The Boiling Isles was always the Collector’s playground.
Okay so here’s my take. The murals we see in FTF show the others of the Collector’s species looking at a specific planet and then descending upon it. Our Collector is purple, others of the species are dark blue. All collectors have yellow eyes. And titans have red eyes.
(The hat strings of the four older collectors having a connection to the planetary murals is probably something, but I haven’t pieced it into the theory yet. Perhaps how they “observe” the planets they collect from?)
Why the boiling isles? Maybe, like we saw with the owl beast, they’d collected all they needed to of the original, non-titan inhabitants to warrant a basically world wide “cleanse”.
Then, they don the heads of titans. That warrior in the back isn’t King’s dad, or a titan trapper. It’s a collector. The yellow eyes stick with the figure through the murals.
Titans are portrayed with red eyes in the mural series.
That’s what the mural in King’s tower was. A warning. A history of what happened to other titans with the enemy front and center.
An enemy that is later used as the basis for how the titan trappers dress, followers of the Collector, or possibly the others of his species.
With the titans defeated, they claimed the eggs they’d been protecting, specifically to play with their youngest! The Collector, as his semi-immortal playmates.
Until they started to grow up…or until someone trapped the Collector, a kid whose been shown to be extremely protective of King. Perhaps he got too protective…or crossed a boundary he shouldn’t have.
The titans all being young is accurate, because all the full grown ones were killed a long time ago in a war for the planet with the collectors. The oldest and largest skull found at the titan trapper base was likely only a teenager in titan years based on how large they get, maybe one of the Collector’s original playmates.
