#99 The Frozen Ground

Hoping for another brilliant performance like he gave in "The Wicker Man", I chose my next film to see good ol' Nic Cage do his thing.  I think what surprised me the most about this film was how subdued his performance actually was. Seeing him the role of detective and John Cusack in the role of killer was a casting departure that surprised me, but I think was successful since it did force Nic Cage to tone down...himself.

Inspired by the true events of an Alaskan serial killer, The Frozen Ground was a solid, if not predictable serial killer film. There were no real surprised in this movie, save for maybe seeing Cage turn in a performance not filled with grandeur and over the top expressions. 

The best part of the movie is probably the use of the setting, otherwise though nothing about it is "bad", the film itself was entirely forgettable.

#100 Urban Legends: Bloody Mary

Almost immediately, I realized one of the struggles I will have in my project is that I've seen a lot of horror films. A lot. I decided to just dive in with what was available on Netflix Instant and to throw aside any concerns for quality of story, acting or script. Enter my first movie on the countdown: Urban Legends: Bloody Mary.

Let's start off by disregarding any and all previous Urban Legends films, because this has absolutely nothing to do with them. Basic premise: a high school girl and her friends accidentally awaken the spirit of a girl killed on Prom Night years before. Trying to tie into the original films by having the deaths be inspired by old Urban Legends, Bloody Mary has more in common with "The Ring" then with the original series.

The best thing about this movie is Kate Mara's performance, but overall a weak script and the worst of it, the movie is just sort of dull.  

Not off to the strongest start!

100 before Halloween

Greetings! 

Back in May, I attended Crypticon Seattle. Fun times and screams were had all around, and I was inspired to embark on a project. This project was to watch 100 horror films I've never seen before Halloween. To date, I have watched 53 films, so there is still a way to go, but I wanted to start sharing my thoughts on the films I've watched. First up will be Urban Legends: Bloody Mary!
