tentative request for romance

a satin glove lined with broken glass, a snake’s mouth drained of venom.

alecto struggles with a sense of identity, from the life she’s practically shared down the middle to the seer’s chip that itches behind her ear. her work is an escape from the looming threat of her own depth of feeling, threatening to swallow her up at any moment.

deep, deep down in the mystery, in the incessant ticking of the time chamber, she finds respite from that. her sight is used for experiments, her body and mind pushed to the rawest limit to produce prophecy. perhaps it is drained of everything that she is finally able to sit still and to pass a thought through her buzzing head.

i’m looking for a time or prophecy researcher - someone who’s dedicated at least the last one or two years to pushing these prophecies out of her. someone to record quietly, to peer from behind glass and yet still get much too close.

i can’t really settle on a vibe, but i am imagining - dark.

the part of themselves they want to show the world: benjy seeks little more than to blend into the background - pleasantly. he’s grown into himself in the past several years, as his interest in rendering virtual worlds has grown, but there is still a reservation and a shyness to him.

the part of themselves that they want to hide from the world: a deep, deep well of nervousness. he is a mess of second guesses and apologetic smiles. he hides his shaking fingers behind his augmented ones.

their thoughts on blood purism: as a muggleborn, it’s not the vibe!

on magical supremacy overall: though he has not given it much conscious thought, he is not of the mind that magical people are inherently better. the people he admire most and consider the strongest are largely non magical, and he sometimes ponders on magic as a crutch.

on technomancy: after a run in that left him with life changing cursed injuries, technomancy saved - and changed - benjy’s life. it’s a double-edged sword. for all that he loves the inspiration and the innovation, there is a creeping sense of unease. and, of course, a fear of the collectors.

the part of themselves they want to show the world: there is not much that she wants to show to the world, but there is equally not much that she can hide. sharp tongued and bristling beneath the surface, her manipulations are rarely subtle. she wants to present a blank mask; she simply can’t.

the part of themselves that they want to hide from the world: the emotions that simmer under her skin, constantly threatening to vent themselves. the buzzing energy that lives in her chest, that has her breathing in sighs and tuts. the part of her, so small and so muffled, that fears prophesy as much as it craves it.

their thoughts on blood purism: support that strikes up like a reflex. it’s not even a question in her mind.

on magical supremacy overall: much stronger, and much more easy to verbalise. there is some level of disgust for nonmagical people, some kind of pity that coils into nausea.

on technomancy: perhaps she’d be more interested and more open, were it not for the mandatory chip buzzing behind her ear, recording the sight channelled through her.

The part of themselves that they want to hide from the world: the hypocritical side, that is too proud to admit so many things. the part of her that is forever chasing an impulse, snapping or making unilateral decisions. the part of her that “sees good”, or rather the part that wants to apologise for things in other people she can’t even stomach thinking about in the abstract.

Their views on blood politics/purism: not a big fan

Their views on magical supremacy overall: probably not as savoury as they could be. she does have a baked in belief that she is “special” probably, because she is different from her family. she definitely has (subconsciously) grown into the idea that non magical people need to be protected and kind of patronised. it’s not conscious and certainly not intentional.

Their views on technomancy: gung ho. she is a programmer that leapt immediately into augmentation and the use of conduits. she’s part of a collective.
