You know, by rewatching DnA, I can really understand how stressful Sawamura was in the last inning against Inashiro.

He never closed a game. When he came into play was to save the team from tricky situations, especially while they were losing. Sawamura has absolutely no experience with teams that are taking him seriously, especially not in games with the Koushien on the line.

Like, I know that Kataoka had little other options here and that, let’s be honest people, he’s biased towards Sawamura, but it’s like Tanba said: Sawamura was the Seidou’s ace right then and there. He didn’t have the number on his back, but they dumped that title’s responsibilities on him (and I could argue that this was not the first game they did so, but let’s ignore that for now) because they thought he could handle it. THE BOY WAS NOT GIVEN ANY GUIDANCE AS HOW TO DEAL WITH SUCH PRESSURE and he broke. Simple and clean (do not start singing, me).

I dunno where I’m going with this, but it’s like they all finally understood that Sawamura was human and a damn REALLY inexperienced player. He is from the boonies, for god’s sake. He basically had never won a game. He basically never actually played baseball right. And “suddenly” he’s up against one of the strongest teams in the country and has to give said team the finishing blow. Like, wtf. Rewatching this makes you realize how f*cked they all were.
