Really fucking irritating that non-indigenous people suddenly are horrified at the thought of residential schools like natives haven’t been telling y’all for decades how brutal they were & how the generational trauma from those schools is insane. You see native kids in a foster home & think they probably got out of a bad situation, i see another child taken from their home & ripe for abuse/discrimination. You see a dirty native drunk & passed out down town, i see a residential school survivor still in pain trying to cope. You see native bums on the reservation living off of welfare, i see a community that had its country turn its back on them trying to pay for their silence.
We’re still in pain. We always have been you all just chose to ignore us until you couldn’t anymore.
There's another post on here where this woman talks about dating a rich guy and she was like "oh you can't drink alcohol on a public sidewalk here" and he was like "Sure you can -- it's $500." Like he'd done it often enough that he had the "price" memorized.
the word "privilege" comes from the Latin privilegium, meaning "private law," or law granting one person or group benefits others don't enjoy
I remember reading an article about Koch Industries that said they just budget in fines for violating environmental regulations and lawsuit settlements for damage and accidents caused by broken pipelines -- it’s cheaper than installing cleaner, safer equipment.
Fines that aren’t adjusted to the means of the violator are worse than useless.
Punishable by fine = legal for the rich
