The September Cover I recently illustrated for Halifax’s Curated Food & Drink Magazine. The Cover Story this issue is on Boxing Rock Brewing and Tatamagouche Brewing Co.  

Coming up with an idea I liked for this was really challenging and after hours of doodling and deleting I drew the Octopus which led to a street parade where I was able to use their awesome logos and branding with Halifax’s diverse craft beer community as the backdrop. 

The hardest part for me is always getting an idea I’m happy with and an idea  that works with the layout of the text and works with the magazine’s brand. It’s always a mental juggling act.  Anything I’ve ever come up with I have to doodle and sketch randomly until my brain shuts off and I stop overthinking/stressing and let the ideas appear on their own until I arrived at one I want to continue on with. This can take minutes or hours, but once I get the idea and get into that headspace I can relax and have fun adding in the filler and incidentals (like my sad dog in the bottom left corner) and enjoy the clean up and colour process.
