@sbevem
its so scary making plans with new friends. what if i suggest something stupid and we have a terrible time and they find out im a fraud and not a real human being
Reblog daily for health and prosperity.
I feel like simply calling JK Rowling a transphobe isn't strong enough anymore. Like. This is not your grandpa calling you by your deadname at a restaurant kind of transphobic. This is her wanting to eradicate all trans people (with an extra special hatred towards trans women specifically). This is her trying just that by personally funding transphobic hate groups with millions to push around laws in the UK. It is not hyperbolic to call her a dangerous, genocidal maniac.
It's not about cancelling a problematic writer. It's about literally trying to save lives by denying her as much money and power as possible.
I miss when ads were a single click and then theyâre gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesnât even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.
I hate advertising. I hate that you canât do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that thereâs nothing I can do about it.
Hey hey, as a librarian, can I just say donât pace yourself at the library. I get a lot of customers saying âoh I shouldnât get too many books out at onceâ but like you should!!!! Max out your card, take everything we have on a subject youâre interested in, make a book fort in your home. We love that shit! It doesnât matter if you read them or not; just take them for an adventure and bring them back whenever theyâre due!
For public libraries, one of the ways we secure funding year to year is lending. Governments donât want to fund more books if theyâre not being used and the way we measure use is by issues. Regardless of whether you read it or not, whether you have it for a day or a month, if you issue it to your library card, we get the stats! It makes the library look good!
Help your local library; get books out even if you know you canât read them all!
Also, anything you remove from a shelf to look at to see if you want to read it or if you pull out a bunch to use for homework/research, please leave them on the table youâre sitting at. Some libraries have carts left around to put them on. These count towards usage statistics as well.
Also, donât be shy about asking for help. This can be done online, too!
Many libraries have âlib-guidesâ, from âI like this author/kind of book, who should I read nextâ to a specific topic that is covered by books, online articles, and any number of related material the library may have (photographic collection, links to larger libraries or museums)
Also thereâs usually some service that is related to what used to be known as inter-library loan. Basically, if your local library doesnât have it, they might be able to borrow it from another library.
Always check to see if your nearest college/university/academic library is open to public browsing. You may not be able to borrow the item, but you can sit there and read it.
I fucking love libraries
should be able to leave kudos on scientific studies. i liked your paper dude keep at it
sorry, Dr. Dude
Dude et. al.
need y'all to know that most academics have publicly searchable email addresses and this not only makes their day but they can put nice emails in their giant packets for applying for jobs or tenure. "hi i read your paper for a class and it was very helpful, im at xyz college and the class is blah with professor blah" is sufficient and ENORMOUSLY helpful
It seems that, once again, when you can't kudos, commenting is the way to go
kitten fever is worse than baby fever because a kitten is way easier to obtain than a baby so it's more dangerous
there's probably a better way of wording the last part but like come on it doesn't matter if we're all the same to fascists
No I genuinely don't think there's any better wording of the last part
They semi-cancelled Timothee Chalamet for simply saying he found opera and ballet boring, by the way.
How does Hollywood work these days?
Being a bit of a naive, foolish young man and (wrongfully) calling opera and ballet irrelevant?
âYou must apologise immediately! No Oscar for you.â
Acknowledging you stole terrified teenage girls from their bedrooms?
âEh, you get a pass.â
Kidnapping teenage girls seems kind of worse than being stupid and uncultured, in the grand scheme of things.
âWell, Tim is dating a Kardashian sister.â
Embarrassing as it is, this other man admitted to war crimes.

This is the best tag I've ever received on a post, I think
I wasnât crazy about this piece so I wasnât intending on publicly posting it again, but it keeps getting stolen every five minutes so I figured Iâd put it here so people at least know who to attribute the original thing to lmao

ITS NOT A PHOTO????????
i hope everything works out in the end because i am so so scared
To put it very bluntly.
You will always make a better impact helping people who need it than trying to hurt people you think deserve it.
