There’s proof that it wasn’t just in their mind, but an actual, alternative world. First, Lukwa and Great randomly met each other at that exhibition, where they meet that other mysterious woman. After the exhibition is done, she asked if they wanted an experience 4 minutes or something along the lines. Great declined and quickly left, Lukwa on the other hand accepted the invitation and had an heart attack on the stairs, experiencing her 4Minutes.

The other clue is that Great and Tyme returned to the camping spot they had been in Great’s 4 Minutes, a place which Great acknowledged he had gotten to randomly and never knew it even existed.

Another clue might be tonkla seeing his cat and his brother that were already dead in the real world and who might be still alive in the alternative 4 minute timeline.

let's talk about Fuaiz as Tonkla in 4Minutes pls

originally i wanted to make a big post about how uncomfortable Korn makes me but i reblogged @grimoniasworld's excellent post that covers a lot of what i was feeling so there's that linked instead of me rehashing all of it. but what i do want to talk about and focus more on is the casting of Fuaiz for this show specifically in relation to how awful Korn is and how it supports that take on things actually.

i've seen a few people bringing up the fact that Fuaiz is only 18 and is playing a character that is participating in some pretty explicit sex scenes and how that is making them uncomfortable. some actors his age look older than their age, but Fuaiz doesn't- despite Tonkla seeming to probably be a little older than Fuaiz actually is in the current time line, he's still a young character, especially in the flashbacks we got in episode 4.

Bas, in contrast, is 27, and tho they did make Korn look a little younger in the flashback scenes, i don't think this is one of those shows where there's a 9 year age difference between the actors but we're meant to interpret them as being close to or the same age. i think casting someone like Fuaiz who is young and looks young and pairing him with someone older like Bas who isn't super old but is at least clearly older is supposed to be making it obvious that things are not right here.

Korn coming to comfort Tonkla who is emotionally vulnerable and then swooping in on him and "rescuing" him from his living situation but putting him into a position where he's financially dependent on Korn, and then starting a relationship and getting intimate and taking his virginity when he didn't even know how to kiss is something that should make you uncomfortable. i don't think they wanted to rely on context to tell you that Tonkla is young with an actor even in their early 20s playing him, i think they went with an actor who is young so that it's not something a viewer can rationalize away with the knowledge that the actor you're seeing in those scenes is older than the character is.

basically, is watching an 18 year old have sex with an older man who is in a superior position to him socially/economically/life experience-wise/etc making you uncomfortable? good, because it should. this is not a cute sweet romance between these two characters. this is wrong, and we're supposed to feel like it's wrong. we're supposed to feel the dissonance there. we're supposed to be side eyeing Korn. it's supposed to feel icky. because it is.

It's the fact that in this show (where we are getting oral sex, hand jobs, mentions about condoms and PrEP, bare ass, solely transactional sex, and so much more) that Great simply putting his hand on Tyme's in a moment of vulnerability after sharing his childhood story about never getting affection from his parents only money says so much . . .

ABOUT KORN!

Korn's mom died by suicide. When she died, his father moved his mistress and the kid who is a product of their affair into the big house, so if Great said he never got affection, imagine how Korn was treated since he was motherless and found himself sharing space with his dad's sidepiece.

While Great just wants to feel human connection, Korn wants to prove he is worthy of being loved hence why he doesn't rebel like Great and takes on his new duties with gusto and even tried expanding the business already. It's also why he has a sugar baby since the baby shouldn't leave him if he keeps supplying the money, which is what his dad and stepmom taught him.

But Tonkla doesn't want nor necessarily need Korn's money. He wants Korn to trust him (hence the request for condom-less sex), but Korn doesn't trust anyone. He doesn't even tell Great much.

Great actually trusts very easily. He went on that car ride with Title not knowing anything and almost ended up as an accomplice to murder. He told Korn and Tyme that he is seeing visions. He is wanting connection. But Korn . . . not so much.

Even if Korn does want connection, the death of his mother and the way his father handled the aftermath caused Korn to fit in even in places he doesn't want to be.

And to stay with people even if he doesn't want them.

Both boys were shown that money beat everything else even love.

Yet Great is pushing against it.

And Korn embraced it.

