I love LOTR so it’s about time I did some fanart!
Ashitaka is done!
Fuck yeah
this was a poem i wrote for my theology class. clearly, it has nothing to do with the subject matter but she'll give anything a 100 so it was a fun excuse to write a poem. it's def not perfect but i like it!
obsessed with the fact that howl movingcastle, like, is the ideal portal fantasy protagonist. he's a welsh rugby-playing grad student who enters a magical world where he discovers he's a wildly powerful wizard. there's an evil witch out to get him and the king needs his help and there's a curse catching up with him. he has a magical creature sidekick and an orphan apprentice and a mentor who gets killed by the evil witch halfway through and a love interest under a terrible curse. the story is BEGGING for him to be the main character. and he's just like. no <3.
Subtle foreshadowing? 🤨 Iykyk
Don't worry he'd still love her he's just a lil' bamboozled
The sweetest joy he’s known… I am wibbly wobbly mess after drawing this one, folks! They are So sweet.

would you still love me again?
Im sick with flu so naturally I picked up my newly bought copy of Howl's Moving Castle which includes DWJ interviews in the back.
And im in love with the way she tells these stories feels like a part of her books.
And my favorite:
The magic in the mundane :)
edit: I'm copying the ID by @princess-of-purple-prose below, thank you!
[ID: Excerpts of printed text which read:
I suppose there's also a biographical element in that Sophie is the eldest of three sisters, and so am I. The idea for Sophie grew out of the time I discovered I had a very severe milk allergy. I almost lost the use of my legs and had to walk with the aid of a stick. I was moderately young, but because of this I suddenly became old.
I had to wait until I knew what Wizard Howl was like. I began to discover Howl about the time when one of my sons took to spending several hours in the bathroom every morning and I got really, really, really annoyed with him.
Where were you when you wrote it? I wrote the book the way I write everything, stretched out on the big sofa in my sitting room, in everyone's way. This often annoys my husband rather a lot.
which made me burst out laughing. I laughed and laughed at the seven league boot, and when I came to the bit where Sophie accidentally makes Howl's suit twenty times too big for him, I laughed so much that I fell off the sofa. My husband was really irritated by this time. He snapped, "You can't be making yourself laugh!" And I gasped, "But I am, I am!" and rolled about on the floor.
Are any of your relatives or friends included in the book? Yes, well the thing that started me off writing the book was a friend of mine who never does her laundry. She has it around the place in huge bags for often as much as a year. When she does tip it all out and try to wash it, she discovers all sorts of clothes that she has forgotten she had.
Which is your favourite part of the book and why? I like the book all over, but I suppose if I had to choose a bit, I'd choose the place where Howl gets a cold. It so happened that when I was writing this bit, my husband caught a bad cold. He is the world's most histrionic cold catcher. He moans, he coughs, he piles on the pathos, he makes strange noises, he blows his nose exactly like a bassoon in a tunnel, he demands bacon sandwiches at all hours, and he is liable to appear (usually wrapped in someone else's dressing gown) at any time, announcing that he is dying of neglect and boredom. So all I had to do was write it down. End ID]
I found this quote from Diana Wynne Jones (Author of novels Howl's Moving Castle and Castle in the Air) on her time at Oxford when she had C.S. Lewis and Tolkien as professors and I thought I couldn't relate to Jrrt any more than I already did but I've been proven wrong.
"[C. S. Lewis] was just a marvelous lecturer: he made the dullest topics absolutely shine. He lectured in the very largest of lecture halls, which was a huge “L” shape, and it was packed, with people standing in the aisles, even early in the morning. Everybody drank it in. Obviously a whole lot of people took this away and thought about it, and began writing - mostly for children because in those days you couldn’t write fantasy for anyone else. Tolkien was a different matter. He was just a kind of eminence grise and a legend. You couldn’t hear him lecture. He worked at not letting you hear, because he wanted to go away and finish writing The Lord of the Rings. So he had the very smallest lecture room. First of all it was packed out, so he spoke with his back to the audience and mumbling. Unfortunately he was talking about - meditating on, really - what a plot is like and how it mutates into other plots, and this I found so fascinating that I went back the next week as did one other person. And this meant that he couldn’t stop lecturing and still get the money, which apparently in those days you could if no one turned up - it was a dreadful racket, really. He could have given just the one lecture and then been paid for a term if we’d all stayed away. But this other person and I attended diligently week after week, so he was forced to go on meditating about plots mutating, and what I could hear was fascinating, because he was busy with the really large orchestration of the latter part of The Lord of the Rings at the time. But all I retain is a sense of how marvelous the way plots work is. That was all I got out of it, but I kept going in case I might understand a bit more next week - let alone hear a bit more."
(Quoted from “Interview with Diana Wynne Jones, 22 March 2001, conducted by Charles Butler.”)

Daydreaming about an odyssey inspired song/album set in the phaecian court and it's just the stranger who washed up on the shore recounting his journey Mariner's revenge or Master's Song (dracula musical) style (in like vibes?). Except he's constantly fibbing and the phaecians keep calling him out on it and it's a struggle and a half to wrangle the story out of the man who allegedly calls himself Odysseus
The first song is the song of troy Demodocus sings, and you get to listen to it until it's interrupted by sobbing. Nausicaa and her family have a brief aside where they discuss how the hell they found this guy. The second song is the sportfest they had and it is very fun. The young men all have their asses get handed to them in discus throwing. The third song is the other song Demodocus sings of troy, and there is even more sobbing. Alcinous is both annoyed and intrigued and insists their guest sing his story instead. The name Odysseus isn't uttered until the very end of the track because I think it's funny
Odysseus constantly uses other identities he's whipped up throughout the Odyssey, like Aethon the Cretan and Eperitus of Sicily, lying off his ass in brief asides before returning to the main plot. Sometimes he talks in third person. He switches around locations and names. No one knows what the fuck he's talking about. The entire court is Daniel Malloy-ing their way through this
