Truthfully, Everett wasn’t sure why he had even bothered. He should’ve just dropped it. 

So what if Nicholas seemed a bit off today? So what if he was being extra evasive? 

It wasn’t his problem. Outside of an aggravating forty five minutes a day, five days a week, Nicholas Rush was not his problem. Everett definitely wasn’t out to change that.

So, yeah, he should’ve just dropped it. But he didn’t.

It wasn’t out of spite either. Something persuaded him to push a little further, past the unspoken boundary that governed their interaction. Call it intuition.

Or maybe common decency. 

“Listen, I have some painkillers in my bag. Just ibuprofen, nothing fancy, but it’ll get you through class.”

 he flinched for a moment letting the words sink in. As much as it pained him to admit the other boy did have a point, though in true nichloas rush fashion he would not let him revel in such a victory.  so he just kept quiet letting his thoughts drift away from the situation, his mind falling once again back the reason of the questions. nick had to quickly grab himself away from the memories of last night he would truly lose his RESOLVE if he did and everett would know the truth. and that was the last thing rush wanted, his life on the line because he couldn’t keep his mouth shut. and because he couldn’t bare the pain for one single second longer. 

he stopped his thought process and brought himself back to reality the moment the other boys words were uttered. rush was battling himself now, and as the pain in his arm grew the pills seemed all the more inviting. but yet it took everything in him to tell himself ( no i don’t need them ) reluctantly he scoffed and shook his head. ‘ i don’t need your charity ‘ the words slipped out through gritted teeth.  ‘ nor do i want it ‘

Nick flinched at his words, so he hadn’t bought it then? well there was still a chance he could lie his as off. If there was one thing he was good at it was lying, his parents were the only ones who would know so he gave that up at home a long time ago. Everyone else how ever, he was quite good at fooling them. Perhaps Everette was more perceptive then the rest, but that didn’t mean he would be able to figure out what was going on. Not if Nick has anything to say about it.

“That is what really happened I - “ he cut off his words and his face went pale. Damn it the boy was on to him and Nick found himself sweating his his seat. What if he figured it out, what if he told someone, what if. No he couldn’t think like that Nicholas had to remain calm and hope for the best.

At the mention of going to a doctor he became even more nervous, he wasn’t good under pressure and his father had made sure of that. There was only so many time you could ram a kid face first into a wall before they cracked immediately.

“And who says I didn’t get it checked out already” his voice quite as he hoped the other boy would desperately believe him this time.