One of my favourite theories is that Tyme is the one either jumping back in time and/or being able to enter the dreamworld Great had created after his heart attack.

Of course, in the original timeline/original present they met under different circumstances, so every time Tyme 'flirts' with Great he knows exactly what he is doing and cannot believe that he has to do any of that.

And I love to think that the face he makes when Great asks about his name - that little smile/smirk - is because he remembers how Great asks for his name the first time.

And how delicious would it be that he checks himself out in the mirror because Great once said to him that he liked his body or that his body/face was the first thing that attracted his attention. Or maybe Tyme had been an asshole to Great (which makes more sense) and now the obvious solution was to use his body instead of his words lol

This series gives me a headache but all the possibilities are great (see what I did there lol)

I would like to address the conversation going on around Playboyy The Series and the "lack of plot" seemingly presented since its inception (promo). I feel like a huge point is being missed by the general consumers of BL that I, as a queer woman, would like to draw attention to. Sex in queer communities, while ultimately being a form of pleasure, has also been a form of protest. There are still countries in which same sex intercourse is illegal and, in some cases, is punishable by death. Media's response to queers only being palatable to straight people when they viewed them as not being fully functioning human beings who partake in sex (aka taking away their autonomy) were shows like Queer As Folk and The L Word. I know QAF has been in discussion frequently with the rise of more risqué BL like Love In The Air, KinnPorsche, and Only Friends. However, Playboyy The Series is much truer to that era of media in unapologetically portraying queer intimacy more explicitly to remind straight people that we are fully human and with that should come the human right to have sex without being surveilled and reprimanded, to have marriage equality because queer people can also view physically intimacy as an act of love just like straight people, to have access to all basic human rights, because we are REAL! I understand if explicit sex isn't your thing, if cutesy plots are more of your style, but to condemn Playboyy The Series for being "plotless" in this scenario seems unfair to me. Sex is the protest, therefore sex is the main plot device in the show to lead us through the plot because it's a huge part of humanity and queers are human period.

Some of you can’t read, It says there: “every meme these days can get on Ellen” comparing bts to a meme aka a viral thing not to be taken seriously. And that’s a fact, nobody cares about bts and their music in the west except fans. And nobody uses them for clout either because bts isn’t relevant enough for that lbr… what bts is good for is Some views from their fandom or as a “weird asian gimmick”. That said, one or two korean groups maybe a boy and a girl group is more than enough for a gimmick. Yeah, a kpop group that writes lyrics that promote self love, writes socially conscious lyrics and promote the same message heavily, sold out multiple arena concert dates all across Europe and the US, including selling Citi Field stadium, charting since 2015, 2 #1 albums with a non-English album in the US knocking out US heavyweights and multiple top 10 singles, Top 40 in the UK, fandom exploding since their US debut (and those fans were gp once too - shocker) on the cover of Time magazine and chosen as one of the Next Generation Leaders, was asked to speak at the UN - yeah, they’re just seen as nothing more than an “Asian gimmick" and joke and are no different than any kpop group out there - that probably also why they got the Order of Cultural Merit as the only kpop group and youngest repecients ever. That’s y’all antis wishful thinking.

But stay thinking Asian artists can’t possibly be taken seriously and seen as more than a joke and a gimmick by the west.

Nobody is saying that it should be happening, simply that it is happening. Listen to how people talk about them when they mention them on tv. It’s always about the fans and how crazy they are. ARMYs themselves complained all the last like 10 times they came to the US and had interviews on the same generic topics like “Don’t you love how crazy your fans are” or “what’s you’re favorite American food” don’t forget the famous “who is your celebrity crush”. Part of the problem is that they’re a boy band and the media really hardly ever takes those seriously in musical capacities because their fans are mostly teenage girls and women.

The other part is and will remain to be that America does not see Asian people in entertainment capacities unless they’re playing the nerd/doctor/sidekick/martial artist. Can we please just oook at it for what it is? The GENERAL feel from the media and the public outside of Kpop fans is that it’s a gimmicky type thing. That’s why they consider it a “craze”. Go on an post by MTV/iHeartRadio/Fuse that isn’t overrun by Kpop fans and people are just being grossly xenophobic. Of course it’s not everyone, but they really aren’t being taken seriously and that’s a fact. If they were being taken seriously don’t you think they would’ve been nominated for a music related reward by now? Not social artist or album cover. Music. Because that’s what they do. Before you call people antis read the whole confession and realize that this person isn’t saying they’re glad this is happening or that it should be happening but this is the feeling they’re getting from the situation.

