Helen’s grip on the door handle tightened in response until she couldn’t stand it any longer and yanked the door open, deciding stupidly to trust the gut instinct that Wolf would never follow through on a threat to shoot her.

"Uh, hey there kid. You alright? You hit your head pretty hard on the pavement there." - Cosmic Spider @ Whoever
“Huh? Oh um... Yeah... We-- I am fine.” Helen responded, carefully moving to sit up and trying not to seem like she wasn’t actually completely and totally freaking the hell out.
Where in gods name was she? cause it sure as hell wasn’t in Britain anymore. Helen glanced around as casually as she could before focusing on the... Person? beside her.
“Um... Where am I?...” Definitely a contradictory question to her statement of being ‘fine’ but what the hell.
"Any particular team you are worried about, Hikari-chan? Or genin on there own you may think will be an issue?" -Eiji at Hikari
“Um, asides from Kabuto-san and maybe that Hyuga boy not really…” Hikari answered before she turned her attention to Eiji with a small tilt of her head. “What about you?”
"Oi, oi! What are you doing here too! Agh! What is everyone taking the exams!?" Naruto at Hikari
Hikari stopped mid-step as she heard Naruto’s exclamation over her presence, a brow raising slightly before she turned to face the other and study him curiously. He was definitely taller than she’d expected him to be but asides from that nothing else surprised her.
“Why wouldn’t I be taking the exam?” She asked, head tilting slightly to one side before she smiled. “Anyway I don’t think we’ve been formally introduced, I’m Hikari of Team 19.”
"Hikari, come on! We have to get to the exam!" - Eito
“Wha-- Oh! Shit!” Hikari leapt to her feet to dart after Eito, stuffing the book she was currently reading into her bag before she shouldered it. “Eito wait for me!”
Hikari quickly hurried to Eito’s side and glanced at her teammate, wondering if Eito was as nervous about the exam as she was.
“Are you nervous about this too?...” She asked quietly.
"Hikari... you're staring at Kabuto again..." - Eito
“W..what– No I’m not.” Hikari stammered, a bright blush colouring her cheeks as she hurriedly looked away from Kabuto before she scowled at Eito. “And even if I was you’re no better droolin’ over Asuma-Sensei all the time.”
"I'm warning you, pal... Back. Off." Hikari growled as she glared darkly at Hidan, her grip on her Kama tightening until her knuckles were stark white.
Hidan’s grip on his own weapon tightened as well– the three-bladed scythe resting upon his shoulder otherwise practically casually. Damn… he was not expecting to bump into the nine-tails brat… but, he was not about to pass up a chance to bring in a jinchuuriki on his own.
Kakuzu’s fault for pissing off on whatever bounty his greedy ass was more focused on.
“Aren’t you fucking adorable. What are you going to do, kill me?”
Not many things unsettled Hikari these days but everything about Hidan unnerved the Jinchuriki, his casual body language and response to her warning set off alarm bells. Even Kurama, who typically preferred to keep to himself became alert, a loud growl rumbling within the mind space they shared.
“Be careful of this one, Kit.” The Bijuu warned, observing Hidan through Hikari’s eyes. “There’s something foul and unnatural about him...”
Hikari gave a small nod of agreement and took a wary step back from Hidan, regarding the Akatsuki member with narrowed eyes as she debated running. She’d heard more than enough rumours regarding the Akatsuki’s brutish strength to be reluctant to engage in a fight with even one member of the group.
“We can try,” Hikari responded.
