60 years ago today in 1959, a family of four cowboys living in the old west came galloping into our TV screens. In a time where westerns were plenty and almost all shows were exclusivity in black and white, Bonanza stood out among them.
Unlike the other westerns about a lone gunman who shot his way into making peace, this show was about a family of a single father and his sons. The Cartwright’s cared about eachother and their community, talking their way into solving problems before even thinking about raising their guns.
A show that was almost cancelled in it’s first season, and then went on to make another 14, becoming one of the most popular and loved shows of the time. 60 years later and the show and it’s messages of love, acceptance and kindness still live on to this day.
