Tuesday Networking 8/19/14

It has been a busy few weeks so we were unable to update and what a few weeks it has been. 

Jim Porter stood in for his first time a full time host of SDNC.  He did a great job hosting and challenging our members with his value statement.

We played a great networking game where each member placed a business card in an envelope then exchanged envelopes with other members of the group.  Each envelope had a fortune for the person and one lucky envelope contained the raffle prize.

William Wallace delivered an impassioned plea for our members to connect with their prospects through emotion.  He shared the technique for doing this: Empathy Maps.  Emotion rules everything.

Jim Porter drew inspiration from the mind of Dale Carnegie explaining some great points made in his famous book "How to Win Friends and Influence People."  The value statement was about how you create an eager want with your prospects.

Tuesday 7/22/14: Networking 101 with Yoichi Kato

Another great week!

We led off with introductions of names and businesses but added a unique twist.  It involved toilet paper squares (Can you spare a square?) and interesting personal details about each of our incredible members.

Yoichi Kato decided to enrich us all with his vast knowledge of networking (he is the Master Connector after all).  He gave a highly entertaining and informative speech that included some valuable and often ignored tips for networking success.  A quick review would never do it justice.

We have a great program being offered by event host William Wallace to help kids overcome their fears in Keynotes for Kids. 

We are also offering a course that will cover everything Linked In on Saturday August 30th at 10AM.  Location: The Coffee Corner in Linda Vista.

Tuesday 7/15/14: What to Say, What to Say with Robynne Alexander

Another great week!

We led off with introductions of names and businesses.  We had a fun free networking period.

Robynne stepped up with a great presentation on What to Say at a networking event.  By learning the acronym SESAMF.  Open Sesamf.  With this acronym you can build and develop meaningful relationships at any networking event.

Tuesday 7/8/14 Networking with Will

This week was a good one.

We started with introductions of names and businesses.  We had a networking game that built on the previous week where we had people search out their names on sticky notes.  We found that more people found their name when they had help versus when they did it themselves.  

This week's networking game was called Do You Know Me?  We handed out sticky notes with group members names on them and asked them to find out what other people know about that person.

Afterwards, we discussed Networking techniques.  Most notably how to follow up.  Most business is lost because people fail to send a follow up email within 24 hours.  You don't have to schedule a meeting but just a nice email recapping your conversation helps to build the relationship.

Our value statement was a high concept pitch.  Example: The movie Speed was Die Hard on a Bus!

I am hosting a weekly event called Keynotes for Kids.  It will teach kids leadership skills that are important for success.

Tuesday 6/24/14 - Personal Development - Health with Dr. Devin Young

This week was a little more low key as we hit the first week of summer.

We started with some quick introductions and a brief networking session before introducing our resident chiropractor Dr. Devin Young.  He spent his time illuminating us all on the inner workings of our bodies and what we need to do to run at an optimal level.  You can view his presentation below:

Afterwards we had people share what differentiates them from their competition.  We had some great answers and some passionate individuals who had just a little more passion then time allowed.  Overall everyone did a great job and we had a great meeting.

We have a great program in Keynotes for Kids, that will help children learn by doing the things that make a successful speaker.

We can't wait to see you all next week!

Meetup recap 09 April 2014

Another great installment of San Diego Networking and Coffee saw several new members show up and are increasing our base of regulars.

Today we started off introducing our names and businesses only, saving the value introductions for later.  We kicked off the formal portion with an interesting look at presentation design and how emotions make sales.  

Never vomit facts at your prospects.  Reach them emotionally by showing them what is and what their life could be with your product or service.  Get them to imagine a better world.  Their future can still be shaped, with your help.

Everyone proceeded to present their vision of what is and what could be for their clients.  Steve was very direct as usual and promoted his own business, a bit unusual.  He also promoted LegalShield as Yoichi Kato.  Crystal was to the point.  She can reduce stress and you can sleep better at night.  Christina conveyed the importance of jewelry for men (for their special someone) and women who want to party with their friends and get free jewelry.

Our weekly raffle saw Doug Timmerman and Rick Barclay as today's big winners.  The prizes were donated by Ron Furuyama, official sponsor of San Diego Networking and Coffee.

At the conclusion we promoted the one-on-one and bring a guest contest.  The winners decided May 6.  Christina released a book entitled The 50 Deaths of Annabel Joy.  

  Finally we concluded by urging everyone to remove the word "that" from your emails to reduce length.  It isn't really necessary.  Go ahead and try it.

Meetup recap from 03 April 2014

What a great week we had this week.  Another great showing and some good relationships being built.

We led off the meeting with a talk about how important it can be to prime your prospects to see the value of your business.

We then went into an exercise about answering objections in a value statement.  Dr. Devin Young got to the point stating that his goal was "to see you as little as possible."  Steve Alexander added that you should learn to address objections up front with prospects to eliminate it from the get go.

This week we will take a minute to address the What is vs. What Should Be communication style and the importance of body language and preparation.

We are also introducing a contest.  The most one-on-one meetings with group members and the most invited guests for the month of April have a chance at two great prizes.  One is a $700 Gift Certificate for 2 Nights Stay at the Palms at Puerto Salina, the second is an all day Jet Ski rental in Mission Bay ($350 value).  Information available at the link below:

Objections.

People naturally object. Even if you had the cheapest and most effective product available, people would object. You can turn that to your advantage by stating objections before they do. You know the objections you hear most often, so state the objections up front. The prospect will often object to the objections, overcome them right before your eyes, and buy from you. "Mr. Prospect, our software is the most expensive on the market. Do you want to look at cheaper alternatives first?" "Mr. Prospect, the machine is only $20,000, but this project is going to cost about $30,000 by the time it is done. Are you prepared to spend that much?" "Mr. Prospect, it'll take about 30 days to build this. Are you willing to wait that long?"
