“Are you only feeding her sugar? I really can’t imagine little kids going without their naps. Like I’m pretty sure I’ve had a couple of kids fall asleep during my class.” His eyes widened in shock unable to believe that the other man hadn’t enjoyed PE in school. That seemed like the most unrealistic thing ever unless you just completely hated physical activity, but he was certain that wasn’t the case with Noah. “Man, dodgeball was the best! As soon as it started getting closer to winter I kept praying that it would rain just so that we would be able to play dodgeball.” He shook his head in mock disappointment for the other’s apparent distaste for PE. “So you just fell victim by accident? Because you definitely don’t look like a gringo to me. You should have gotten them back if that was the case. For reals though, I had actually stopped cooking for a while, because I always ended up throwing a lot of the food away, but now that I have a roommate I started back up again. We actually manage to finish everything now.”
Noah laughed. “Oh yeah, she wishes I was only feeding her sugar. What age do you teach? I was told that it’s normal for kids to stop napping around three or four, and I couldn’t really push her into it otherwise she’d stay awake all night and it was a nightmare.” He shrugged, a small chuckle escaping his lips as he noticed Miguel’s eyes widening. “Nah, I hated dodgeball. I didn’t really like any sports that kept me locked in a field, actually, I’m not sure why. It was just never my thing, I guess.” Noah said, but he couldn’t help but find adorable the idea of little Miguel excited about rainy days just so he could play inside. “Well, I can’t prove it, but sounds right. Eh, I mean, we were all speaking English, and my knowledge of Spanish is just whatever I can translate into Portuguese, and we all know how that can be disastrous, considering both languages have the same word with ridiculously different meanings, so I might not look like a gringo at first glance, but I’m sure everyone there thought I was. I’m sure they did that in retaliation of something I started. Our prank wars used to get wicked, it was actually pretty stupid.” Noah laughed. “Oh yeah, having a roommate probably helps with that kind of thing; between Lola and... Everything that happened before her, I never really had a roommate, so I wouldn’t know for sure.”
“Unless you can name off five different internet memes without going online to look for some your ‘cool dad’ status is being revoked.” Stevie chuckled, mostly to herself. She loved making fun of people who weren’t much older than her and take her all too seriously. “Okay, Gramps. I’ll definitely keep that in mind.”
“Okay fuck off, my cool dad status cannot be revoked, okay? That’s just who I am.” Noah rolled his eyes. “I’m not a Gramps! And I won’t be for the next thirty years, and when I do become one, I’ll be the hottest and coolest Gramps in town.”
“I can say I’ve seen my fair share of ridiculously troublesome kids so I’m sure you’re thankful Lola isn’t. Then this calls for drinks, don’t you think?”
“Oh yeah, I thank God everyday that my daughter is a little angel, because I’ve seen kids so much worse and I have no idea how I’d raise one.”
friends with benefits sentence starters:
“what are we, nerds trying to look at boobies?”
“i’m your boss, give me your pants.”
“i love that outfit, you look so sexy in that.”
“i’m fully aware of your allergies.”
“here’s an idea, next time, instead of being late, just shit on my face.”
“you said i was your soulmate.”
“work doesn’t reassure you that liking a finger up your ass doesn’t make you gay.”
“but you’re actually really emotionally damaged.”
“you have really big eyes and it freaks me out sometimes.”
“why do relationships start off so fun, and then turn into suck a bag of dicks?”
“i’m just gonna’ shut myself down emotionally.”
“i’m gonna’ change your life. i’m that girl.”
“i could post a video of me mixing cake batter with my boobs and it would get eight million hits.”
“what are you, a gazelle?”
“don’t be the guy who shit the bed.”
“puppy dog eyes. nice touch.”
“wanna’ get this guy out of my face before i break his fucking skull?”
“you don’t fucking know me man.”
“i took his virginity.”
“does the carpet match the drapes?”
“run gazelle! run!”
“i have this thing at work. it’s called google.”
“if you tell anyone about this i will rip your ears off and staple them to your neck.”
“everyone in this city seems really violent.”
“do you want to get your shit out of my car or what?”
“go and fuck a dick.”
“i’d love to take you out one night and trawl for cock.”
“we can tear this shit up.”
“hey, no skin. more pipe for me.”
“you sure you’re not gay?”
“i’m not fucking asking you out i swear to god.”
“god, you’re such a girl.”
“girl, you are preaching to the congregation.”
“this shit is amazing.”
“i love that sunsets make you cry.”
“i wish my life was a movie sometimes.”
“god, i miss sex.”
“hold me, let’s spend the rest of our lives together.”
“i don’t even know if i find you attractive.”
“i do have a thing for jerks.”
“i liked your eyes. i didn’t think i’d ever seen such big beautiful eyes.”
“and your lips, yeah, i thought you might be a good kisser.”
“you swear you don’t want anything from me other than sex?”
“you have a bible app?”
“no relationship. no emotions. just sex.”
“come on, okay, you’re beautiful. you have nothing to be insecure about.”
