I can't write fiction because I don't understand people. I can't come up with plausible interactions between characters at all. I don't know what people other than I would think. But poetry is different. It doesn't require me to know people. 'I' and 'you' are just signifiers that appear briefly like passing shadows. When composing a poem a whole world is in my hands, and I can do anything to it. The heaven does not speak, but words speak to me.

That slow rise,

The world below getting smaller

And smaller

Until it's an indistinguishable blob of blended colors

And loose approximations of people.

A view of the whole thing

The biggest picture

Take it in.

We'll only be here for a moment

Before we're let go

Falling

Until we sink into the blob ourselves.

No work of art should exist for more than a century. There's nothing more demoralizing than the realization that every song is already sung, every poem already felt and every book already written.

We did it.

Humanity has, "won".

The entire breadth of our condition has been explored and dissected. Nothing I say would contribute,

See the same sky again,

But the sea wanting the sky,

Doesn’t mean she has no memory

She just doesn't show.
