so sorry but no, fanfics don't count (even if they're novel length). you can define "read" however you'd like -- physcial book, ebook, audiobook, etc. and it's up to you whether you count dnfs!
is god is opens like "hello. Here are two precious sweet little girls. A little boy has just called one of them ugly. Her sister is going over, and she's beating that mean boy bloody, before she goes back to hug her, getting blood on her pretty little dress."
And that's a big piece of it. Two girls. Softness. Meanness, most often from men. Anger. Blood. And over and over, love, tender and violent.
“Is God Is” was spectacular. An indictment of an intracommunity system that props up, enables, and sanitizes the reputation of abusers. God and her children were seen as disposable, growing pains for a Man who never actually grew. Children he abandoned and abused will still defend him over the women in their lives. Grown men will cower in fear of him and never seek their own justice. The victims will create hierarchies, decide empathy on a case by case basis. And even knowing all that he’s done, for a second you might even believe him.

speaking of is god is, i love showing excerpts from the play to intro playwriting students because without fail it inspires at least one of them to try some adventures in typography
Everything I'm hearing about this is good...
Is God Is (2026) dir. Aleshea Harris
One of the most glaring themes in Is God Is is the way his sons fight tooth and nail to uphold his tyranny. The fight to uphold the patriarchy they are bound to inherit and benefit from, despite the destruction it does to their own mothers and sisters.
Ezekiel didn’t even know his father, but he was prepared to commit murder in his name. Because that’s his God. All he knows of him is the altar. Just like the biblical story of Ezekiel, he believes his dad is coming back/there will be restoration. Despite being so clearly exiled. And he’s ready to kill about it. While Riley was choking out Anaya, he made sure to let her know that he didn’t care what his brother did. The twin brothers probably knew their mother was being abused but their alliance is with the patriarch.

This energy though
The amount of transphobes that just don't know anything about swords or fencing is fucking killing me. Firstly, alot of fencing competitions are gender neutral. Secondly even if someone who did have a massive strength advantage entered a fencing competition that still wouldn't help them too much because a duel with swords is very rarely decided on strength. It doesn't matter how strong you are, if your opponent hits you that's a point for them. Fencing is won entirely by fucking knowing how to fence, shockingly.
Also, anybody commenting "Why is her hair greasy. She needs to wash her hair" needs to step outside the house like atleast once in their life. Girl just won a fencing competition and she was wearing one of these 👇 the whole time
SHE WAS FUCKING SWEATY

I'm going to need the brave journalists at the BBC to knock their big brains together and try to figure out if there were any other important influences on Brianna Ghey's murder that might be worth mentioning beyond "social media makes children violent >:("
