History
Rhiannon was born in Warwick parish of Bermuda.
Her family had moved there when her grandparents were adults, so her dad more or less grew up there. Her mom came when her family was stationed at the American military base.
Growing up, Rhiannon was a very 'regular' kid for most of the upbringing. Sometimes would gravitate towards less aggressive games, not really liking the normal sports. Sometimes she would want to play different make believe than the other kids, but her parents didn't think much of it.
So when she came out in the equivalent to high school, she was afraid, but hopeful.
Her parents had outwardly been supportive, but even so, Rhiannon wanted to feel like she was shone in the light in some regards, not tolerated. It was never terrible, but moments that made her think that maybe they weren't as okay with it as they led her to believe. Between that and the health care system in Bermuda, Rhiannon decided to grab a plane out. With nothing more than two suitcases, the idea of moving to California because of the matching weather and dreams of acting.
See, the whole time she was back home, she would consume constant stories and musicals and theater bills and so much else. Virtually nothing came to the tiny island in regards to that other than the stories. So she always dreamed of being able to be in them.
California was kind to her in ways she didn't realize were possible.
She had booked a few stray gigs as a commercial voice over person while working as a bartender. Slowly she booked more. And she realized that she could work this sort of job from home, away from the deeply expensive Los Angeles and somewhere a little cheaper. With the same kind of weather.
Thus she settled in Aurora Bay. Where she could live out her dreams, with comfort all around, and her whole future in front of her.
"I'd be happy to make a trek up to LA sometime to attend something more interesting. If you wanna go with me, I mean." Maybe that could be a fun road trip sometime. It seemed like a good idea. She was up for it. Sometimes it was nice to do something outside routine. And LA was fine. Saki spent a lot of time there.
The blush on her face was very apparent when Rhia asked for her number. She was used to people flirting with her, but no one was ever interesting enough for her. Rarely did she think it would work out. "Here I thought I'd already given it to you." She handed her phone over. "Sorry, you make me nervous."
"I would love to." It's said with a little too much speed, maybe. There's excitement in Rhiannon though. Not just at the notion of doing something like a date with Saki. More like she felt excited at being able to do something with a friend. It seemed like newcomers came to town often enough, but she was still struggling to get ahold of things here.
"Oh! You-You might have. Not going to lie, I'm a bit-bit distracted by you as well," She confessed with a small laugh and her own blush streaking across her features. "Just two femmes nervous on a-a date?" It's said with a sort of questioning note that she hoped where she wasn't overstepping. Said as she took the other's phone number and made sure hers was in Saki's as well.
Juno had thought about what she would have wrote about had things gone differently and she had gone through every scenario in her head before. None of it was easy but she felt like her actual talents were being wasted. ā it would still be the news, but not like this. Things that were really important. I had gone to school to be able to tell other peoples stories and now I tell their secrets ā
ā I think I would be more willing to join you with something like that then. The actual outdoors and no equipment thoughts actually kind of scared meā @scatteredwordsrhiannon
"Maybe you could try something new? I mean. If you're okay with me g-giving you an idea. Could you make a blog or a-...what's the new thing? A substack? Publish under a psuedonym even. Might help you break into a field you'd prefer." It was a long shot, maybe something more akin to the plot of a movie or a book, but was there harm in it? Especially if Juno got to write about things she actually enjoyed. "I'll read every time you-you update. Promise."
The smile grew, one of excitement from Rhiannon. "Let's do-do it some time then! I'll show you all around!"
"Yeah, I remember those days. Or like... not in the same way, but you know what I mean." Getting to work on sets was kind of different than acting in any capacity. Voice actors totally got the short end of the stick. Oriana scrunched her nose. "Mhmmm. Well I want to be the first to know if that changes. I'd like to at least be happy for someone in the romance department."
"No, no, I get you. It's not something that can be only understood if you're in it. It's straightforward. As f-for the romance department, you'll be the first I tell about any of those sorts of things. But only if-if you promise the same. Screw the ex. Get some-some drinks in you and find some strangers or whatever those cliches are." She knew, but it was Rhia's brand to not have the confidence in her words.
When Saki realized that she wanted to be an actress, she'd wanted to tell Maura who hadn't been happy. She'd spent so long sucking up to people in Hollywood, attending all the right parties in LA to get a role all for nothing. It was her own road when she found her dream role and the one that launched her career. At this point Saki didn't need to attend events like this, she only did to find interesting people and maybe be considered for a role.
