Do you have any tips for writing Scooby talking in a fic?
My rule of thumb is to change the first letter of any given word to R.
When the word is to small for the change to make sense add an R at the beginning.
If the word has already an R sound I tend to leave it like that (especially if adding an R will turn it into a new word)
Example:
Hi! How are you doing?
Rhi! Row are rou roing?
Most of the time you can understand what each word means by context but mostly I tend to not give Scooby long dialogues as it can get tiring to mentally translate.
So instead when Scooby has to say something that goes over a paragraph I go “Scooby explained that…” or “Scooby said…” and just write a normal paragraph without the Scooberism

SD really enjoys having Shaggy and Scooby as the resident scaredy-cats be the ones to love/befriend the monsters and I eat it up every time. Because, of course these guys are going to care and look after the Grimwood Girls even though their fathers are the stuff are nightmares. Yeah, they’re going to fall in love with Crystal and Amber and miss them even after their true forms are revealed. They’re going to become like family with Vincent Van Ghoul and pals with the Boo Brothers and when Shaggy thinks he’s going to turn into a vampire, Scooby still sticks by his side because he’s always going to love him more than he could be afraid of him. Because even though Shaggy and Scooby’s main trait is cowardice whenever there was an opportunity, they overcame it with compassion.
Fun Scooby-Doo fact I just realized: Fred is the only member of the gang who has not yet recieved a Werewolf form (as of 2024)
Velma: gets turned into a Werewolf by a wizard in Scooby-Doo! and the Goblin King (2009)
Daphne: gets turned into a Werewolf by a ghost curse in The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo (1985)
Shaggy: gets turned into a Werewolf by Dracula (and his hunch bunch) in Scooby-Doo! and the Reluctant Werewolf (1988)
Scooby-Doo: gets turned into a Werewolf (human) in a nightmare Shaggy has in Big Top Scooby-Doo! (2012)
In 2004 Warner Bros launched a new Scooby-Doo merch/style line called "Scooby-Doo A Girl's Best Friend". This was a line that was supposed to make Scooby-Doo more appealing to young girls, with heart motifs, plenty of pink, and an emphasis on Fun, Creativity, and Friendship. I recently aquired an official style guide for this line; a book that was sent to potential licensed contractor companies detailing the general style, tone, artwork, and rules for making merchandise in this line. The book came with a cd-rom full of vectorized images for use in merchandise and the like!! And I've exported them for you!!
This is the character art for Scooby himself, the only mainline character to be featured in this line. You can see his collar is now a bright pink, and his shoulder spot has been made firmly into a heart. He's got a lineless style with and emphasis on curves and angles that form hearts. It almost makes me think of UPA cartoons, but that may just be me. Note: I exported all of these at the scale they were originally at, so theyre all around 200*300 pixels. If you'd like any in a larger size lmk and I can export it as such, theyre vectorized after all!!
(check the reblogs for more art from this line)
HAPPY SCOOBY-DOO DAY!
Boo! It’s the 55th anniversary of the Scooby Doo Gang! (Aka it’s Scooby Doo Day 2024) 55 years since they first debuted back on September 13th 1969 on television and they’ve remained iconic ever since! The Mystery Inc themselves; Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Shaggy Rogers and Velma Dinkley + our favourite hungry and iconic Great Dane; Scoobert “Scooby-Doo” Doo! 55 years of mystery solving, monster hunting and jinkies, hilarious spooky adventures! Happy 55 years to this iconic mystery gang!
The Scooby gang are friends. The Scooby gang are BEST FRIENDS. THEY ARE BEST FRIENDS AND THEY LOVE EACH OTHER SO MUCH. THEY TRAVEL AROUND SOLVING MYSTERIES FOR AS LONG AS THEY CAN BECAUSE THEY HAVE A PASSION FOR IT AND BECAUSE IT MEANS THEY GET TO SPEND TIME TOGETHER WITH EACH OTHER. THEY ARE BEST FRIENDS.
They don’t hate each other. Maybe they get annoyed and cause they’re together all the time it might get a bit much sometimes but at the end of the day, they really deeply care about each other. They live out of a van most of the time and are on the road constantly out of CHOICE. TOGETHER. for crying out loud.
They are four teenagers and a Great Dane. They’re a family.
Anyone looking to make a proper Scooby-Doo adaptation please remember:
Fred is the charismatic face of the group and the strategizer. Later adaptations made him a massive himbo who chugs respect for women juice and those have become necessary parts of his character.
Shaggy is cowardly but also incredibly resourceful; let us not forget his skill at ventriloquism. Make Shaggy the skill monkey, who every episode mentions some weird skill he has that's previously unmentioned; that'd be an amazing running gag. Also, bring back the dry humor Casey Kasem injected into the og character.
Scooby is Shaggy's best friend, the other half to his two-man comedy routine. Independently of Shaggy, Scooby is also prone to be a bit mischievous and just kind of a little scamp. Play up both of those things.
Velma is the smart nerdy one, who also had a really dry sense of humor. I don't know why she was turned into the "I'm surrounded by idiots" character because, while as I stated, she always had a dry sense of humor, she was never mean to her friends and never talked down to them, or anyone else. Bring back the chipper Velma from like Witch's Ghost or Zombie Island. Let Velma be a little cutie pie. Also keep her as a lebian
Daphne was... originally really just "The Girly One" but later adaptations have fleshed her out, like making her essentially the muscle of the group, which is just amazing and should continue. She's also been cast as the oddly resourceful one. Shaggy is the skill monkey, Daphne is the one who has a tool for literally any job. Human Swiss Army Knife, which again, would be an amazing running gag.
Have Shaggy and Daphne bounce off-the-wall ideas for a plan together, Fred steps in to ground them, while still using their ideas, and incorporating Velma's theories about the case.
Make references to Flim Flam and Hot Dog Water
A Scooby-Doo adaptation should not be difficult, and must be done with love.
Happy birthday to the best boy
