The new episodes are an eerily accurate portrayal of life with Borderline Personality Disorder.

The way Steven acts when apart from Connie is very similar to how someone with BPD can act when not being treated for their disorder.

Any extended separation begins to tear at you, making you doubt yourself and the validity of your feelings. You break down and reach out to people whom you know don't want to speak to you, but you can't help it. The communication becomes more lopsided and intense as time goes on. You go through phases of extreme depression and longing, followed by flares of unbearable anxiety.

Steven managed to come to terms with his actions and Connie forgave him, but it doesn't always work this way. Sometimes the damage done to either or both parties is too great. Sometimes people move on faster than you. Sometimes you really are left behind and forgotten.

As someone who has struggled with BPD for a while, it's been emotionally difficult to watch these episodes. You see in Steven all the choices you could have made, and wonder if his happy ending could have been your own, if only you'd slowed down.

Accurate depictions of mental illness in Steven Universe are a very important part of why I love this show so much.

Growing up fat, you get made fun of for everything you do, even basic shit like eating and laughing and breathing are funny when you do it because youre fat! And its so hard to not carry that with you as you get older, like I’m still embarassed to eat or dance in front of people or smile in pictures and its ridiculous and I hate it and I wish I was treated with more humanity

MFW I spend two weeks straight editing a 15+ minute SU meme compilation, upload it to reddit, only to have it be bypassed massively in favor of shitposts of people drawing characters using only their left hands or something, THEN going on reddit the next day and seeing the frontpage full of posts complaining about the lack of quality content.
