Recently finished a replay of Final Fantasy XIII, and yes it remains possibly my favourite in the series and one of my favourite games of all time. Simply timeless art direction and visual quality.

Thoughts on the Yakuza games I’ve played so far as a first time player of the series!

Yakuza 0: Very obvious why this is the fan favourite. Fantastic game and really great start to the series. I adored the story, characters, music and substories. Such a memorable experience. I could go on but yeah I think everyone agrees that this one is just phenomenal.

Yakuza Kiwami 1: Really solid game for sure. I haven’t played the OG version so I don’t know how it compares to Kiwami, but I really enjoyed this a lot. I think it benefits a lot from Yakuza 0 existing; I don’t really know how the Nishiki stuff would have felt without having played it. Loved the Majima Everywhere feature, it really never got old at all for me.

Yakuza Kiwami 2: Also really loved this game. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Kiryu and Sayama. Plus Goda was a great antagonist, the final hour or so with him was a real highlight. I also didn’t realise Majima would end up being such a reliable guy? My outsider view of the series was always that he was the antagonist for some reason, so I really enjoyed working with him and finding out that he’s much more of an anti-hero / chaotic but wholesome kind of guy.

Overall thoughts: Fantastic series so far! Really engaging with it and enjoying the world and characters so much. It’s a testament to the series that, although there’s so much going on and so many people to remember, it never feels boring or tedious! So that’s really great. I also love how it just feels so enthusiastic about itself? I think that’s such a great strength that keeps me wanting to play it all the way through.

So yeah, currently playing Yakuza 3 so I’ll do another one of these when I finish 3-6 maybe?
