of all the bars, i visited, this one appears to have been especially tailored for me. people there are quiet -- melancholic, even. they stagnate in the swirling smoke of their cigarettes like convicts, desperate victims that were pushed to the darkness. but even if the bar is an elegant place, they are not driven away. they respect their right to oblivion. it is a place where they can DISAPPEAR.

“Hi! Roasted turkey breast, half a pound, as thin as you can slice it. But I don’t know what cheese I want… What do you recommend?”
he immediately sets to work, expertly working the slicer to produce nearly paper-thin cuts of the turkey in question. there’s a silence that sets in as he mulls over her question, and it’s only once he’s packaging the meat that he replies. ❛ HMM. with roasted turkey, you’ll wuh-want something white... you could try p-- provolone, or swiss, with some pesto. ❜

his logic is flawed. it always has been. he wants to stabilize himself, yet turns to the bottle. he wants to forget, yet spends his nights reminiscing with old photographs. he wants to tell his daughter the truth, and yet, he spins more lies. sometimes, he feels as though he’s beyond hope. but more than anything, he feels the cracks in his fragile skin spreading, shattering what’s left of this tattered husk of a man and giving way to another. and he doesn’t know WHICH ONE HE HATES MORE.