“that is way too emotionally supportive and you need to just lock that down.”
“your ass is a little bony.”
“i sneeze sometimes after i come.”
“feet gross me out. daddy issues.”
“what are you trying to do, dig your way to china?”
“nobody wants to fuck obama.”
“what are you my fucking therapist now?”
“every time you curse, you blink. like your body’s rejecting the word.”
“as a sign of rebellion, you got a tattoo.”
“harry potter doesn’t make you gay!”
“my butt is cramping can you grab a pillow?”
“do you feel manly now?”
“are you pooping?”
“all you have at home is drinkable yoghurt.”
“it was like talking to dirt.”
“i’m starving, you got any gin?”
“i’ve turned down more tail than you’ll ever have.”
“me likes cock, so i’m strickily dickily.”
“i’ve been in love, i went down that rabbit hole.”
“one day, you will meet someone and it will literally take your breath away. like no oxygen in yours lungs. like a fish.”
“i told him you were my gay best friend.”
“he smells like a girl.”
“the sneak out. how incredibly cliché of you.”
“no, go fuck yourself.”
“trust me, you don’t suck in bed.”
“forget the douche, he’s a dick. he’s a dickdouche.”
“get your feet off my bed, they’re disgusting.”
“we’re one of these crazy families that don’t lie to eachother, pbs is doing a documentary on us.”
“nobody cares, you sound like an asshole.”
“i just need you to be my friend right now.”
“okay, so i’ll listen to you while you give me a handjob.”
“i’m a magician, not a wizard. you and your gay harry potter.”
“you can’t deny going to hogwarts would be life changing.”
“all that matters is how you look at him.”
“i haven’t seen you this dumb since you got that candy corn tattoo.”
“you wanna’ be happy? find someone you like and never let them go.”
“are you pissed off at me because i didn’t cuddle?”
“i actually thought you were different.”
“with friends like you who needs friends?”
“i have the perfect body for photoshop.”
“my prince charming? you.”
“if you even think there’s a chance she might be it, fix it.”
“if i ever see you again, i’ll crush your earlobes and make soup stock out of them.”
“it’s some prince charming shit though, right?”
“i want my best friend back, because i’m in love with her.”
“on one condition. kiss me.”
“As adorable as Lola is, they’re kids and they’re a lot of work. Some adult time is always much needed. What were you thinking of doing on your free time?”
“You can say that again.” Noah snorted. “I honestly don’t know? I have a lot of stuff to do, but I’ll probably end up getting a drink or hitting the beach.”
“If anything, she’ll probably get tired of me first. Just ‘cause I love kids and probably play with them too much. Like she’ll hate me because I won’t let her nap. That sort of thing.” He shrugged. “How is that even possible? What about PE? Like I would probably go back to school just to take PE all day. Oh my god, I sound like such a meathead. Just pretend like I never said any of that, alright?” He laughed, but on the inside he was mentally making notes to not embarrass himself like that again. “Ah, okay. I don’t understand how the enchiladas were spicy, since the sauce they use to make it red isn’t really supposed to be spicy. The spicy salsa is the one you add on your own. I’m thinking maybe tacos, just because I haven’t made any in a while. I always end up cooking too much meat so that’s why I had stopped since I was only cooking for myself.”
“Oh, you won’t know what hit you. That girl never stops, she completely stopped napping when she was three, and I never managed to force her to do anything.” Noah laughed. “Oh no, PE was horrible for me, no matter how much I always enjoyed physical activity, PE was always this fat old lady making us play dodge-ball and screaming at anyone that didn’t manage to, well, dodge.” He shuddered; it was ironic to him, how physical education had always been his least favorite class no matter how into sports he was-- His mother used to say it was because he didn’t like being bossed around, while his father would only smile proudly and state that the Ribeiros had been born to be with the ocean, and only the ocean. In the end, Noah guessed they were both right, to some degree. “Um, I don’t know? Maybe the guy making them thought it would be nice to mess around with the gringos at his place. Or maybe one of the dudes put it to make fun of me, I would not put that past any of my friends.” He chuckled. “Tacos sounds nice. I have the same problem, Lola hates that I always end up making us eat left overs for days whenever I cook.”
“I’m open to anyplace really.”
“There’s this little bar by the beach I usually go to, it’s really nice. We can even walk from here if you want to? It’s just down the street.”
xx
“OH, I bet, but my mom always managed, and there were eleven of us, so i have faith that i’ll be able to make it work. especially once my future kids are all in school. then you get like seven hours a day on your own.”
“Wait, eleven? Holy fuck, your mother is a hell of a woman to deal with eleven kids. And yeah, maybe, but you gotta work during those seven hours, so you barely have free time, because once you’re off work, the kids are off school.”
“Uh… Lil picture thingies? You’re such a grandpa.” Stevie couldn’t help but to laugh at him and his description of memes. “It might be years until I welcome my dear ol’ friend alcohol back into my life with open arms… Let’s see how long I last.”
