As this is from the minds of #virtuafighter the fighting is baffling. Pulling off the vast moveset becomes frustrating as gangs surround Ryo stopping him mid attack meaning that button mashing is neccessary to survive and merrits the comparisons to the #yakuza franchise that would follow. Ryo can practice his moveset at home with his friend or alone which is supposed to make him stronger akin to exp points but i honestly don't think its implemented well or at all. This crosses over to the controls in general, Ryo controls like a tank with many actions performed in outdated design. Of all the things i wish they would've changed for the HD remaster it was an updated control scheme. In a nutshell, nothing really happens in #shenmue that makes me recommend the game. In 2000, the idea was that 14 other chapters would come with progress carrying over such as the episodic #telltalegames or #masseffect which is why the micro is so heavily emphasized and in retrospect given a pass especially compared to its sequel. Personally, it's that idea and nostalgia that makes venturing into this game great. Prophecy that mystical elements will occur, the revelation of the Nippon mafia and the revenge plot have remained compelling. The musical score especially #shenhua has been with me since then. It's laughable, but i always crack a smile listening to the english voice cast. And its a fun journey visiting Yokosuka and hitting the arcade to play games that wouldn't exist in that time. It was the most ambitious thing ever but like the console it was on, the dream would end too quickly. Side Note: when the remaster was released there were glitches and scenes where only the audio would play out which seems to have been patched up since i didn't encounter any. Unanimously THE #dreamcast title. Legendary #sega developer #yusuzuki put his #virtuafighter into an #rpg blender to create what was supposed to be a 15 chapter saga unlike anything out there. #shenmue stars Ryo Hazuki who comes home one winter day to witness the murder of his daddy. Wanting revenge, he packs his handy dandy notebook and begins searching for the man... which is what the game is. 70% of the game has you investigating clues to get a step closer to the mysterious Lan Di. I believe this was the first fully fledged world in gaming as the micro is heavily emphasized throughout. Yokosuka 1980's is painfully recreated down to the weather, no character model is *doubled and have a set schedule, and events may or may not occur depending on the players choices. This is YOUR journey of revenge. This reliance on realism is a detriment as well. Main story events will require a set amount of time to pass before they can trigger so a person that wants to experience the story solely will have to be patient. Quick Time Events (QTE's) make their debut or at least branding recognition. The purpose to make scenes cinematic requiring player input are constant and varied throughout the adventure and contribute to progression or require a do over if the event is highly important. #20 years ago on this day, I became a #gamer and indulged into the gaming industry owning one of the greatest consoles. Before only licensed or mascot games piqued my interest. #marvelvscapcom was the primary reason i wanted a #dreamcast badly, but the vast library spanning multiple genres kept me entertained throughout its short life span. The #vmu was a neat memory card that could be used in multiple ways during games. Online was at the forefront out of the box! I owned the VGA cable to display on my high rez computer monitor experiencing some degree of progressive scan making games look superior. I would take my console to school or other peeps places to play a great deal of multiplayer games. I think the fact that so many games came out is the primary reason the machine is remembered fondly. The looming #playstation2 and its #dvd capabilities was felt. Many people simply wanted that machine instead. There is also #sega all of the games they released had a final ditch effort. The company had fucked up with the #32x #cd #saturn but they were putting their all into this machine's software. All their games were familiar but had zany ideas such as arcade hit #crazytaxi party puzzler #chuchurocket spouting #seaman rollerscating #jetgrindradio underwater #eccothedolphin musical #spacechannel5 and realistic #shenmue which remain special due to that uniqueness. There are machines that have changed the industry with far more innovative games but the soul truly burns within this white box maintaining it being my favorite console. Camera issues aside. #viewtifuljoe and #bayonetta prepped me to this antiquated gameplay experience. Only the bare minimum to get through the game is explained with many techniques left to be discovered. Repeated playthroughs are recommended to get used to this playstyle. The mart must be visited for abilities and equipment that will be helpful. Combat can be difficult as positioning, timing, and meter management are essential