This is an "Aoi Tori (Blue Bird) Pen Dish" from the February 1951 supplement of the magazine "Shōjo (Girls)." Featuring illustrations by Katsuzi Matsumoto, when the upper portion is folded horizontally backward and placed on a desk, it creates a diagonal space. The pen dish is designed with cutouts around the edges near the girl's illustration on top, allowing pens to sink into them for comfortable use.
giles & spike // beating up a cop
I am rewatching Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It’s my second time watching it. I am watching it both on my own (in season 6) and with my partner (in season 4). And I just love the way Spike develops love for Buffy. The way he cares for Dawn and looks out for her even when Buffy isn’t around anymore just speaks so much about the love he feels for Buffy. When love is so big for someone that you care about who they love, it is truly beautiful. I’ve done a lot more parenting of a sibling since the first time I watched it and I find myself relating to Buffy more as a result and that weight of that. To have someone you trust to help you shoulder some burdens (like protecting Dawn), there is very little that beats that feeling. Someone who wants to take things off your plate. Someone who loves wants to help you carry your responsibilities and baggage. I see that with Spike and it’s beautiful.
Buffy loves him too in her own ways. She may not realize it herself, but her actions say it. What she verbal says doesn’t align with her actions. She does trust Spike with the most precious thing to her, her sister. Though she may claim otherwise. There are countless other examples of it. But when you’re someone carrying so much weight with responsibilities that you only focus on that, you don’t take the time to evaluate your own feelings. Being in survival mode makes it hard to to sit with feelings. Big feelings. Confusing feelings.
When I first starting having feelings for my now partner, I already knew him for several years. It was confusing AF. I had to really sit with myself and think about what I wanted. It took time. I think this is the time period my partner refers to as us dating but I just didn’t realize it. Cause I did start to rely on him for things and he wanted to help shoulder my responsibilities. It’s interesting to see parallels in a fictional relationship now that I’m in one, to my own. I think it makes total sense why people love the Spuffy ship and why my partner and I both love Spike.
