Your female character does not always have to be ‘strong’ or ‘brave’ or ‘smart’ or ‘do everything right’. She doesn’t have to be the best fighter, or impossibly beautiful and good at everything.

She is allowed to make mistakes, to have bad judgement calls, drink too much, smoke too much, be a little overweight, not win a fight, not be perfect in everything she does.

She is allowed to be human.

I wish we could get out of the mind frame that if a female character isn’t written as ‘perfect’ at everything she does, then she’s a failed role model for young girls. Young girls need to be taught that they can mess up just like any man can and still be able to redeem themselves and have people respect them.
