is there anyplace i can access your zelda campaign stuff? i was planning on running a 5e campaign myself that was partially zelda inspired so it would be loads of help if you were comf w sharing!
Aw thanks for the interest! I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for but here's all the info I can think of off the dome
We played with standard 2014 D&D 5e rules, with everything pretty much being surface level reskins, like using rupees instead of gold, calling chicken's cuccos, etc, or magic items just named after something in the Zelda universe. The races, most of the magical items and monsters I pulled from this DandDwiki page, and these homebrew monster manuals someone made on Reddit (the first link requires you to include the underscore at the end of the url or else it doesn't open). Many boss fights were honestly an effort to keep the theme of their fights faithful to their games, rather than trying to translate their mechanics perfectly. (ex; the Goht fight from Majora's Mask! I made two of them for action-economy sake, and had them both running constantly in the outer ring in one direction at a pace faster than the rest of the party could keep up with normally, and littered the area with traps they could set off to slow the bosses (or themselves.)
Aside from these two posts, most maps I used were either purchased online through patreon or elsewhere. In particular, I found many of 2-Minute Tabletop's maps to really suit the colourful vibe of the Zelda universe. If paying isn't an option, there are plenty of free maps available on the r/battlemaps, many of which are Zelda inspired with a quick search!
Something my players enjoyed and really sold the Zelda-like vibe was making little mini-games for them to earn money while they were in town. The two they seemed to like the most was Squid Hunt from Windwaker (which is just Battleship, but with squids), and the Treasure Chest minigame from OoT.
This is only useful for a VTT, but something else I personally really enjoyed was making the landing page of the Roll20 game a "file select", which helped them track what session they were on, what important macguffin's they'd collected, and tracked what level they were by using heart containers.
Other little miscellaneous Zelda-core things that sold the setting:
Finding Tingle floating in a zone somewhere, selling the PCs a map of wherever they were going to next
hidden Fairy Fountains within dungeons that would let them take a short rest and gain the benefits of a long rest
masks from Majora's Mask with a varied range of rarities and prices
And obviously, littering the world with other familiar npcs!
wow this ended up being way more long winded than anticipated. Feel free to use anything I've shared here, and tweak it to how you see fit for your campaign! I hope this was somewhat useful or inspiring to you, and anyone else that wants to run something similar :)
