None of you asked for this, but heres some things I wish I knew before all those art blocks I had. (Bare with me)
- Art isn't a talent. It's practise. The only reason I hate when people tell me that they can only draw a stick figure is because every time it happens, I get the urge to tell them that they indeed CAN draw something other then a stick figure if they put their time to it which they choose not to. Which is fine. But yk. I dont really care that you cant. Just. Dont brag about it. Thats weird.
- It's your first attempt at drawing that side profile and you choose to give up cause it dosen't look good enough? News flash, it does look like trash cause guess what?
It's your FIRST time drawing it.
And it may not look how you want it to to the second or the third of the 14th time, but Laonardo Davincis first panting was in fact not the Mona Lisa, the dude was just as "bad" as you are when he started. You are also not bad at it, you are new at it.
- Like what you draw. If you want to get good at drawing something just for the sake of perfecting it, you are literally missing the whole point of art - it is not perfect. Its called art cause you can do whatEVER you want. And I understand wanting to improve which is totally fine, but if you only improve TO improve, you're gonna start rezenting the very thing that was enjoyable to you when you first started making art, which, circling back, is the whole point.
- if you feel like you are stuck in a constant loop of making art your way and not changing anything, just constantly doing it over and over and over again, start as you usualy would, but force yourself to do the opposite of what you would draw. For example, if you usualy draw a tall figure with no curves and fluffy hair, instead draw a short figure with a lot of curves and completly straight hair.
This is gonna help you break out of the bubble you didn't even know you were in.
(This goes with any kind of art. Not just character design, but its what I mostly do so I am not very familiar with the rest as much.)
