12. Favorite horror book(s).

It's gotta be We Have Always Lived in The Castle by Shirley Jackson, Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, and Night of A Thousand Hells by Intan Paramaditha! The three authors have a lot of really good horror books, but those are my favorite from them. Stuff I've read recently are The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters and The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and I liked both of them too!

As for horror tropes/genre, ouughhh idk. I reallyyyy, really love when siblings are doomed. I love troubled girls. I love mothers haunting their child and vice versa. I love big, isolated, atmospheric place. I love genderfuckery. I love exploration of faith. I love lesbians.

17. Favorite finished book series.

I'm mostly a stand-alone guy 😭 so, Lord of The Rings. At the risk of sounding delusional, before this year ends I could say also A Song of Ice and Fire #mydelusion

20. Where and how do you find new books to read?

I almost exclusively get my recs from blogs and websites lmao. I used to follow a lot of wordpress and blogspot sites, before a lot of them just stopped updating or I lost the address. Nowadays I mostly search stuff I want to read on google or through my trusted blogs I follow here (my silm mutuals, conclave mutuals, and lesbian mutuals seem to give me the most accurate recs based on my tastes so shoutout to them! #mymutuals)

7. What kind of common romance tropes do you enjoy and what kind do you dislike?

For dislike, I hate stuff with power dynamics like a significant age gap, someone's in a position/role of power of the other, etc. I will usually DNF it, though Heavenly Tyrant was so good I was just horrifically stressed the entire time.

I'm not sure what common tropes I do like, maybe forced proximity? I think enemies or rivals to lovers can be super fun, but it's hard to pull off. Really I'm trying to think what romance tropes I keep writing about haha

8. Favorite queer fiction book(s).

It's been a while since I've read queer fiction really. Though of the 104 books I've tracked on storygraph, 20 are marked LGBTQIA+

We Are Okay - Nina LaCour (very sad and good, made me cry)

On a Sunbeam - Tillie Walden (beautiful graphic novel, I'd love a physical copy)

and more recently:

The Warden - Daniel M. Ford (though we haven't gotten to much of the romance bc she was so busy doing her job)

Maybe Will from Ranger's Apprentice but that's just because that series rewired my brain at a formative age.

The Weight of Our Sky by Hanna Alkaf ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Di mana bumi dipijak, di situ langit dijunjung. Have you heard this before? It means where we plant our feet is where we must hold up the sky. We live and die by the rules of the land we live in. But this country belongs to all of us! We make our own sky, and we can hold it up—together.”

The story is set up in the city of Kualalumpur (Malaysia) during the 1969 racial riots between Chinese and Malays. The author has documented the painful history with so much depth. We see the onset of this carnage through the eyes of our protagonist. Everything is in chaos, and everyone is trying to either kill or save each other. Outside, there is hatred and a desire to destroy, the streets are devoid of humanity and inside, in the dark alleyway, a little shop, a house there is love for humanity, a desire to save one another. I really loved the portrayal of every character, and you can see the efforts that have been made towards researching such a difficult and agonizing part of a country's history. I hope we continue to learn more about our past and learn from it. Highly recommend this book.

uh.... just one?😭 okay, objectively I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman was amazing and the whole reason im reading dystopians rn. but also A Magical Girl Retires by Park Seolyeon made me so happy about reading that i genuinely think its why im having such a great reading year

15 - Which genre(s) are your favorite?

Oh for sure my favorite genre is fantasy, however uni hell makes me not up to it often bc my brain really can't handle all the worldbuilding while studying, so I usually gravitate to YA contemporary. Currently Im in a bit of a dystopian phase, which is also being so fun

24 - Favorite Young Adult book(s). ooh this is a hard question. Im going to limit myself to only choose standalones, also bc I haven't read any YA series in a while lmao

19. Do you read new and less known books or only the big bestsellers?

Probably somewhere in the middle. I've definitely read less mainstream authors who were promoting themselves, but I also read a lot of mainstream books. I think a lot of what I read is relatively recent, published within the the last 5 years.

i don't think i'd had any books that were favorite to the point of obsession until mom bought me a bunch from the warrior cats series when i was 12 >///< that was when i started reading daily and nightly, ignoring even the beautiful sights on our family trips hahaha.. i always had a book with me and bugged everyone with my excitement so much that i've had my books ripped by my classmates ;-; but they brought me so much joy, especially when i joined forum RPGs and started role playing as my very own wild cat !! and i ran around the playground imagining i was one until i was almost 15 too! what about you??

ohh i love the second question a lot but i don't think i have any characters in mind at the moment.. but usually they're young men from romantic novels of the 19th century that are mysterious, depressed and don't fit into the real world :з i'm not sure if i actually have anything in common with them, but i've always been drawn to romanticism haha

Btw the heat *is* why we see water that's not really there, but mirages aren't exactly hallucinations so much as optical illusions:

It's just the changing density of the air refracting light weirdly, so it looks like there's a reflection of the sky on the ground, which our brains often interpret as a pool of water. It can also happen upwards instead of downwards, especially at sea, when the air is much colder near the surface and a warm front appears above it:

Which, btw, is one possible explanation for ghost ship sightings, so that's fun :)
