what scares me about fgo fandom is that there are a lot of people who love Gilgamesh for the exact same reasons why they hate Ozymandias. Like it's okay to hate Ozymandias, but there is something deeper going on if the reasons are all exact commonalities that he shares with Gilgamesh in their tyrannical behaviour.

same with Arjuna and Karna. It's not as prevalent nowadays but there used to be a thing where people hated Arjuna for the exact same reasons why they love Karna, but then it would be reshaped into 'Karna is so sweet aww' (like he wasnt laser beaming the fuck outta his enemies whenever he could) and 'Arjuna is pure evil' (despite being known as a prince who did many wonderful things for people as well) and then it doesn't help that canon FGO played upon these themes in that awkward way as well.

Skill issues #Plus like op said if you like Gilgamesh the whole tyrant and slaver thing can't be the dealbreaker re: Ozymandias #At least he has vaguely compelling reasons grounded in his historical activities and perception for his OP-ness #Whereas none of fate Gilgameshs much wankend skills have anything to do with his actual legend #Don't even get me started on how FGO chose to set his reign in the period associated with the historical Gilgamesh instead of the epic #“Oldest hero bc oldest legend” lmao the inventors of the pyramids god-King Djoser and deified Imhotep alone make that claim ridiculous #If you actively push BACK his reign by centuries #(Given the Gil vs Ozy aspect of the post the examples felt relevant)#Anyway sorry for the rant in general but NOT the shade on fate Gilgamesh in particular