But that isn’t exclusive to BTS. That happens to every boyband on the planet and is far from being seen as nothing more than an “Asian gimmick” as OP wants to make it out to be. Bts has received a lot of recognition for their art and their message, but it’s nothing new that entertainment media is shallow and sensational and is getting to know BTS first - of course their first thing to jump on is the most vocal part, their fans. But that isn’t a bad thing, their message and talents are being recognized more and more as time goes by, being asked to perform, albums criticly acclaimed etc. Things have to start from somewhere and grow. You can’t expect a non-American group to just make it onto the scene/make waves and disrupting the US way of things and get nominated right away when it takes American years. BTW he BBMAS (their first social media award) music weighed in heavily - it didn’t come out of nowhere.

Also, the fandom is growing rapidly - like i said, there were many open minded ppl that started getting to now and ended up stanning. The negativity isn’t all there is.

The anti-Asian aspect of it where they’re acting like it’s so crazy that these seven Asian men have fans for making music is definitely exclusive to MALE Kpop bands. I’m in the fandom, and constantly reading reports and articles and comments on BTS and the focus isn’t on them being Asian per say, but that they’re a foreign group, with non-English songs with a big international fandom - which is a phenomen that has rarely (if ever) been seen in the West. Of course there is “anti-Asian rhetoric”, that’s not what’s being discussed here. I was arguing OP’s claim that:

1. No one cares about BTS or their music in the west apart from fans

2. They’re seen as nothing but a asian gimmick

3. That non-English speaking artists can’t be taken seriously.

Also, please reread what I wrote. I never said OP is making them out to be a gimmick, I said OP is making it seem like BTS is seen by the public/US media/west as an “asian gimmick”.

Like I said before - BTS is achieving things in the US that a non-English speaking group has ever done before - and THAT’S a fact. BTS is changing the conversation - not only said, by fans, but critics, journalists, kpop artists and many Asia American celebs. Am I denying the fact there is xenophobia and lack of respect? No, but it’s not the all of it or even the majority of what we’re seeing in the US, like the OP is arguing - BTS has seen a great number of listeners and influx in attention and interest from that so called US gp and media in the last year. That has to count for something.

I’m just going to leave because I still think you’re missing the point I was making and the point the OP was making. I’ve already said it’s not everyone that’s not taking them seriously because they have accomplished some things but to say that they’re not being treated a certain way (hence the gimmick) kind of ignores the fact that the discrimination against Asians in entertainment in the United States is a real problem that affects people born in and outside of the United States.

I know exactly how the conversation is going. Usually writers have some vested interest in their article. I’m talking about general media, general public. I don’t need to pull up threads on the racism and xenophobia to know they’re there. No one should. That’s a given. Other artists have been generally very nice to them, too. Does that mean all of them have been as respectful or that all of them really care? No. We have a duo that collaborated with them but literally made a dog eating joke. I’m also in the fandom. And I’ve been in the fandom for a long ass time.

No one is denying all these issues are there, but let’s not pretend that 1too34′s intent is to take a stance against these issues or to highlight them. If they were, I’d be all for it. They're just simply discrediting, and trying to downplay their achievements by making their objective assessments out to be facts and spewing belittling remarks.

More and more non-kpop fans are becoming bts fans - from middle aged men, to young kids, to soccer moms, from all walk of life - if that isnt a testament on how bts is perceived by the gp, how the media is portraying them and that BTS is making a significant impact with their music and message then idk. New fans don't just fall from the sky. Critics are giving their music amazing reviews. Some journalists might have vested interest, but their claims are based on real achievements and numbers that can’t be denied and speak for themselves - THOSE are the facts. A fact is also that popular “boygroups/teen stars” arent taking as seriously at first and sensationalized.

(And 2015 fan here (which shouldn't even matter), but i have seen the shit they’ve dealt with, but they are overcoming all that and changing the convo in the west slowly, but surely. But some are too bitter and negative to realize that and its sad to see.)

