Fâ˘Râ˘Iâ˘Eâ˘Nâ˘Dâ˘S, The One Where Underdog Gets Away (S01E09)
How do I switch careers?
Hi! I currently have a good job that allows me to live someone comfortably. However I donât get any satisfaction from it and it forces me to live in a city I donât like. I want to switch to something more meanful where I can help others or be a part of something bigger. Iâve started working towards my psych degree and would love to offer some kind of counselling once Iâm finished. My question is how do I switch from an art/technical position to something in social services. I donât have any qualifications (yet) but Iâd love to start working in that field. I guess I just donât know where to start. Any advice or insight would be amazing. Thank you!
Gotta start somewhere
Hello me, or anyone else who is so passing by. Hope this helps you get in the mood to study and work and achieve those goals youâve been keeping away in that dusty box called your brain Youâre meant to do and be, so much brighter . I hope you know that âş
no offense but youâre doing pretty fucking good lately, keep that shit up.
Work Smarter, Not Harder: study tips psychology taught me
study in shorter intervals and take breaks (ie, 40 minutes studying and 20 minutes break)
during your break donât watch tv or surf the internet. get outside if you can and go for a walk. or at least listen to some instrumental music and walk around your hall. or meditate or do some art. anything that doesnât require super directed attention. this allows your attention to be replenished. itâs like a muscle and you gotta give it time to rest. tv doesnât allow for that.
relate the information to yourself and your life. creating visual images will improve your memory.
when studying, take notes by hand and put them in your own words. generating material yourself will encode the material better in your brain, and youâll remember it better
donât just reread, rehearse! quiz yourself on the materials. if you use a visual image âmemory palaceâ technique, walk yourself through it. youâre likely to remember information youâve tested yourself on better.
organizing information into groups that make sense create more connections in your brain and allow you to remember things better. the more meaningful connections you make, the better.
make sure the last thing you do before bed is study. no phone, no netflix. your brain will process what youâve just done while you sleep and this improve recall.
(feel free to add any!)

 Sylvia Plath. 1932-1963
âI can never read all the books I want; I can never be all the people I  want and live all the lives I want. I can never train myself in all the  skills I want. And why do I want? I want to live and feel all the shades,  tones and variations of mental and physical experience possible in  life. And I am horribly limited.âÂ
Iâll marry a man who knows how I take my tea, coffee, and alcohol â and knows when to make which.

4|100 days of productivity
Guess who has a Leuchtturm bujo now? Thatâs right me! I just couldnât resist any longer. I think I stood for at least ten minutes in my bookshop and debated between a trusty old moleskine and this cutie. Now Iâm looking for some inspo to set it up in a nice way  ・^âż^・
Hey babes! As requested, hereâs a roundup of my favorite study tips that Iâve picked up over the years. Happy studying!
studying for exams
Create a study group and meet regularly (not just before exams!)
âTeachâ the material to someone â your pet works well!
Keep a list in the front of your notebook/binder of topics or points that seem important enough to be on the exam, that confuse you, or that youâre interested in so you can go back and study them.
Study a little over a long period when you can, instead of cramming for an entire exam in one night.
Create a âcheat sheetâ of important information for studying on the go.
Try the Pomodoro method to keep from getting burnt out.
Try creating a timetable for studying so you donât spend too long on a certain subject and run out of time for the others.
Knock out your least favorite subject first, so you can have the rest of the day to work on more enjoyable subjects and relax.Â
Create a study guide for the class using Google Docs that you can all contribute to.
If youâre unclear about something, Google it. Thereâs more than likely a video that can explain it more clearly than your textbook.
Keep a running list of questions to ask during office hours, & actually go!
Study in a public place (the library, a coffee shop) so that youâre less likely to get distracted watching cat videos knowing people can see what youâre doing.Â
Get plenty of rest the night before an exam! Cramming is not worth it.
homework tips
Write everything down, even if you think youâll remember it.
Keep a planner and check it first thing in the morning.
Do the work for your least favorite class first so that itâs out of the way.
Start early. Way earlier than you have to. That way you have time for delays, to start over if you have to, or to take a night off to go to a party.Â
If itâs something quick, like a worksheet, do it as soon as itâs assigned.
If you have a long break between classes, use it to work on small assignments that you can get out of the way.
For big projects, like papers and presentations, break it up into smaller pieces. âWrite thesisâ is a lot less daunting than âwrite 8 page paperâ.
Do homework before you study, so youâll know what youâre confused about and need to pay more attention to.Â
If thereâs an option to buy an ebook rather than a physical copy of the textbook, do it. Not only is it usually cheaper, but it frees up space in your bag and you can search for specific terms easily.
If you have a lot of work to catch up on, set aside a block of time to knock it all out at once (with breaks, of course).
If all the homework for a class is due at the end of the semester, give yourself due dates for the individual assignments so you donât put it off and have to do it all at once.Â
Install a site blocker so you donât get distracted from your work.
If you have an online class, schedule a regular time to work on it as if it were a traditional class. Â
Donât just Google your way through the homework! It may save time now, but itâll only make things harder when itâs time for exams.