to taking down a variety of enemies effectively. Most enemies have multiple ways to destroy them leading to some gratifying moments when new situations present themselves. The boss battles are THE highlight as everything comes together with these behemoths and the set pieces associated. It honestly is hard to talk about given the fact that these moments HAVE to be experienced. The thesis statement of overcoming impossible odds is perfectly presented in these moments as the #wonderful101 "you can do it" attitude and musical score accompaniment have the most FUCK YEAH moments. No game has been able to match or exceed the levels of insanity this game provides. There are problems and elements that would require major modifications before being ported and while a sequel is possible, i don't think the game would sell. Like the #wiiu this is a game that mechanically and emotionally cannot be replicated. The biggest problem is the camera and its isometric view. It can be zoomed in or out but at times depends on whatever stage and occasion the game throws at you. Depth perception can be a bitch as platforming or projectiles become prominent throughout. It becomes problamatic when battles start as enemies can be off screen or displayed in a way where attacks aren't visible as well as when the screen is crowded with effects and characters. Even more frustrating is when the action shifts from the tv to the #wiiu Gamepad where the camera is a gyroscopic mess! This element creates asymmetric gameplay where the characters are on the Gamepad prompting things to occur on the TV. This is mostly fueled by #platinumgames scoring system that gives the feeling of cheap gameplay. Another camera issue regards Platinum's obsession with shooting segments of which this game features the most given it's not a part of the core gameplay. The video game industry died in 2013 for me. Multiplayer shooters, yearly sequels, and linear single player games are the AAA games people tout. Studios closed, merged or were bought. Even my favorite company was selling their "next gen" console with a simplistic looking 2D game headlining it! Enter #platinumgames ' The #wonderful101 . Evoking the Super Sentai aka #mightymorphinpowerrangers this colorful endeavor has you controling a group of heroes with the power to merge totem-style into weapons to take on an alien invasion. This is the only #wiiu game where I feel comfortable using the Gamepad than the pro controller as symbols are drawn or motioned out with the right stick to create the weapons or form structures to proceed. A fun detail is the ability to save citizens by temporally recruiting them into the team as the W101 only has about 40 heroes at the start with other members needing to be seeked throughout the levels. The scenario writers and localization team do a fantastic job of making this tropey concept feel fresh with dialogue and situational comedy. The soundtrack is adequately used giving the sense of urgency and heroism reminiscent of Sentai TV shows. I'm surprised that this time about 5 different parts of the downtown area were converted into attractions that didn't seem to require one to have actually bought a pass to #comiccon #2019 including a cool #detectivepikachu bus ride(?) Only saw that as i was rushing to work so didnt manage to visit nor snag pics. Also heard that there was an awesome #batman museum in another city part of #sandiego . The latest iteration has everything that came before. Traditional #drmario #drluigi mode and the touchscreen mode are all here and play well. The only addition is a mode that has powerups to help clear the playfield or create chaos in vs. mode. It reminds me of #puzzlebobble (which i prefer over this series) without the effort or skill that game has as these blocks are on set paths. There is no 3D. Along with the #wiiu version this also has an online mode except no one is playing which is why i forgot to mention it. After the #nes version, this was an easy #gaming #marathon which i like since I have things to do. #drmario64 for the #nintendo64 is overpriced, and #drmarioonlinerx for the #wii is now inaccessible since #wiiware is dead. This makes #drluigi the latest console version of this puzzler. The traditional game is here with 2P support amd plays fine. Taking advantage of the #wiiu gamepad is a touchscreen version that serves as the template for #drmarioworld which was originally a neat unlockable in the #brainage series on #ds The meat of this version is a mode where all puzzle pieces form the letter L... for #luigi ... GET IT!!! Having reached level 51 i still don't know how to feel about this. Most of the time the pieces were dominated by two colors aligning themselves to be inserted easily into the playfield to accomplish the goal. Only when I wasn't paying attention did i manage to fuck up. But on occasion,the piecies would be composed of multiple colors where it is not only difficult to react on time but to align them in a way for them to connect which feels a bit cheap.