"Yeah, I always feel like the same producers show up to these things here. I don't normally go." Moving to Aurora Bay had been a choice after she found out about the manor. It hadn't helped with their career. "Well next one of these sorts of things you want to go to, you should text me. At least we can be miserable together."
"I've learned that-that too." It wasn't exactly in LA, so of course the pool would be smaller to pull from. Her management thought that that meant nothing but positive results. She would be new blood in the same old heart of things and they'd get to know her quickly. Which did happen, to their credit. But it also made for quite the boring time. Especially with how frequently she was sent to these sorts of things.
Arm in arm, Rhia smiled to the other, "...I-I can do that." There's a hesitant smile, something bold warming its way into Rhiannon's chest. Well, something bold for her. "May I take your number now then? Before we go to dinner? Just to make sure."
Oriana knew that she had forged a path that wasn't easy for herself. She'd loved being creative when she was younger and her social media was an entry point for what she wanted to do. Now it was her everything. "I highly doubt that's true. Your job is super demanding and I know you've got something going on." She was fishing for details. "Really? In a town like this, you've not got a single bite?"
"I mean, it-it's always happening in some form. Projects and stuff. I'm not resigned to pilot season and-and so on." Rhiannon preferred not to speak about herself, she felt selfish whenever she did in any capacity. Like she was shoving the conversation into her direction when they were already talking about Oriana. "I-I mean I'm inside most days. Some women I've met I-I think are gorgeous and so on. Just nothing t-too crazy."
Juno had a massive case of self hatred. She didnāt take pride in what she did because she remembered what it was like to have a camera shoved in her face during the trial of her boyfriendās murder. She hated it. But she had a name and a story after the dust had settled and people wanted to hear from her. The fact it became tabloids really sort of chipped away at her. But the money? The money was good and it helped her loved ones ā if I didnāt run the risk of losing my income? Iād go back to regular journalism in a heartbeat. Iām too far in now thoughā
ā I had to ask because you had me thinking you were some daredevil with nature. It would have been really impressive. But Iām glad itās a lot safer than that. Iām more intrigued now ā @scatteredwordsrhiannon
Rhia nodded along, smiling slightly. It wasn't perfect, Juno's job. It wasn't exactly even something that should likely exist in most scenarios. But if it was what she had to do to make ends meet, then Rhiannon wouldn't judge her for that. Not to any sort of level she might with someone else who jumped at the chance for such a career. "Understandable. What do you think you'd write about if you could? Dream scenario, I mean. Music, movies, politics, religion, books, restaurants?"
A shake of her head, another smile, this one more akin to a laughing smile than the supportive one from a moment ago. "No, no. I mean, maybe b-by some people's standards, sure. But it's the normal kind of rock climbing. Indoors and-and whatnot."
Are there any physical items that make your muse happy?
"Sure. I mean, in general I will say books and cozy chairs make me happy. A-A fresh note book. New shoes for climbing. A pass to Universal? Specifics though? I've got some nicknacks from back home I like to keep on me. My favorite pen f-for sure."
"I-I'll vote for my brain. My curiosity. Think that there are lots of things to enjoy about-about life and I want to see so-so many of them. Think I've really started to love who am I after wrestling with my gender for a bit and getting to be who I-I am now."
š¶ Pepper - Do they like spicy food? How good are they at tolerating spice?
"Tolerating? That I am unsure of. But I think I like spice enough. Not any sort of crazy for it, but a good blend with stuff and I'll enjoy it pretty-pretty likely, I think. I would probably get to around the third or fourth wing on Hot Ones."
"I love that for us." Saki looked around the room once more before turning their attention towards Rhia. Honestly it was much better when she didn't have to pretend to care about a room full of people who probably wouldn't think twice about her after she left. But maybe that was being pessimistic and Saki didn't love to be like that very often. It reminded them of their foster mom.
"Good. I'd like that too." She hadn't been sure the offer would be taken up. Although she tended to not think that highly of herself in situations like this. Even though they weren't sure what this was. "Same." Saki looked around the room one more time and held out their arm. "Let's go."
Rhia smiled bright before looping her arm through Saki's. There's a small bit of hesitation in that. Not because she was unsure, but more so of a switch between the excitement and Rhiannon's pension for overthinking. With that, she tried to focus on getting out of the awkward, networking air and more into the mode of just hanging out with a friend.
