âIâm not who you think I amâ
best tv/movie characters:
[123/??] Ari Millen as Rudy in Orphan Black (2014-??)
âł âWeâre brothers. Weâre taught to share.â
Castor headcanon request: ways in which Coady breaks her boys' faith in her, and who they find better feminine/maternal influences in
Hi! As this isnât specified about which boys you want or if you want my head canons on Castorâs who we havenât seen yet Iâm going to answer this from a Rudy and Mark perspective if thats okay :)
- It starts when Mark firsts get assigned to the Ranch. He watches Prolethean women holding their small children, smiling at them, and hugging them whenever the child asks for it. When he asks Gracie why the children arenât being trained for combat she tells him that theyâre far too young for it, that a six year old canât be expected to hold a gun and kill someone for the sake of their family. He starts to wonder why his mother never felt the same.
- After an accident involving Seth that leaves Rudy with the scar down his face Coady screams at the pair of them for hours. Belittling Seth for his stupidity and Rudy for almost costing them the mission after choosing to jump in front of his brother instead of using the diversion as a means to complete the task. After she dismisses a distraught Seth, telling him that heâs a sorry excuse for a soldier and has no use to topside if he canât sort himself out, Rudy stays and confronts her. She smiles at him and says that he did good by wanting to save his brother but that next time if he doesnât want to disappoint people that he should finish the mission before helping his brothers. He later finds Seth sobbing underneath his bed and crawls under with him, wrapping his arms around his distraught brother until the boy is calm enough to be brought out and go to dinner. Rudy wonders if the men that guard them had the same problems when they were eight.
- After Rudy discovers what happened to Parsons his faith in his mother begins to wane. Although she tries to explain to him that it was necessary in finding a cure for them he ignores her, horrified to think that one of his brothers has been strapped to a table, alone, suffering for months without him realising and that it was Helena that saved him. This is the first time Rudy starts to think of the Leda clones not as targets but allies.
- Things start to change after he gets taken in by the Hendrixâs. Helena stitches his arm and sings Ukranian songs whenever the pain in his head gets too bad, sometimes calling him a baby whenever he winces but he can sense it is in good humour. Her voice doesnât have the same sting to it as Motherâs did.Â
- Alison, although clearly nervous, brings him home made food. Offering to help him sit up though he declines. When heâs finally well enough and trusted to leave the bedroom he watches her hug her children, smiling and laughing whenever they show her something they have done or made. Sheâs always touching them, most of the time she doesnât even realise it, yet Rudy notices every slight brush of their hair, every tap on the nose and kiss on the top of their heads and starts to wonder why his Mother was never that tactile.Â
- The first time he drops his head hesitantly onto Alisonâs shoulder, wrapping his arms around her waist, like Oscar does she jumps a mile high. She quickly calms down enough to start stroking his hair, giving him a small smile of encouragement when he finally lets go to let her get on with what she was doing.
- He watches Helena as she plays with Oscar and Gemma, teaching them fun games that to the average civilian would seem harmless yet to Rudy he can see that she is training them, teaching the duo how to find things quickly, how to hide without anyone being able to find them, how to find their attackers weak spots and utilise this to their advantage. Rudy had a similar training when he was much younger. Yet whilst his training made him and his brothers cry Gemma and Oscarâs are filled with laughter as the pair wrestle playfully with the older woman on the floor, only half listening to her instructions to âchoke herâ as they finally get her over onto her back. Helena notices him watching them and orders them to attack him too, watching them all carefully but happily as he pretends to fall and get overrun by the harmless kids. Nodding encouragingly whenever he looks her way for guidance.Â
- When Mark and Gracie also move into the Hendrixâs for safety whilst the neolutionists make their move, the boys begin to learn together how a mother is supposed to treat her children.Â
- They watch as Sarah cuddles Kira and calls her monkey, the way she stares at her daughter as if she is the most beautiful thing on this earth and if Rudy is aware how she deliberately makes sure that he is no where near Kira alone he doesnât comment on it. A mother should protect her child from the monster that tried to hurt it.
- Siobhan is the first to truly take on the mothering role of the two. It starts slowly as her distrustful gaze on the pair begins to take on a fondness that she only has with her children (adopted or otherwise).