“I’m not! I’m a cool dad, okay? I just don’t spend as much time on the internet as everyone else!” Noah replied, scoffing at being called a grandpa. “Just trust yourself and stay away from situations that might make you wanna drink and you’ll do fine.”
“Animals… That’s the one thing our kids have in common. Jamie loves them which is so weird because I never really took to them. My girlfr– uh– Maca just got him his own puppy and he swears he can’t sleep unless the damn mutt is in bed with him. He even had the gall to stand up, in the corner mind you, until I finally caved and let him sleep with the dog.”
Noah laughed, shaking his head. “I haven’t gotten Lola a dog yet, because I know I’ll be the one having to take care of it, and I already have her life in my hands, I really don’t need another one. I’m taking her to the shelter this weekend, though, let her play with the dogs for a while. It’s good for her to have that kind of love in her life, to learn to respect the little animals, and it’s nice for them to get some love too, I guess. Plus I get to sit around and stare at the ass of this gorgeous volunteer they have there, so it’s a win win for everyone.” He chuckled. “Well, at least if he keeps the dog in his bed you don’t have to go around the room pretending to hunt monsters, right? You can just tell him the dog will protect him and spare twenty minutes of the night for yourself.”
Miguel’s eyes widened in shock since he hadn’t really expected the man to have thought to even mention him. “I guess I’ll have that to look forward to,” he grinned, already making plans about how he had to make a good impression. Even though he didn’t know why it felt so necessary. “Is that really true? I had honestly missed that fact before. At least one of us was paying attention in class.” He shook his head in disbelief. How could a person go practically their entire life without eating authentic Mexican food when they lived in California. It was basically everywhere. “Do you remember what you ate? Just so that I don’t give you war flashbacks or anything. Since I’m supposed to be repaying you for volunteering.” He teased the other for his traumatic experience in Mexico.
Noah simply smiled at Miguel’s reaction, silently hoping he hadn’t scared him away. “I promise she isn’t annoying or anything, but she might not leave your side when we’re at the shelter.” He snickered. “I think it is? History was honestly the only class I enjoyed, but it has been a good few years since I even tried studying, so I might be wrong.” Noah was pretty sure he wasn’t, but he was definitely Googling that little piece of information as soon as he got home to make sure he wasn’t saying anything too stupid. He laughed, rolling his eyes. “I’m sure if you don’t go overboard on the spice we’ll avoid all war flashbacks. But either way, I’m pretty sure I had enchiladas. It reminded me of this little rolled up pancakes my mother used to make whenever she missed Brazil, but the Mexican version sure as fuck didn’t taste half as dull as my childhood dish.”

“Does she even know who I am? Because I’m pretty sure she didn’t even notice I was there when she was hugging all those puppies. I think you’re just trying to guilt trip me.” Miguel shrugged while trying to keep a straight face since he didn’t actually know if Abraham Lincoln had actually been a honest man. “Who knows, but why call him Honest Abe if he wasn’t all that honest. You’re probably right, though. I never actually paid attention in history class.” He burst out laughing at the other’s words. “Are you saying that you’ve never had authentic Mexican food? Because i’m pretty sure there must be a law that you’re breaking. We’re just going to have to change that now. I promise not to kill you.”
“Yeah, I mentioned you.” Noah shrugged, unsure how Miguel would take that. “Plus she is very excited to go volunteer, even if I told her she can’t exactly do it, so I’m sure you two will end up meeting at some point.” He said, a small smile tugging at his lips; if he knew his daughter, Noah was quite certain Lola would be smitten by Miguel the second she saw him, specially if he had dogs around him. “Listen, he was called Honest Abe before he ran for president. That sounds a little bit too much like he was just trying to promote himself in my opinion.” His smile widened at Miguel’s laugh. “I had it once, when I was eighteen and made a trip to Mexico with a few friends. It was so fucking spicy I literally could not eat it. I don’t remember a lot from that weekend, honestly, so I’m sure you could reintroduce me to Mexican food. Hopefully in a less traumatic way than the last time.”
“A meme? How do you not know what a meme is? They’re, literally, all over the Internet.” She shook her head. “I’m giving up on alcohol for a while.”
“Oh, the lil’ picture thingies? Yeah, I think I’ve seen it around.” Noah gave a small shrug. “You probably should give up alcohol for a long time, if it’s making you do that kind of thing.”
“He is a curious little thing. Loves to take things apart and learn how to put them together, especially things with wheels. And what is Lola like? What does she like to do? Yeah, I used to be more rebellious, less mature. Having Jamie kind of made me realize everything I was doing wrong and got my shit together.” And I had to do it all on my own.
“Really? Lola never cared much about that, she has a load of legos at home that she doesn’t even get close to.” Noah chuckled. “She’s the sweetest kid ever. Loves nature and animals; she is constantly running off to pet animals she sees on the street and I swear to God, that kid loves the ocean more than I do. Yeah, I get the feeling, I was ridiculously irresponsible before Lola.”
