HANGMAN'S BIRTHDAY BASH SMASH 2026

AN: I was this close to not being able to do it this year, but then I realized I can work through the theme and I am no quitter dang it! This is more of a drabble than anything but yeah, happy birthday hangman!

Adam never learned how to properly sing the same notes he strummed out on his barely used guitar. They came out crooked and strained out most of the time, out of habit of not wanting eyes to be on him for long. Those notes only came out for those he knew long enough to not leave him all burned up in the face with shame.

That list got shorter and shorter until he found himself with more glares around him than curious stares. Crooked singing became humming, and humming was safer. It vibrated his chest when he went low enough at notes he couldn't quite reach and the high notes just fades into the back of his throat. It stayed with him and didn't reach past anyone who didn't need to hear.

Songs were still learned despite the lyrics not being spoken out loud. Old and new ones that he heard around him, a mix of songs that he knows is not his type but the people he used to trust replayed it so much that it stuck enough to ask while looking anywhere else. They were only played through headphones that he didn't like to wear often but it was a learned habit from his environment.

He doesn't know when the notes started coming back out of him. He don't remember what made it pop up from somewhere deep in his buzzing chest, or if his body just got tired of holding it in like everything else for the past year. He only noticed them when he heard the dreaded sounds of laughter surrounding him. His face began to heat up, already ready to walk away from the tiny crowd of two he accidentally had on him.

Then he got rushed and then smushed between the two into staying, the laughter coming through words of joyful shock.
