I HATE the fact that physicians advertise their services and reputations during the wait time of an appointment phone call.
Doctors who are careful get a second opinion for complex patients, knowing that it may take up time of another busy physician. They prioritize their patient’s safety over everything.
One thing I look forward to at my work is quietly reading The tenant of Wildfell Hall. It is an interesting story and especially stimulating to me because the author is a brontë. These sisters’ writing style and content is too tier imo.
However, tonight’s shift so steadily occupyied my time that I had no time at all to look at my book. The physician was particularly efficient too, taking great care to see pts asap, and to release patients as soon as possible.
How lucky are we to have public libraries and librarians? May only good things happen to them all.
A doctor I worked with complimented my HPI notes when she found out I’m sort of new to the work. She was exceptionally kind with her words.
I’m lucky to not have found anyone even slightly evil in my workplace up till now. Either I am naïve or purely lucky. Whatever the case, I’m enjoying my time!
Today I noticed that most doctors converse.
By doing this, they:
• guide their juniors.
• learn from their seniors.
• collaborate to make the best decisions.
• mix their personal life with work.
• laugh and joke.
• show care and concern for each other.
• replace their boredom with growth and learning.
As a scribe, I get to watch doctors do their work from very close. One new thing I saw that surprised me is how most doctors strongly prefer to work together with another doctor if they are available.
You will notice them frequently having a conversation about a patient, trying to figure out what their disgnosis could be and how it could be made.
Today was my first solo shift as a scribe, which was also a night shift. Only four hours into the shift, the doctor told me that I could leave. I was incredulous at first. I had expected and prepared for a long shift with moments of extreme sleepiness. I drank one cup of coffee before the shift and took another cup with me for later. What a pleasant surprise I received!
Everyone was so kind in their own style. A fellow scribe left a note saying good luck and her number so I could ask any questions I had. One of the docs educated me politely on what not to put on an exam for a very young baby. Another doc sent ne home extremely early.
What a memorable first solo sift! One word summarizes it, kindness.
The doctor was dictating the MDM and said, “Rash associated with…”
So there I am, typing in shortcut, “rash ass with …” while the doctor is literally watching my screen.
I kept going like nothing happened, but that “ass” was BURNING my eyes the whole time. 💀
