scxsungkyung:
sungkyung breathed in and out deeply, trying her best not to feel overwhelmed. sometimes, when her daughter began to cry, she just didn’t know how to handle it. seeing her hurt, that just made it one hundred times worse. “yes, this is who i was talking about,” she exclaimed, kissing the top of kyungri’s head gently which seemed to quiet down the toddler. soon enough, she was squirming in her arms, which indicated that she wanted to be let down. gently, sungkyung set her down, placing her closer to where she had something to hold onto. she was still unable to really walk, so that was pretty much necessary.
his own words, however, left her feeling uneasy. “is everything okay?” she ignored his question about how she was. it didn’t matter if it seemed like things weren’t really going fine on his end. despite often coming off as the type of girl who could care less about other people’s problems, sungkyung was actually very empathetic, and often cared a bit too much. it was sometimes what got her in trouble, if she were to be honest. “i mean, you don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to. i just … wanted to make sure you were alright,” she nodded her head, patting the side of his arm gently as she looked down to make sure kyungri was okay. it seemed that the little girl had given up on walking and was sitting down on the ground, occupying herself with something or another. sungkyung quickly eyed what was in her hands, but when it seemed okay, she turned her focus back to the male in front of her.
joohyuk hums with a smile as sungkyung kisses atop of her little sister’s head, how cute. it was now that he could see the strong BOND between the two, it was evident that they were indeed close. “she is definitely a tiny version of you.” he says, watching as she placed the little one down, who seemed game to explore despite her legs being unable to really carry her. joohyuk wondered what he’d be like as an actual big brother, with a little sister who was much smaller, much more fragile and kind, not like his step-sister, someone who actually needed someone to watch over her. word on the street is that he’d be somewhat alright, even despite his lack of experience around little kids and younger people. joohyuk nods, he stands there stiffly and for once, maybe joohyuk is able to lie. he’s keen for honesty, but joohyuk isn’t entirely sure that opening up about everything in front of sungkyung, and here, of ALL places is a good idea.
he’s not REALLY okay, and what’s going on in his life goes a little beyond school. he’s not entirely sure that he’s ready to open up about how shitty is step-mom is, and the plots he hears his step-sister yapping about on the phone at three in the morning. he laughs to himself, rubbing at his neck. “yeah— i think it’s just one of THOSE days.” he says, kicking at the loose gravel beneath his feet with his sneaker. he didn’t want her to worry about him, nor be concerned— but joohyuk didn’t really like his chances, as sungkyung is quick to share empathy. he nods, and she reaches out to him, which is a soft gesture, something he’s not experienced in a long while. “i think i’m OKAY.” joohyuk says, looking down at her. emphasis on the think. god, i wish my mom was still around. “i’m just at a DEAD END.” he suddenly blurts out, something which comes as a shock to him.