"You know, it's nice to-to meet someone here who experience the-the same sort of weird energy in those sort of-of places," Rhiannon commented as they walked away from the party and into a night filled with possibility. "Obviously they all do too. But it always f-feels like I'm gauging for someone who might agree."
"If you're sure," Faye shrugs, taking the book back and tucking it under her arm. "I was looking it up, there's some pretty weird sounding stories in this one, like--the Suicide Club? I love when these old authors randomly have totally bizarre side projects you've never heard of. You read a lot of classics?" @scatteredwordsrhiannon
"Positive," She replied. "Oh, a-an author's deepcuts are always going to be strange. Or if they're already a 'strange' writer, like a Stephen King, they just end up being more 'normal.' The Suicide Club can be quite strange, but I think there's some feelings of that in people that he was trying to get ahold of." Without giving too much away or getting too into it. "More or less all of them? I think? But yes. Classics and modern and post modern and epics. List goes on. You?"
These events were never Saki's favorite to attend. They liked smaller events where they knew everyone that was going to be there. But still, attending them to get out there was important regardless of their feelings about it. "That's how I'm feeling too." She wished there were more interesting people around, but really it was just... well Rhiaannon. Everyone else was so dull in comparison.
"I thought there'd be more people without current projects, but I think everyone here is working on something. Sure there probably were projects in the works, but they'd been here long enough to say hello to most people. "That's what I was doing too." A reminder that she still existed. "I'd love to. Do you, um, want to go get dinner?"
"Similar wavelengths then. You and-and I on that one," There had surely been a point to these more so at one point. Where friends could tell other friends about their stuff. Or maybe actually seem to have conversations that moved along more in regards to lives lived rather than projects worked. Now it just seemed like a whirlpool of networking in a way that felt underhanded. Still, seemed like Rhia was at one at least once a month now.
Her smile was impossible to hide. One that was wide, but somehow still bashful. She was just happy to get to spend time with Saki again in general. "Would I-? Yes. Yes, I'd love to-to go get dinner with you. Get out of here and stuff." The briefest pause. "I'm good whenever. If it helps. No coat room or anything like that f-from me today."
"They were stupid people," she nodded. Oriana didn't love being disliked by people, even Raf she wanted to be friendly with. That ship probably sailed though. "Thanks. And same for me. If anyone gives you problems, they'll have to deal with me." Oriana nodded. "Yeah, I'm sure I'm good. There's nothing that we can do." She looked at her friend. "Now, tell me what's been going on with you. Any fun jobs? Anyone you're talking to?"
Rhia knew that it was a bit of a sore subject all around. But couldn't help but smile wide at the two of them offering to help one another. A sense of pride and community in that. "Me? Oh, y-you know me. Never anything exciting in my life. I try-try and talk to women and fail pretty much everytime in that regard."
"Oh, more or less. I mean, our part isn't too bad. But everywhere has everyone running around l-like crazy, so it's just-just bleeding into us."
Rhia held back a sigh of relief at having something more akin to a normal conversation instead of request after request. She loved helping the kids and such around town, but the parents could be quite demanding at times.
"It is good weather thankfully. D-Don't want to be a soaked pixie in the hollow. Water-logged fae isn't a-a great look for me.
Juno was a bit relieved to not be met with immediate derision for her line of work, but that opened a whole other can of worms. Because she didnāt exactly choose this line of work. It sort of happened to her out of necessity. ā not exactly. I went to work for journalism. So I always wanted to write but then people I cared about needed money. And this paid better ā you do what you have to for your loved ones sometimes
ā no Iāve never actually tried that beforeā Juno was surprised because she had always thought rock climbing was pretty scary. ā with the gear right? Not rock climbing just bare handed right ?ā @scatteredwordsrhiannon
Rhia hesitated. Because she couldn't fully fault someone for trying to be helpful to those that they loved. She could fully sympathize. Even so, the notion of it having to be tabloids to do so. She was nowhere near famous enough for that, but she had a few friends who were. "Given the-the opportunity, would you switch? Or has it become something you-you feel passionate about now?"
There's an immediate shake of her head then followed up with a nod. Had it backwards there, Rhiannon. "Y-Yes...-No. No, yes. I mean to say, I d-do it with the gear. In a place. Not free form. Might have a panic attack by foot two if that were-were the case."
