14 Lessons Learned from 2014
1. No matter how much a heartbreak hurts, never stop loving as hard as you can. You’re going to fall in love again and again and again. Do not fight it. Let it consume you.
2. You are not weak, so do not let people perceive you as such. They will take advantage of you as often as possible if you neglect to show your teeth. Bite, claw, and scream until you are respected.
3. The best people will come into your life when you let yourself be a free spirit. There are so many amazing souls left to meet, but do not forget those with whom you are already intertwined.
4. The world will not see eye to eye with you. It is your responsibility not to falter when everyone is intent on tripping you up. Stand tall with your beliefs and shout them to the sky.
5. Do not be afraid to seek help. The prettiest flowers cannot blossom on their own. You need to be watered. You need to be nurtured.
6. Spontaneity will create the best memories. Empty your savings on a vacation. Climb a mountain. Take a bus you’ve never taken. Kiss a boy before he kisses you.
7. You will make the biggest impact while you are young. Let their jaws drop at your grace and maturity. The oldest people often have the most left to learn, so teach them.
8. Traveling is the best medicine for your heart. Each piece of nature and each face you pass will teach you something different. Open yourself up to the adventures of this planet. You have so much left to see.
9. You have control of your own life. You do not have to succumb to anybody. Drop those who drown your smiles in tears.
10. Do not let sadness win. Laying on the floor for hours on end will do nothing to elevate your mood. Do not forget that so many people love you. Pick yourself up and let them care for you.
11. Responsibility is important, but you are still young. Experiment with adulthood. Drink until the ceiling spins. Have sex whenever feeling strikes.
12. People are going to use you. It will hurt, but it will teach you to be wary. Grow from this, and learn to spot deceit the next time around.
13. Keep discovering your passions and let them guide you forward. The more things you are interested in, the greater your experiences will be.
14. Do what makes you and you alone the happiest. You cannot build others up by letting yourself wither away. Take time for yourself. Do not forget to breathe, breathe, breathe.
