To such an end, why do so many hate ugly things? That thing being ugly doesn’t hurt you. A boxy building. A drab-colored dress. A gaudy kitchen decoration.

Look away if you choose. But this “ugliness” is a fixture of life. And life is beautiful in more ways than I can communicate to the reader.

The concept of one country being inherently “bad” and another one being contrastively inherently “good” is something that the far-right and much of the so-called far left both seem to believe, though usually with different countries.

They do it in the same way as well. They believe these countries to be good or bad ostensibly because of the actions of said country’s government, but even a cursory peek under the surface will tell you that it has always been because they view a country as an extension of the people living within it and they DISLIKE said people group.

Sure, a country will always be better represented by its people rather than its government. However, where I disagree with these insane internet folks is that I don’t view any people group negatively because of any perceived sleight by them or perceived shortcomings of them as a group.

“But what about (x country)” NO! That country also has good people in it and your hatred of that people is most likely a manifestation of your culturally Christian need to assign “original sin” or “sins of the father” to an entire people.

If it’s not that, then it’s just good old fashioned tribal hatred, which is 1.) primal and 2.) wrong and based exclusively in prejudice

At least the far right has the pelotas to admit that they’re bigoted.

Something that always hits me square in the chest around June every year is the fact this:

For the majority of my childhood and into my young adulthood, the oldest queer person I knew was 15 years (or less) older than myself.

There were queer people in my family, actually.

My great aunt was a butch lesbian, but we lost her in the early ‘90s because of a lack of access to healthcare.

Additionally, two of my cousins were robbed from my family by AIDS in the 80s/90s.

I should’ve had so many more queer role models, but I didn’t.