- She begins to call Mark âpoppetâ much to his surprise and everyone elseâs amusement, making sure that heâs feeling okay and that heâs had enough to eat.Â
- She changes Markâs arm dressing as often as she can, checking to make sure itâs healing well. Whilst heâs been trained in medical care from an early age and knows that itâs doing fine Mark never stops her, secretly enjoying her mother hening. When she approaches Rudy to do the same he snarls and disappears for half the day. Itâs Gemma that reveals that heâs hiding under the bed of the spare room and is refusing to talk, Mark tells everyone to leave him for a while but he too eventually disappears. Sounds of heavy things hitting walls and yelling can be heard before everything goes quiet. When Helena goes up to make sure that they havenât killed each other she finds the pair curled around each other in the corner of the room asleep, she tucks a blanket over them before closing the door quietly behind her. The next day Rudy refuses to leave his brothers side and the pair seem closer yet refuse to speak of what happened upstairs.
- Siobhan buys the boys clothes so that they can finally change into something else. Mark gets changed instantly, constantly expressing his gratitude and showing them off to whoever will listen, having never had someone buy him something that was for his own enjoyment instead of something for a mission.Â
- Rudy initially refuses to acknowledge the clothes, glaring at anyone who isnât Gemma or Oscar who tries to approach him.Â
- The next day he comes downstairs dressed in one of the new outfits, unsure of how to react when Felix and Sarah begin to wolf whistle and to the compliments people give him. When he finds Mrs S talking to Gracie in the kitchen he thanks her, kissing her cheek before dragging Helena off to sparr in the garage. Mark reveals that it was their mother who used to buy them all their clothes. The next morning Donnie finds a pile of ashes on the driveway and a singed scarf, he cleans it up and doesnât mention it to anyone.Â
- Through Siobhanâs guidance and the odd nudge by Sarah, Helena and Alison the boys begin to shape and change into men instead of weapons. They start to develop their own personality traits and skills that arenât to do with being efficient at killing.Â
Thank you so much for this, this was super fun to do! Let me know if you want any more! :D
Any headcanons about Rudy's relationship w/ each of his brothers?
> Mark - Mark is one of the eldest of the Castor Clones and quickly rose through the ranks thanks to his calm nature and need to follow orders. Whilst Rudy respected him greatly he often found Markâs lack of enthusiasm for the âbloodierâ jobs they had to do annoying and believed him to be weak. Despite this, the two were quite close, with Mark often bestowing words of wisdom onto Rudy and cheering him up whenever he was punished for messing up.
> Seth - From a young age Seth idolised Rudy, following him around everywhere and wanting to be just like him despite being slower and less cunning. Rudy would often keep an eye on Seth and help him keep up with his brothers, making sure that he never fell behind or was labelled as defective. It was because of Seth that Rudy got the scar on his face, protecting his brother from some attack that Seth overlooked or was too slow to move out of the way of.Â
Thanks for asking! I hope these are okay, I could only really do Mark and Seth as I havenât seen enough of Miller and Parsonâs to get a proper read on them :)
Dismissal. It was so easy for his brother, wasnât it? Just down a bite of burger, take over the world with your devil-may-care attitude and forget that other people actually give a shit about things. Seth felt like he could cry, but he didnât. Instead, he retreated. Retreated into the cavern of his mind, into a jaw that he flexed and wiggled to try and bring himself back into his head. He saw flashes before his eyes, heard the voices of the people who gave him equations, situations, and asked him if they were true or false.
Some brothers share a bed. All incest is wrong.
Conclusion, some brothers loved their brothers too fucking much.Â
True.
Seth got up, his head stinging, the heel of his palm digging in, beating, thumping, rhythmic and wholly not working. He was glitching. Glitching, glitching, and glitching, and what could he do about it? Seth was going to leave his brother soon, and the only thing he felt was under-fucking-appreciated.Â
âI believe what I see, brother.â
Silence. He sat there. Munching on his burger and fries. His mind drifting in and out. Thoughts, weaving in and out. He did care for Seth. Much more than he cared for himself. He could say what he wanted. Think what he wanted, but at the end of the day. It was always going to be Seth. Rudy could be a bastard - he was a bastard. He could put on this mask and pretend he didnât care, pretend to be this cold, unfeeling monster, but deep down he did.
