cassie mckay headcanons (in my head, anyway)
c/w: substance abuse, addiction
• only child but a total daddy’s girl, absolutely loves her dad, gets her kind side from him
• grew up hanging out at skate parks and movie theatres (has definitely paid a strange man to get her into an r-rated film)
• was on her school basketball team as a teenager. definitely could’ve got a scholarship if she applied herself.
• her letterboxd top four (if she had one) would be: sound of metal (2019), fried green tomatoes (1991), mid90s (2018) and empire records (1995). the last one reminds her of her childhood and she watches it with harrison every rex manning day.
• watched beautiful boy (2018) once and never again.
• is weirdly good at drawing and arts and crafts, doodles and draws a lot when she’s with harrison, everybody thinks it’s ridiculously good. most of the pitt has been idly sketched at some point.
• not an avid reader but loves the tranquility of bookshops
• had a bad boyfriend at the beginning of highschool, ended up isolated and barely graduating. became reckless and a user through him. this was the start of her downfall.
• was frequently in and out of ERs during her twenties, whether it was trying to score a prescription or been brought in after injuring herself. became pretty well known amongst the senior pitt doctors.
• definitely had an inkling she was gay before highschool but could never quite put a word on it. all her best friends in school were guys. she still has a group she keeps in touch with.
• she still doesn’t put a label on it now. she’s already got the love of her life (vic)
• has known dana since she was twenty-five. dana has seen every version of her: user, manic, rehab, relapse, pregnant, married, divorce. they’ll know each other their entire lives.
• dana is the one that took her in when she got made homeless. benji didn’t like it but they became great friends and still are.
• said some truly nasty things to people when she was high or drunk. some things that still keep her up at night, even if they’ve been forgiven
• becomes an advocate for addict-care. does a lot of research into medically treating those that are sober so their medication doesn’t spark a potential relapse. has her own plan of action written into her charts.
• has never left the united states. if she could pick a place, she’d like to go to ireland or somewhere green and peaceful.
• her favourite animals are foxes. she knows they’re disease-ridden but she feels a deep kinship with them. if she ever sees one on the street, it’s like seeing an old friend.
• has had heart surgery because of her addiction. there’s a scar on her sternum from it.
• chad was actually a very good part of her life. his inability to grow up is where it failed.
• harrison being taken away from her is the final nail in the coffin to getting sober.
• her addiction got her disowned at one point. her dad shut the door in her face and it’s the worst thing he’s ever done.
• been to rehab four times.
• loves being on the ptmc street team, she sees a lot of her old haunts and friends there. it helps to look after them, even if it’s just a little bit.
• has lost three childhood friends to addiction. she has their initials tattooed on her calf.
• huge alanis fan. would’ve gone to karaoke but tends to stay away from bars. anything 90s she loves.
• vic managed to snag her oasis tickets and she nearly cried
• has always tried to stay kind, even if alcohol made her truly bitter at times, because that’s the core of who she is.
