Where were you When everything was falling apart?
“Are you sure you don’t want any? If you leave this in front of me it’s going to disappear and I’m not going to feel even a little sorry.“
“Oh, yeah, I’m not really that hungry.” Scotty nudged the plate further in front of her. “Gotta drop a few pounds anyways.” They patted their stomach with a little laugh.
“Personally – and I hope I’m not being a hassle, I believe red roses are always the best pick if you want to spice up your relationship, but the yellow ones are great for a ‘get well soon’ note. The orange roses are great for crushes, but I’d recommend the daffodils if they’re for a friend… Or maybe you’re looking for something else?”
Scotty nodded his head a bit dumbly, trying to keep up with what she was saying, “W-Well, I don’t really know. What would you recommend for a first date? Would red roses seem too.. cliche?”
“MOST OF the stuff they say to try doesn’t work very well, honestly, but i’m sure there’s something out there that’ll work for you. you might wanna be more careful about passing out in public. you might get mugged, or something.”
“yeah, I just haven’t found what works for me yet. oh gosh, that would be awful. i guess i just have to drink caffeine while i’m out so i don’t fall asleep again.”
“You know, I haven’t actually read it but I did see the movie. Which I know sounds very lame,” Minnie said, laughing self-consciously. “I’ve been really busy here, so I haven’t had a lot of time for reading but maybe I’ll look it up.”
“I watched the movie before I read the book. Don’t worry,” Scotty reassured with a little smile, “That’s understandable. I don’t imagine you have much spare time.”
her eyes were wild with confusion, her heartbeat pumping hard in her veins as she stared at him, his words swimming in her head. he was her soulmate. they shared the same mark, they were supposed to be together, to know each other, be the closest people in each other’s lives. it was strange, to have this moment happening right now, an actual real tangible thing in existence. she could reach out and touch him— he was real. she didn’t know what to do. “oh my god,” she muttered, hands clasped over her mouth as it was agape, staring at him. “oh my god. oh my god. oh my—” she shook her head a little before she launched herself at him, arms going around his neck tightly, clinging to him. “oh my god. you’re my soulmate,” she said, her mind instantly snapping awake, feeling synced with him. “i’m forest,” she muttered against his neck. “forest winslow.”
scotty made a noise of surprise as she suddenly flung herself at him, and he held onto her tightly. a grin spread across his lips, and he nodded his head as best as he could, “you’re my soulmate.” the fact that he could actually hold her in his arms, the one person he was made for, he held her closer just to reassure himself that this was really happening. “forest.. that’s such a pretty name.” he said, nuzzling against her softly. scotty closed his eyes, running his hand up and down her spine gently, “i--i can’t believe i found you.” in a strip club of all places, but he wasn’t really complaining, he found her that’s all that really mattered. he carefully pulled away a little just so he could admire her, “gosh, you’re really beautiful.”
“Well you’re doing better than I would then, I’d never leave the house if I was you. Though if you’re on a few TV shows I guess you have no choice. Should I be asking for your autograph?”
“I try not to if I’m being honest. Well, you wouldn’t be the first to ask for my autograph.”
It’s sad that the most toxic relationship I have ever had is with my own mother.

Ava couldn’t help but giggle at the accent, it was cute, to hear him talk like that. “Well you like, totally, sound like you’re from Cali.” She said smirking. “I actually–Only know a bit of whats been happening. I mean, I’ve seen it on the news but I feel like we don’t get the whole story just from the news.” She said with a sad little sigh as well. “Be ready for anything” she repeated. “I think I can do that…well…hopefully.” She added a second later as her eyes scanned the room, she quickly made her way over to the coffee shop and ordered “What do you want?” She asked, more than happy to pay for his drink as well.
Scotty giggled a little themself. They nodded their head, “Right. I just try to stay out of that stuff as much as I can,” They said with a little shrug, “Figure it’s easier that way.” They sighed again. They followed her to the coffee shop in the store, and they hummed, “Mocha frappuccino, please,” They ordered, pulling out their wallet, “Don’t worry about paying. I’ve got this.” They said with a smile. Scotty had more money than they knew what to do with so they figured that they could help Ava save a few dollars.
“Hey, it’s the right thing to do, right?” Lark joined Scotty on the floor and began gathering up napkins as well. “At least it wasn’t liquids. That would be a pain in the ass to clear up.”
Scotty smiled gratefully at them, before they went back to the task at hand, “That would’ve been horrible.” They said, sighing as the scooped a few more handfuls of napkins into the box, “Thank you again. I’ll give you half off your iced coffee as a thank you.”
“It’s nice to officially meet you too, Scotty,” Minnie said cheerfully. She tried to get to know her customers when possible, although sometimes it just didn’t happen. “What are you reading?”
Scotty smiled, before they blinked and looked down at their book, “Oh, Perks of Being A Wallflower.” They said, holding the book up so that she could see, “I really like it so far. Have you ever read it?”
“I’m utterly afraid of zombies, can’t watch anything with them in. So if there was a zombie apocalypse plan A would come into action where I shoot myself and burn the house down so that I will never become a zombie. And wow I just said Zombie three times…….four times.”
“Me too, I’ve even been on TV shows that are zombie related and I’m still afraid. That sounds like the best plan. I don’t know what it is about zombies that scary me so much.. well then again i am kinda afraid of everything. Once I even got scared of my own shadow.”
Alex grinned and sat down, smiling over at Scotty and Riley. “I still see her as a puppy, for sure. I’ve had her since she was weaned from her mom. We trained her to respond if I have a seizure, and she detects them which was an unexpected bonus.”
Scotty looked between the two of them, “Oh wow, really?” They ask, scratching under Riley’s chin with a giggle, “She’s a service dog then? Should I leave her alone then?”
quite literally the last thing forest would ever be expecting when giving someone a lap dance was to find out they were here soulmate. she hears him exclaim, but doesn’t pay it much mind, chalks it up to the fact that maybe his downstairs is getting a little excited from her dance. and besides, she’s really into her routine right now. she furrows her brows, not understanding his stammering until he’s rolling up his sleeve and she pushes herself from his lap, turning and staring down at him as he shows her his wrist. even in the low lighting, she knows that she’s looking at a mark that is identical to the one on her shoulder, and her jaw just drops immediately. “you’re—? you’re my soulmate?” she asks, suddenly very confused.
scotty is still staring at her with his jaw dropped a little, as his eyes flickered from her mark on her shoulder to his own. of all the ways that he imagined meeting his soulmate he never thought that he’d end up meeting them at a strip club, or by them giving him a lap dance. he nods his head slowly, “uh huh,” he says, before he stands up, covering his mark up again, mostly out of habit. he wasn’t totally sure what to do now, considering it was a bit of a strange situation. he cleared his throat a little, “.... i--i’m scotty hastings. i’m your soulmate..” he says with a nervous smile, tugging on his sleeve gently. he figured he could at least introduce himself properly.
SHE NODDED softly in understanding. “i get you. i’ve heard that tea and honey works really well for that. didn’t really work for me, but maybe it’ll help you.”
They sighed with a little shake of their head. “i’ve tried that it doesn’t work. i’ve got insomnia, so i just kinda stay awake until i crash, and i guess i just crashed in public today.”
