Simply put, if something like this happened to you, would you tolerate criticism for the reason for wanting to remain isolated from the rest of the world? While this is indirectly related to Korea, this is an example of how brutal the Japanese were when they occupied Korea and China - oppressive in reshaping ideology, nation, language, and identity. Oppressive beyond our wildest imaginations, because it was reality. It was horror. And still to this day, North Korea and China have not accepted the apology of Japan. While much of Southeast Asia has focused on developing relations with other countries today, North Korea maintains their bitter hatred for the war crimes inflicted upon their country in the past, and bringing government reform to the Juche nation will not dissolve their steadfast xenophobia - for it is a deep part of their psyche, even in future generations of North Koreans.