I was a fan, but that’s died down a lot because of the way they are portrayed or excepted by US media. OP wasn’t wrong. The same thing happened with Psy. He was considered a phenomenon because he had the most views and every time they talked to him, it was barely about music. And yes this does also happen with boy bands, where they are involved in awkward ass conversations and interviews and campaigns, but to ignore that a part of that has to do with it being a KPOP group is ignorance. Think about, once Bts got popular now all of a sudden, nearly every entertainer has been a KPOP fan for years, but no one has ever mentioned it. Other groups have been selling out stadiums and causing ruckus for years, but nothing special happened even though they had the talent. And please let’s not act as if there are no other talented KPOP bands other than Bts. 🙄

In nearly every interview they gloss over their music and yes Namjoon does a lot to try to speak on the music but the interviewer talks about other stuff beyond that like their fans and their popularity and fan centric questions. They did the same with NCT and Monsta X and Got7 and EXO and Big Bang. And Big Bang and been famous for nearly 10 years when western media decided to interview them simply because their music was being used at the South Korean border. EXO has been selling out concerts long before BTS debuted but no interviews and no media coverage. Because around that time KPOP wasn’t the fad that it is today. That’s why no KPOP BAND has been nominated for a music award not relating to popularity or social platforms. Western media is not taking the seriously as artists.

No once again, no one is saying that they dont deserve the notoriety, we’re saying that the media is taking advantage of a fad and running with it to the bank. And honestly y’all are falling for it. Western entertainment industry is all about money. That’s why they are on so many show, because their dedicated fans are going to pull out the money to buy tickets to see them being interviewed, they are going to buy any products endorsed by the boys. Yes, they are all talented. But out side of their fans how many people do you really think are supporting KPOP. What other group was selling out stadiums in the US because western impact us what we’re talking about here? Please tell me because not even Bigbang or Psy did. BTS’ achievements in the west are undeniable and unprecedented, this has nothing to do so with there not being OtHer TAleNted kPoP GRoUps.

Also, the difference between Psy and BTS, is his moment was a purely viral phenomenon because of the catchy song, dance and music video. Bts has grown because of the music that the fans so fiercely believe in and promote and ppl stay for. That’s a huge difference. BTS doesn’t need US media, US media needs them. Have you seen the traction we give them compared to others?

Even western actors are getting the same shallow questions and interviews, especially teen stars get the same treatment and being capitalized on. That is the US media. Be it here or in Korea - it’s the same. If ya wanna be promote yourself over in the US, you need to play by their rules, especially as a newcomer. Of course them being kpop artists or asian is part of it, but i don’t think it’s even the biggest reason for it because it happens to every popular/mainstream artist. Ppl that try to deny the fact that the US entertainment media is shallow, dumb and out for views in general are ignorant.

We as fans are also playing the game. A nomination got them a spot to perform, more noms and more publicity, radio plays, two number one albums, UN, Time cover, sold out arena and stadium world tour and stadium concert in the US and even more publicity and a highly awaited comeback. Clearly, BTS are making an unprecedented impact in the US. To deny that is pure denial.

Things happen step by step. And we’re seeing that with BTS - they’ve been showing consistent growth over these years and carried by a steadely growing fandom - that’s FAR from a viral trend. They’re music is also recognized BY MEDIA step by step. We have great interviews and articles focusing on their music, media pointing out and highlighting their socially conscious lyrics and message, interviewers asking about albums, their UN speech, Time cover, Grammy continuously acknowledging them, famous critics giving them beyond faverobable reviews, calling their music underrated, new fans discovering their music and the rest of the gp (friends, family, neighbors) all taking note of all this.

Things will grow and change, don’t you bitter and negative ppl worry. The Beatles were even hated and discredited by media as a “gimmick” and their music not taken seriously once. BTS being treated as a gimmick or not by some, doesn’t deny their popularity or impact in the west because what matters is their art and ppl getting to know and choosing to support them and their msg.

And there are some great interviews highlighting and focusing on their music, from now and then. Let me know if you need some suggestions.

Anyway, I’m done here. Our opinions differ. I and many others see a huge impact and their music getting recognized regardless of how the media is portraying them and you don’t. That’s ok.