His eyes grew ever wider, at the movements coming from the other side of the couch. Inclining, his head to the side, his dark optics fell upon his double. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. He knew that look. Those movements. They were the same thing that indicated that Parsons was glitching. NO. NO. NO. This couldnât be. This couldnât happen now. Not now.Â
âSeth.... Shit!â
Tossing the burger into the bag and the bag onto the ground, he got up and hurried over to where Seth was. Grabbing his arms and pulling him closer to him. Shaking his head a little, his lower lip, trembling; slightly, he dug his teeth into the side of his cheek. So, hard that he broke skin and blood began to pull in from the wound and fill his mouth. Ignoring the feeling and coppery taste in his mouth. He drew his brother inward; hugging him tight. Laying his head against Sethâs.Â
âItâs going to be okay. Weâll find a cure before this thing takes you.âÂ
He wasnât going to let this take another one of his brothers. Not if he could fucking help it. Perhaps, he was reassuring himself far more than he was Seth, but no matter what happened. Rudy would do everything in his power to try and get what they needed before Seth ended up like their brother.Â
âYouâre going to be okay.â
stand down, soldier.
CASTOR WEEK: Day Two: Favorite Scene
CastorWeek Day 1 | Favourite Castor Clone: Rudy & MarkÂ
This is project C a s t o r
Mark/Rudy +Â âterms of endearmentâ
CASTOR TROPES: Seth
âYou donât have to do that,â Mark replied before he could remember not to. Heâd been trying to keep from taking the bait by allowing Gracie or his life with her to even drift near his responses to Rudyâs commentary, but this one time heâd allowed it to slip past his lips.
There was an almost modest quality to the reply: accepting gifts had never come easily to him, or her, as theyâd both been raised in communities where everything belonged to everyone, and taking things for oneself was a betrayal of the family. If anything, the promise of a gift from anyone felt like a piece of selfishness heâd rather not chew on. The promise of a gift from Rudy felt like double-edged sword. Knowing him, the house plant in question would turn out to be a cactus, just to remind Mark of the home base heâd left behind. Or to call him a prick in a not-so-subtle way.
With that sobering thought in mind, the slight smile that had formed unbidden at the corner of his mouth was quickly bitten back as Mark chewed on his lip. ââŠBut thank you for the thought.â
He felt distinctly unsettled in the silence that followed, though it only lasted for a second. Heâd been unfair in asking his brother this question, he supposed. There was a lot of ground to cover with such a broad word as okay. There were matters of the heartâŠand of healthâŠthat heâd been worrying about all at once, and being greeted with Rudyâs anger seemed like a relief and an alarm all at the same time.
ââJust a fewââŠâ he echoed, nodding as though he knew that heâd deserved that barrage of negative emotions that his brother had listed for him. âGood. Alright.â Â
This was better. Rather, it was easier to deal with because it was more familiar territory. Rudy was at his most dangerous when he was emotional, but he was also easier to predict. At least, Mark had always found that to be so; maybe it was one of the benefits of being the older brother, and having watched Rudy grow up into the man he was. In that moment, he couldnât see the weapon that the army had made him, he only saw the boy that had stirred next to him in the barracks at night when his dreams turned sour.
âYouâve never been one to hold back before, Rudy, so donât stop there.â Mark moved forward slowly, arms outstretched and palms facing upwards, as if in surrender. âGo ahead, little brother. You have anything else to say? Want to hit me? Whatever you need, go for it. Free shot: itâs yours.â
Letting his brother dictate the way the rest of this interaction would go wasâŠunlike him, but Mark felt that it was necessary. Letting Rudy be right for once, for he was in his own way, was as good a gift as he could give him.
Health-wise, Rudy felt -- fine.. Save the constant headaches, but he wouldn't dare divulge that sort of information. Not until he was sure that they were just that. Headaches and nothing more. He needed to be there for Seth. Rudy needed to be strong for his brother. He couldn't go around scared and afraid that their disease had hooked into him and taken root. He couldn't let that information out. It was his own secret. He had to keep his head about him and finish the mission. Find the original genome and go from there. But, if what he suspected was true. How long did he have? Rudy couldn't think about it any longer. If it was, what it was. Then so be it and if it wasn't, then all would be good within a couple of days.Â
His gaze drifted upward onto his brothers face and he'd watch and wait for his next move. Hurt. He was hurt that Mark had left them. Betrayed the only family he had ever known and that emotion doesn't come easy for him, or at least, he doesn't think so. The young man would shift once, upon his feet, before letting his arms hang loosely at his side. A sigh would emit from his lungs as he listened to his brother.
So, that was a no to the gift then. Perhaps, that was the best response that Mark could have given him, because the gift that Rudy would have gotten for the newlyweds would be something that would remained him of how much a prick he was or remained him of the base and the people he had left behind.Â
"Alright, then. One last thing to check off my list."
