it's so insane to me that Peter doesn't know Erik's his dad when he goes to break him out of the Pentagon. He doesn't even know he's Magneto until the elevator conversation! He knew literally nothing and still signed up for this incredibly risky prison break

How long do you think it took for Steve to really process Bucky was dead? After the train, I mean.

How long did he make an extra cup of coffee? Or see an article in the newspaper and tear it out to show Bucky? How often did he yell Bucky’s name, thinking he was just in the next room?

Do you think he ever stopped looking for his face in a crowded room?

Maybe he thought his eyes were playing tricks on him- every brunette could be mistaken for Bucky from behind, until they turned their head and the illusion was shattered.

Bucky wasn’t in the bunker, he wasn’t at a bar, he certainly wasn’t in New York when Steve woke up in 2011.

So when the Winter Soldier caught his shield on that rooftop and Steve saw his crystal green-blue eyes and brunette hair, he knows it’s just his mind playing tricks on him again.

Because Bucky was dead.

Pietro’s mutation makes it so that sleep isn’t accessible to him. Even when he’s beyond exhaustion, his brain is awake. Constantly moving, even when he’s glued still.

Only Wanda had the ability to put him to sleep. She granted him the much needed levity from the hellscape that is his own conscious. For just a few hours, Pietro was allowed a dreamless state of sleep. His tireless thoughts could finally be put at rest in that small window of time. He no longer had have to feel chained in a prison of his own making. He didn’t have to feel anything. Just an empty void without the dread and frustration that so often accompanied him.

Maybe it was possible since they’re twins, or Wanda’s powers were just that grand. Maybe it’s both.

Not like any of that matters anymore, because he’s still here and she isn’t.

Her absence was loud and a prominent feature in their home. Her claimed spot on the lounge remained vacant. An extra plate sat uselessly in the cupboard, clean and unused. Her bedroom door that always remained closed no matter what, was wide open. All revealing the desolate space she was meant to fill.

An emptiness he once sought for, became his agony. Now he’s forced to walk this unmoving earth without her and be tormented by the void she left behind.

Without her, his mind will never know sleep again.