The worst part about this conversation is that you believe that this is an attack on BTS. I was a fan of the music that’s the only reason their songs are still on my playlists. I said that the way they are exploited by the media made me lose interest. Just as the racist ass fans made me not want to be a part of the Army or any KPOP groups fandom.

I stopped watching their interviews because I enjoyed interviews where all the members were speaking and where they aren’t only asked ridiculous questions that make people uncomfortable. I became a fan because it seemed like BTS was beyond the nonsense of the gimmick of boy bands and more focused on their music and their fans. But western media has taken that and warped it into something that isn’t them. My hatred of the way their being exploited doesn’t make me less of a fan.

Once again I will say no one is saying that BTS doesn’t deserve recognition. We are all saying that they are being exploited, the same way black people are exploited in media. The take our talents and promote them to make them money until the next big thing comes along.

Once again, you are only reading this an as attack on BTS, you spent much of your reply defending them, and when no one said anything bad about them. If you aren’t going to understand that we are saying the issue is western media then you’re just being delusional and not actually trying to focus on the issue.

I didn’t once say that BTS needed the attention, that’s how I know, you are using your own narrative and making a lot of effort to accuse me of saying things that I never said. But that’s okay.

BTS and other KPOP bands are being exploited for their talent and trends and their “fandom” is so obsessed with them breaking into western media that they can’t even see what happening. Once this wave of KPOP love dies down, we’ll see how many people are still capping for these groups.

The exact same thing happened to older boy bands, there was a shit ton of them when I was growing up and now they just do reunion tours.

Same thing happened with One Direction. The world went crazy over them, sold out venues and stadiums and in less than 5 years they broke up and now the only people still loving them are old 1D fans. And those girls were just as dedicated as the KPOP fandoms. This always happens and those same obsessed fans refuse to believe that anything could ever end their run of fame. Well the entertainment industry here is disgusting and they will try to capitalize off of nearly anything and BTS is just the new One Direction, just like One Direction was the new Beetles.

Same thing happens with all teen heartthrob. Look at Robert Pattinson, twilight fans were diehard. And now you barely hear a peep from any of the actors unless you’re still a dedicated fan. If you’re not still a fan, you don’t even know what some of those actors are doing right now. Taylor lautner was at the top of the world during that time, now he can’t get a solid acting job.

But if you think that this isn’t a fad, power to you. If you think that media isn’t just running this because it’s popular RIGHT NOW. Ok that’s your prerogative.

The person I was responding to and basing my convo on, is clearly attacking BTS and their worth, remaining far from factual. Weird, awkward? Either way, you clearly are using your own narrative too because nowhere did I say media and isn’t running this because it's popular. Of course, they are. I literally said they're out for views. THAT’S HOW MEDIA WORKS! They take from you, you take from them. BTS gets the deals, contracts, connections, fame, coin and exposure many artist, kpop or western, would kill for. Also, I don't get why you are writing paragraphs about this when i never said BTS will be there or popular forever. Again, you're the one making up your own narrative. Nothing is forever, but that doesn't mean BTS won't or can't have a fruitful career. I honestly don't get what you’re arguing with me because what i was arguing OP and the 2nd commentator's opinion that “BTS arent big/popular and “only good as Asian gimmicks” and that a gimmick is all they are to the media made a huge impact and a huge American audience that IS there for the music. The growing numbers and placements and achievements dont just fall from the sky.

Them being a fad or not is a completely different discussion. I do think they can go beyond “the fad”. They've been around for 7 years already and still going strong and growing. Media behaving like media wont stop them imo. Ppl said a lot of things - that poor nobodies like bts would never be able to fill up this or that venue, that bts would never get a grand prize, that they would never get an all-kill in the charts, they would never chart number one in the US, that they would never be asked to perform in US awards, but against all the odds they did - even with no help. And I have a feeling they will continue to. No one believed a small Korean group could become known and make thing happen in their own country, let alone across the globe. What is going beyond the “teen star” curse? Nothing. They won't stay together forever or stay in the limelight forever, but like the Beatles, I believe they will put a mark as iconic artists in the music industry and their lyrics will continue to touch ppl - even without the media.

Either way, this is all speculation, so lets put to it to rest.