Silence fell again and the corners of his mouth pulled into a small smirk, his hazel hues lingered upon those that belonged to his brother. He couldn't let his emotions get the better of him, because then Mark would be able to predict his moves and counteract them. He'd inhale, slowly, before exhaling.Â
Was this some sort of trick? What game was Mark playing? He outranked him. Even though, he had left the army. He wasn't a fool, but he was right. He wasn't one to back down either. To stow away his emotions. To restrain himself from lashing out. He knew better. But, how he wanted to hurt him. To break his face in. To show and give him the same pain, that he was feeling, but he held strong and firm.Â
However, as Mark drew near, Rudy let himself relax a little, and made his way towards Mark. Meeting the other in the middle. Face to face, they stood. His eyes trailed along the other as he pulled his arms up, as if in a surrender. Tilting his head slightly to the side, his gaze would weave along Mark's face. This was a joke. Was it? He couldnât tell. He oddly calm. Reserved. The way he always was. Unlike Rudy. They were the total opposites. Where Mark was more put together. Level headed, rational, sensible. Where-as Rudy was, aggressive, callous, impulsive.Â
He reached up and lay a hand against the others cheek, while wrapping the other around his neck, drawing the other near. His face mere inches from the others. A smirk would draw along his brims and he'd speak; his voice rather soft.
"You don't want me to hit you. If I hit you, brother. If I hit you, I wont be able to stop."Â
This was so unlike Mark, to give him free reign of how the rest of the conversation, interaction of theirâs would go. Was not something that he would have allowed in the past. This had to be a test. No. He wasnât sure what to make of this. But, he could never hit his brother. Never. He looked up to him. He loved him. To lay a hand on him in a harmful way wasnât something that Rudy couldnât bring himself to do.Â
âI wont hit you, Mark.â He knew when to stand down and now was the time to do just that. âI didnât come here to fight you brother.â Heâd uncoil his hand from around Markâs neck and drop his arms to the side. The silence between the two was deafening, but Rudy had nothing else to say. At the moment, that was. So, there he stood. Face to face with his brother. The silence grow louder and louder as the moments ticked on by.
Describing yourself as incestuous? Does that mean you and your brothers have sex?
âIsnât that what incest means? To have sex with someone within your family, that isnât your significant other; wife, husband, boyfriend and or girlfriend? Then yes and no. Seth and I, will share a bed with one or two women at the same time and sometimes, itâs just the two of us. As for Mark, Miller and Parsons. I wouldnât ever dream of sharing a bed or a woman with them.â
itâs all fun and games         âtil somebody          loses their MIND
Gracie hated Rudy. She hated him. She hated the dark soul inside of him, she hated the way it enveloped her. She hated, most of all, that she could see how easy it was to fall and become what he had become. It could happen to hear so easily. Grace could adopt his darkness. She had, hadnât she? Sheâd pressed a pillow to Helenaâs face and prayed for the girl to die. She was just as terrible as the man with his hands around her throat.
But Rudy was wrong. She wasnât scared in any conventional form. The one thing she feared was Mark and how he would cope if Rudy squeezed too hard and she was gone.
And harder he squeezed, with his face a breath away from hers, and the world around her grew fuzzier. It wouldnât be this easy. Not with Rudy. Not with the insane man who would attack his brotherâs wife, take another to bed, and sterilize women without a thought.
Gracie was having difficulty speaking. She wanted to, but her breath wouldnât come, and she couldnât force it through her blocked throat, so instead, she lashed out differently. She spit. She watched with an edge of victory as it hit Rudyâs face,
He could see the hate in her eyes. Feel the LOATHING she felt towards him, radiating off of her. It was exhilarating. He was raised to be this-- this thing. A weapon. Nothing more. The wickedness and darkness that coursed through his veins was something that had been planted within him and grown over time. She was right. There was no hint of goodness within him. Not now, at least. When he younger. There was, but that seed that Coady had planted within him and his brothers had grown dark. His, more than others.Â
He was all bad. There was nothing good inside him. He was the villain in this story and there was nothing that he could do or would do about it.
He'd squeeze his hand around Gracie's little neck a few more times. No. Not enough to kill her. He would never kill her. No. Why kill her, when he could have his fun. He dug his thumb against the young woman's neck. Digging his nail into her flesh.Â
"I could kill you, but thing is... You're the only thing that's made Mark happy in a long, long time.... But --", his thumbnail dug deeply into her throat. Causing the flesh to break free and little droplets of crimson would push forth from the small wound he had caused.
