oh my god
personally I am of the opinion that vegans who are like “the way our food system currently works under capitalism on a large scale is exceptionally cruel to all animals including humans and is not sustainable, so I’m doing what I can to make the most ethical choices available to me about what I eat and encourage others to do the same” are generally very reasonable people who I agree with in spades. but vegans who seem to think human beings are not themselves animals who are ultimately also part of the food chain but instead some kind of other paternalistic higher entity that can never engage in ethical and sustainable hunting practices (and especially the fringe I’ve seen who think other carnivorous animal predators are also evil and need to be eliminated) are people I regard as foolish at best if not actively anti-indigenous and racist
You know the. You know the Femme Fatale "I grew up with 10 brothers so I know how to fight" character?
That's
That's Roy Mustang
Just the opposite.
Roy "I grew up with 10 sisters so I know how to disguise covert information reconnaissance as flirting" Mustang.
"I grew up with 10 sisters so I know how to weaponize my sexual charm to disarm others and win favor."
Roy led every higher-up to believe he was just a fuckboy and a manwhore in this for his own ego and that they shouldn't view him as any kind of violent revolutionary like "no sir I'm just a slut."
Roy Mustang.
I'm surprised I didn't say this in the original post but to specify: Roy Mustang grew up in a brothel, specifically he grew up adopted by a woman running a brothel where, specifically, all the women there are in the business of covert information reconnaissance by playing escort to important politicians.
Which. is an absolutely batshit primary character backstory to mention once, late in the series, and then immediately move on from.
And actually Hiromu Arakawa did it so well that every single fan interpretation of Roy Mustang for the FMA03 anime treated him as an honest to god man-slut. Bought his whole act hook line and sinker.
And you do, in fact, need to get further into the manga/Brotherhood to realize he is just acting like a slut because surely a true and honest hand-to-god slut like this guy wouldn't be overthrowing the government.
first post, hello! animated a lil' something to wish a certain yellow fella a (very, very belated) happy birthday :]
How to Get to Heaven from Belfast: S01E02
Whyyyyy is no one talking about the A++ young castttt
It actually took a while into the first episode of How To Get To Heaven from Belfast for me to understand the friendship the main 3 have. At first, I assumed all 4 women had fallen out of touch as adults, and that Greta had just kept in touch the least. But I turned out to be wrong in both directions! Greta was, like, basically disappeared, and Robyn, Saoirse, and Dara had stayed tight the whole time!
idk if the way they were introduced was meant to give that impression? For me, it evoked a trope I feel like I've seen a lot (i think mostly in American comedies?) where high school friends have grown apart and the story emphasizes how different they have become, and how little they feel they have in common now, implying they're no longer compatible as friends.
But Saoirse, Dara, and Robyn have stayed close despite building very different lives for themselves! 💕 They honestly don't understand each other very well in some ways, but they don't let that affect how much they care about each other! Like, maybe I'm jaded, or uncultured, but it feels rare and refreshing to see fictional adults (especially women) be friends in such a solid and genuine way.
I think my favorite scene so far, for that specific feeling, was when the three of them are sitting in Robyn's house and arguing with her husband! 😄 At first we just see and hear Robyn and Jim, but then the other two join in, politely and firmly backing Robyn up. It's been established that the three women live very different lives, have their own worlds, and this is Robyn's world– but it doesn't matter! Dara and Saoirse are there, unapologetic, taking up space, making themselves comfortable. Robyn even corrects Jim when she feels he's being disrespectful to her girls, making her home environment bend to accommodate them.
(I don't remember the exact exchange rn, I think he may not even have actually been being rude? But I think my point stands either way!) (As an advocate for child rights I do NOT think Robyn is a good mother, but she is a really good character and a pretty good friend! Also she's, like, a very average and normal mother imo? Lacking in a way that is very common.)
Dara can tell Robyn's highlights are less than a day old. Saoirse and Robyn are completely caught up on Dara's lesbian drama. Robyn and Dara are going to wear matching frocks in Saoirse's wedding, even though she clearly did not ask them to be bridesmaids and isn't really interested in planning the wedding. Robyn knows how many months of the year Saoirse spends in either London or Belfast.
They argue and criticize and judge each other, but none of that strikes deep enough to hit the core of their friendship. Dara is a practicing Catholic while the other two seem to be atheists. Robyn is particular about her appearance in a way that the other two completely clash with. Saorise is a snob who looks down on exactly the kind of people her best friends are. ("then I'd be someone who lives in Belfast") They've got different goals and values.
And none of it matters!! None of it affects how important they are to each other, or how much they fundamentally trust and respect each other. (I specify fundamentally, because, superficially, there is a lot of distrust and disrespect happening!)
idk, I guess I hadn't realized how much I'd internalized the idea that we can only be close with people we're more similar to than not? And I appreciate this story for asserting otherwise.
I’ve also seen criticism of this show being “millennial core” and the music being cringey but like the characters are 38, they are millennials, it would be a bit weird if they were solving a murder to the dulcet sounds of tate mcrae.
Also it also deals with them as teens so why wouldn’t they include the music of their childhood in the early 2000s

Child Dwarves - With or without beards?

Baby Dwarves - With or without beards?

Without beards
They shed their baby beards to make room for their adult beards. Like with baby teeth.
i do not “delete sentences” when they start “hindering the plot” i COPY PASTE THEM into a SEPARATE DOC made just for keeping all my USELESS LINES that i will also NEVER USE so therefore i should JUST DELETE THEM but i DONT because id FEEL BAD if i did
You don't actually have to kill your darlings. You can just put them in the oubliette #myoubliette
i am LOATH to compare this to derry girls because i think they should be treated as entirely separate entities BUT. what i love about the characters is that you can see how they map onto each other - there's a load of claire and orla in dara, a LOT of erin and a bit of james in saoirse and a Fuckton of michelle in robyn <3
why is no one talking about saoirse and greta in how to get to heaven from belfast…they are literally the new jackieshauna. homoerotic besties that share fucked up experiences as teens and then adult greta dies* and adult saoirse has to reckon with that…WHY ARE YALL NOT ALL WATCHING HOW TO GET TO HEAVEN FROM BELFAST
