So with NYCC less than two weeks away, I've decided to make a public post about it. I really really REALLY didn't want to do this. But this is unfortunately the fastest way to get their attention so that the pins can be pulled before the convention.

im rereading phantom of truth (i had to work up to it) and i’m at chapter 5 and so far nothing Too Awful has happened, and its just like. god. i feel like i’ve been out of the loop of the phandom in general and specifically the Hardcore Phandom Angst, and it’s just like. man. if you’d just fuckin stopped while you were ahead then all our problems would be solved, maddie. hey? hey maddie? would you consider paying attention to the fact that this ghost is clearly Feeling Emotions and Feeling Pain and take that under advisement, and then abscond with The Boy after doing nothing more invasive than some temperature-atmospheric-ghost fighting tests and taking some measurements and ectoplasm samples, and then you could be like ‘i’m changing tack! ghosts arent evil and can in fact feel pain, here is science’ and your son could be like ‘hey that was weird and awful but not really significantly weirder or more awful than a lot of the other miserable shit i’ve had to deal with’ and you could have just moved on with your lives???? and instead no everything is horrible. you’ve ruined a perfectly good ghost boy, is what you’ve done. look at him, he’s got ptsd.

Short answer: Where’s the fun in ruining perfectly good angst? Long answer: The inherent implications of Maddie’s attitude toward Phantom in the show makes for a perfect allegory to xenophobia (any-phobia for that matter) and the dangers of bias. Her dehumanization of him despite obvious signs to the contrary is an echo of many real-life examples where perpetrators of atrocities are ‘just doing their jobs’ and their victims ‘aren’t really people.’ Working with established characters afforded me the unique opportunity to have the reader deeply empathize with the victim and yet be able to see the tangled path of Maddie’s thought process and understand (if not sympathize with) why she went there. That’s the real draw for me, that Maddie is relatable. She’s not a psychopath. The scary reality is that you don’t have to be. Even a very logical, caring, emotionally stable person can be biased and perpetuate hate, intentionally or otherwise. That’s worth reflecting on.

 ok out of all of butch’s videos, for some reason no one ever talks about the Drawfee Knock-off characters video??? you know:

like, people talk about the 10 years later and 107 facts videos all the time, but i havent seen anyone ever discuss it, at all. 

 here are some highlights:

in the first 40 seconds they describe danny as: ““how ‘bout that, that, ghost boy that i so love?””oh that good ghost boy!! yeah!” “that ghastly fellow!” “GHASTLY DAN. i think””      i completely agree

im shocked the single phrase ”ghastly dan the spooky man” hasnt been spread everywhere like the plague

at 1:16 butch says” you’re right! you do have limiting drawing talent!” it hasnt even been two minutes and butch has already savagely roasted this poor drawfee guy