"Though, that doesn't mean I'm not going to have my fun with you."
She had brought this on. If she had just let it go. Rudy wouldn't be doing this right now. He wouldn't have crossed a line, that he knew, he might not be able to uncross. While, he wasn't afraid of Mark. He knew better than to mess with something or in this case, someone, that he cared about.
As Gracie continued to struggle with her breathing, a light laugh fell from his lungs. Oh, how easy would it be to just end her pathetic, miserable life. To feel her windpipe crush underneath the weight of his hand. To feel what little life she had left, leave her.Â
"Sh--sh...", he'd began. However, as the saliva flew from her mouth and landed upon the right side of his cheek. A large groan, expelled his lungs, as he turned his head to the side and pressed his cheek against the back of her head, to wipe the spit away.
"Disgusting..."
Releasing his hold upon the young woman, he merely shoved her to the side and watched as she fell face forward onto the floor, wiping the back of his hand along his cheek, to clean the rest of the spit away.
Surprised wasnât the word heâd have chosen, but now that he was forced to think on it, Mark couldnât find a better descriptor. A part of him was surprised, then. He hadnât expected that, for some reason; heâd honestly expected his disappearance to go noted, probably resented, but ultimately buried. He hadnât thought that his absence would bother Rudy at all, in the long run.
He hadnât expected to want to readily accept Rudyâs statement at face value, either, but that sentiment was there, bubbling under the surface all the same.
A part of him wanted to give his brother the benefit of the doubt just then. Another part knew better than to be that optimistically careless. He wasnât allowed to have both, he reminded himself. It was them, or it was her, and heâd made his choice, no matter how deep the guilty ache went. Â
ââŠYeah.. We are.â
For the second time, heâd intentionally avoided giving up too much information about his marriage to Rudy. Revealing too much would make his newfound happiness an easy target, regardless of who was looking to do damage. If it wasnât Rudy, it would be someone else. Mark wasnât the sort to let his guard down. Never had been. Not even around his brothers.
Especially not around them.
Still, latching onto his brotherâs last statement was an easy way around that. It satisfied that part of him that wanted to believe RudyâŠbut moreover, Mark simply found it easy to admit. Definitions were difficult for him these days: he was no longer a soldier, no longer a ProletheanâŠbut a brotherâŠfamilyâŠ
That he could be. If the echoing ache in his chest was any indication, heâd never really stopped, no matter what they thought about him back home.
âSo be honest with me, Rudy. Are you okay?â
Surprised wasn't one of the words that Rudy would normally use, but it was the only word he could think to use at that moment. Rudy, hadn't tried to actively seek Mark out, in the beginning. In fact, his disappearance had been noted and he had gone on with his life. Doing his job, as if everything was normal and for the most part. He was alright with that. He was alright working along-side Miller and doing what was asked of him to do, but after awhile, he felt -- well, I wouldn't exactly used the word empty or say that he felt like something was missing. Obviously, someone was. There's no real reason as to why Rudy would seek out Mark and his wife. Perhaps, the man was simply bored. Yes, that could be it. Couldn't it?
As he stood there, his hazel hues would stream along the all too familiar face and a smile would tug along his pale, brims. 'Causing the scar that took up half of the right side of his face to bunch up and grow even more distorted.Â
Mark had betrayed his family, turned his back on his brothers and for what? A taste of freedom? Happiness? Love? Did he actually believe that he was going to be able to get away with it? Did he actually believe that they wouldn't hunt him down and take him back home? Though, this wasn't that type of visit. No. In fact, Rudy was here to merely see how his older brother was. To act, just like that. Brothers. Nothing else. No tricks. Just a simple chat between siblings.Â
"Suppose, I should get you and the missus a gift. A nice little house plant or something.."
He'd drawled out, running his fingers up through his faux hawk, a simply shrug of his shoulders; his gaze would sweep along the room, that they both stood. His hazel hues would fall back upon his brother and he'd wait for him to say something more. Watching the older man, before him, as he tried to find something else to say.
Be honest with him? How was he really feeling?Â
To say, that he was alright, would be a lie. Naturally, the remark about him, being fantastic, was just that. A lie. He was.. He was hurt. He felt betrayed. He was angry. Furious.Â
"You left us... How do you think I feel? Okay, isn't a word I would use to describe my emotions, brother. Angry, hurt, disappointed, betrayed. Are just a few."
Rudy, the w e a p o n
